FIRST TIME REACTING To 🇨🇳 “WayV - Phantom” | UK 🇬🇧 REACTION

I almost cried when I saw this reaction - I am so very pleased you finally got around to WayV!!!! They are my favorite subunit of NCT, which, along with Stray Kids, is my favorite Kpop group (even though technically the WayV subunit is C-Pop). WayV is the subunit that focuses on the Chinese market, although they perform not only in Chinese, but also in English and Korean. All of the WayV members are at least part Chinese and the group is named WayV to suit the rules/tastes of China. Like all of the NCT subunits, they usually have more rappers than vocalists in their group :Yang Yang (blonde), Hendery (short black hair), WinWin (young face deep voice), Lucas (on hiatus since last year), plus Ten (body roll bare midriff) who is mainly a vocalist in WayV, but also raps in some other NCT U stuff. The two other vocalists are Xiaojun (grey hair) and Kun (red hair). You will very likely enjoy a LOT of WayV's songs as they are mostly hard hitting, rap/hip hop and/or R&B tracks. Their dancing is incredibly precise and strong, especially with Ten and WinWin both being extremely good dancers. I suggest "Turn Back Time" or "Moonwalk" next from them. I hope you will continue to explore more WayV as well as more of NCT in general. Phantom is the title track from their latest mini album, "Phantom" which just dropped today, They also made a track video for the song "Diamonds Only" (a shortened version of the full song but with a full scale MV) and should be dropping another video or two next week as well according to their schedule. SM Entertainment is their label and SMtown indicates all of their music artists (including Aespa, Red Velvet, EXO, NCT (NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, & WayV), TVXQ (the host of the Kingdom show Max Changmin is in TVXQ), Super Junior, Super M, Girls Generation, as well as many solo acts.)

I forgot completely to mention the Phantom reference bit - I agree that the video is nodding to Phantom of the Opera -not just the mention of Phantom and the mask, but there is a scene in Phantom of the Opera where they ride in a similar looking boat surrounded by candles, like they do in this video. Even more so, when they are singing in a descending scale, that reminds me of the famous opening descending organ scale from Phantom of the Opera - the bit everyone recognizes "Da Da Da Da Daaaahhhhhh" (not the same notes but a similar feel).

I didn't think you'd ever react to WayV! Ahhh they've been gone for so long I was starting to loose hope but I'm so glad they're back! They were the first mando-pop artists I ever listened to (2/3 years ago) and their songs were one of the things that kept me motivated studying Mandarin. I remember writing their lyrics at the margins of my notebook instead of paying attention in class lol Also, in case you're curious about the members: - Red hair: Kun. He's the leader of WayV and main vocalist - Deep voice: WinWin. He does look 3, but he's 25 (26 in Korean age). Lead dancer and lead rapper - Crop-top: Ten. Main dancer and vocalist, also center. Fun fact: he's Thai but for some reason he's the one I understand the most when he speaks chinese lol You should see him dance, he's mesmerizing.. I personally love the choreography he did with WinWin on "lovely" - Blond hair: YangYang. Main rapper, dancer and maknae. He lived in Germany for a while so he knows german - Grey hair: XiaoJun. Main vocalist, but you probably noticed ahahah - Black hair: Hendery. Main rapper, dancer, visual. He's afraid of frogs. Is it relevant? No but OK There is actually a seventh member, Lucas (rapper, center, visual), but he's currently in hiatus They don't really have "rap songs" in their discography, at least not like 3racha does, but they still include some sections in their music. My fav songs of theirs are "Moonwalk", "Love talk" (the Chinese version), "turn back time", "regular", "bad alive" and "action figure" I haven't listened to their new album yet apart of this song, so maybe I'll add something when I do

