_Beauty and the Beast_ is NOT about Stockholm Syndrome. While Belle is originally a captive, she runs away the moment things get rough, and chooses to stay when Beast saves her life. During the captive part of the story she is even given agency to go anywhere in the castle except his private quarters. Gaston is trying to control Belle while Beast slowly learns genuine connection. At best it should be argued that Beast has Lima Syndrome, which is defined as: a psychological response where a captor or abuser forms a positive connection with a victim. And even that may be seen as pushing it considering how quickly he lets her out of the tower dungeon and starts trying to form that connection. Sorry, I think _Beauty and the Beast_ being said to be about Stockholm Syndrome may be a bit of a triggering topic for me. Didn't intened to rant.

So idk if anyone has already commented this, but the lantern that rapunzel lifts back up before it reaches the water was her parents. It’s the only one with the royal crest on it. One of my favorite details in the movie is when Gothel falls through the window Rapunzel still reaches out for her. Because she did genuinely love her for 18 years of her life, Gothel was her whole world as horrible as she was. So she still reaches out, despite now realizing how evil she was. I’m so glad they added that shot. Also, the short scene of the parents right before they release the laterns is one of the most heartbreaking scenes in Disney despite neither of them saying a word.

Mother Gothel could have made life so much easier by applying to be Rapunzel’s Nanny/Governess. Could brush her hair any time she wanted it without living like a fugitive. But, her panicked impulse (and evil brain) won out.

@@Fernsketch Exactly. After the hair died in her hand, I think she just panicked and grabbed her, which in a way is surprising considering how manipulative she is. I feel like she easily could have calculated her way into a job close to the Princess if she hadn’t panicked in that moment.

I never understood why Gothel kept Rapunzel's same birthday, not very bright on her part
@carmen_says_hi3 күн бұрын
My head cannon is that one day, Rapunzel asked her when her birthday was and Gothel absentmindedly told her while she was focused on something else.
@marneebragg98393 күн бұрын
My head canon is that it is another layer of abuse. Kind of like when people keep trophies after the hurt someone, she "keeps" the birthday to twist the knife more. She also gets to "keep something away from" Rapunzel by letting her see the lanterns but denying her access to them.
@shadamyandsonamylover2 күн бұрын
@@carmen_says_hiI think this is the most likely answer. Considering Gothel doesnt want to celebrate Repunzle’s bday saying “no no your bday was last year” definitely feels like she was not intentionally letting her know. And with how prideful Gothel is, she probably didn’t want to “correct” herself to her daughter so she never said “oh whoops my mistake”.

There seems to be an underlying theme of healing the family hurts / generational trauma in the last few years, especially with Coco and Encanto
@meghangerhart6433 күн бұрын
Frozen 2 and Moana are very much about that as well. Unhealthy family dynamics and generational trauma need to be explored in honest, open ways, especially to kids who may be going through those same things and not understanding what’s happening. They can feel seen, validated, and given hope, as well as planting the seed to try to break/heal that cycle of abuse/trauma.

If you can find it, you should totally watch the short that disney made about their wedding! It helps tie it all together in a cute little bow and also helps continue the story. Tangeled is my favorite disney princess movie! Rapunzel and Mother Gothel’s relationship is very similar to mine and my mother’s. Thankfully, I no longer have any contact with her. My boyfriend is my Flynn Ryder/Eugene. He’s a dorky, awkward mess, but he would for sure take a stab wound for me. He even told me that if I ever run into my mother again, he’d come as fast as he could to help me get away from her because he knows that I almost fainted when I saw her in public almost 2 years ago and he knows how she is. We’ve known each other for 12+ years and we’ve been together for almost 5 months. Similar to Flynn, he was attracted to me when we first met in 2nd grade. I was his first crush, and that crush lingered all those years until I finally realized that I felt the same way almost that whole time. My story is so similar to Tangeled, it’s crazy. I think that’s why I love this movie so much - but also because it’s just so good!! I also had really long hair that went past my bum until I cut it when I was little, so it really does match up well😂

Since you loved the movie so much, I would highly recommend that you check out the show. It is an incredible continuation of the movie taking place between Rapunzel's return to the kingdom and her and Eugene's wedding. The entire movie cast returned to work on the show, along with many Broadway legends voicing some of the new characters (including Eden Espenoza and Jeremy Jordan). The music in the show is also incredible. Alan Menkin and Glenn Slater (the songwriters in the movie) came back to make all of the new songs for the show, and I would actually argue that the show's songs rival, if not surpass, the songs from the movie. Also, you already hate Gothel now, but the show makes you hate her even more.
