@@DogeUSA that’s because it makes no sense for those characters to be a different race. pocahontas and mulan were real people and both bave much to do with their culture and heritage so to make them white would just be disrespectful. black panther is literally set in africa and has much to do with the culture of wakandans and their race. moana is literally a native islander and obviously native islanders arent white. and tiana is the only black princess, so to make her white would basically just erase all the progress with diversity that disney has made. the reason it doesn’t matter for Ariel to be black is because Atlantans have no set race and aren’t only white people so therefore ariels race does not matter

Was my favorite movie growing up and finally seeing more people of color being cast for their talent vs being cast by their skin, especially for Disney’s 3rd Princess, is definitely emotional. Especially Halle singing her out, you know it’s her dream too! But the song “Part of Your World” is about being in a dark place, feeling lonely, and wanting to be accepted by a society, that from young age, was being told that particular society would never accept them. The Little Mermaid is literally a love story about 2 people of different races falling love despite of what their society and culture may think. IDK how people never understood how deep “The Little Mermaid” actually was. In a short period of time that love changed peoples perception.

This teaser trailer dropped at 3 AM my time here in Norway last night and I was about to fall asleep when I saw the notification from the official Disney channel on KZbin and I INSTANTLY had tears and goosebumps and needless to say, I wasn't able to fall asleep for at least another hour because I was so moved by this teaser trailer and so excited for everything to come with this movie! No worries, It's all a battle of either "Preserving how things were." v.s. "Seeing what can be." There's a nuance to this dance we are all participating in. Not that many choose to see the neutral path where everyone wins. At this time, plans are being made by certain fans to change this character to it's respective 1989 version once they get a hold of the video files next year. For the sake of honoring, respecting, and preserving the authenticity of what the character looked like as it transitions to live-action. Meanwhile Disney is doing what it can to be more inclusive with The Little Mermaid film. There reaching new audiences in it's non-white consumers. It's a win-win for everyone. Just give it time for the "Preserved" version, but if you don't want to wait, by all means watch the Modern Disney version. At the end of the day, I encourage everyone to see, and support both versions. That way, you can see for yourself what version captivated you the most.

Yeah, that's what worried me slightly, I was disappointed with The Lion King too. The Little Mermaid was my favourite movie as a kid, I was 4 when it came out and I was OBSESSED with it. This trailer has put my mind at rest a little bit, Halle has such an amazing voice and the underwater scenes look amazing.