Because WayV -- which stands for We Are Your Vision in English -- or Weishen V in Chinese -- which means "gods of vision" -- is a sub-unit of NCT, NCT's whole dream concept is also part of WayV's storyline and concept. (Hence, why in the lyrics of "Phantom" they say "only I can see the truth," and they talk about having the vision, etc.) As with everything NCT does, it all has to do with dreams, dreaming or something to do with being in a dream state. Some fans who are into SM group theories have also speculated that NCT's storyline also connects to EXO's and SuperM's storylines. Although WayV's "Phantom" MV is loosely based on the concept of the Phantom of the Opera, a phantom is just another name for a ghost or apparition, so I really think the song is about a phantom in general, not specifically the phantom that haunts the opera house. I think the song is more about the image of someone or something that haunts your thoughts or memories, etc. that seems to be affecting or controlling all aspects of your life, manipulating you like a puppet on a string. Currently, there are 7 members in WayV: Ten and Lucas debuted first as members of NCT-U and they are also members of SuperM; Winwin first debuted as a member of NCT-127 and NCT-U, and Kun -- the leader of WayV -- originally debuted as part of NCT-2018; and Yanyang, Xiaojun and Hendrey debuted specifically as members of WayV at the beginning of 2019 when WayV was formed. > Kun -- the one with the red hair -- is the oldest who is almost 27. He is a lead vocalist. > Ten -- the guy with the mullet hairstyle -- is 26 and he is Thai, but his grandparents are Chinese and he attended an international school in Thailand where they spoke English most of the time, so he is fluent in English. (He is the NCT member who is fluent in the most languages -- on top of being fluent in Thai, English, Korean and Mandarin, he is also learning Japanese); he is a main dancer, lead vocalist and a center of WayV. He is also the NCT member with the most solo songs. > WinWin -- the one you thought was really young -- is 25 years old and he is a lead vocalist, lead dancer and sub-rapper. (He is trained in traditional Chinese dance and attended one of the most prestigious dance academies in China. He was also admitted to a very important dance program at University -- similar to the Chinese equivalent of Julliard.) > Xiaojun -- the guy with the gray hair -- is 23 and he is the main vocalist and the one with the high notes most of the time. > Hendrey -- the one with the crazy eyes -- is 23 and he is from Macau China, so he also speaks Cantonese; he is a lead vocalist and lead rapper. > Yangyang -- the blond -- is the youngest at 22 years old. He is Taiwanese, but he lived in Germany for a while and attended an international school, so he is also fluent in English and proficient in German; he is the main rapper. > *Not in the MV. Lucas is Chinese-Thai from Hong Kong, so his native language is Cantonese and he is almost 24; he is a lead rapper, vocalist and the visual of WayV. (However, due to a dating scandal and other controversies, Lucas has been on hiatus for more than a year now, with no indication as to if or when he will be able to return to NCT.) The only reason why WayV doesn't have NCT in their name like the other 3 NCT sub-units is because, at the time of their debut, there was a lot of political issues between Korea and China, and because of that Korean companies were not able to work in China. NCT's Chinese sub-unit has been going to debut for years, but with all the political issues it took SM Entertainment a long time to find a way to work around all the rules the Chinese government put in place to prevent its native Chinese citizens from working with anyone associated with Korea and preventing anyone who was working with a Korean company from working in China. So in order to circumvent some of China's restrictions, SM found/created a Chinese company that was willing to take on NCT's Chinese sub-unit, but also allow SM to have a say in the group's concept and promotion activities. Part of how they get around the rules is they gave the group a name that distances them from their Korean roots. (That is also why WayV's Chinese fans are called WayZenNi instead of NCTzens and why WayV has their own lightstick design that is different than NCT's, etc.) The company WayV is under is called Label V which is part of SM, but separate from the Korean branch of the company and it produces songs in Mandarin to keep the Chinese government happy. All the members of WayV also speak Mandarin and have some connection to Chinese heritage, but most of the members are not native mainland Chinese citizens, so this gives them some immunity from the Chinese government. But they are representing China and they are promoting Chinese culture, so the Chinese government kind of turned a blind eye to the fact that they are technically still under a Korean company, as long as they hid any connection to their Korean company while doing promotions in China. As you can see, not only do the WayV members speak, Mandarin, Korean and English, but they are a very international group that speaks many languages. So, pretty much all of WayV's songs are in Mandarin with a few English lyrics and words mixed in. (Except when it's an English version, such as "Bad Alive" or their all English version of "Love Talk," or their English song "Miracle", or if you happen to pick the Korean version of some of their songs.) LOL Because WayV is the Chinese unit, but they are releasing music in Korea and promoting in Korea, not specifically in China, SM is more likely to produce their songs in English. Hence, why several of WayV's previous songs are English songs, because -- due to the pandemic, political issues, Lucas being on hiatus, etc. -- they aren't promoting as a group in China right now. I think it helps SM avoid any crossover issues with Korea that might make it more difficult for them to promote in China in the future. You should now check out one of WayV's live performances of "Phantom" because the song and choreography is even better when you see and hear it live. SM Entertainment is known as the vocal powerhouse of the Kpop industry, which also happens to have some of the best dancers. And the company is known for the fact that when their artists perform live, they are even better than any of their studio recordings. So everyone always looks forward to their live performances. I think you will be even more impressed when you see it live.

WinWin is not a lead vocalist, but lead dancer plus sub rapper and sub vocalist (and also an actor). He notoriously gets the fewest lines in many older songs but he always stands out regardless and is well liked by not only the fans but also all of the NCT members (lots of funny videos highlighting this lol). He is a trained dancer and it really shows. So nice to see WinWin back performing with WayV again after his acting schedule/Covid restrictions kept him in China for so long. I love that he has a lot more lines on this album :)

@@Heathmah WinWin certainly isn't a main vocalist, and he may not get a lot of lines in songs, but when he sings, which he does sing, I think his contribution to the song is as a lead vocalist. Whether he is a lead singer or a sub-singer is a matter of opinion. I think he has earned and deserves the title of lead singer. At least that's my opinion.

If there's one thing about NCT/Wayv, it's that their instrumentals and choreo NEVER dissappoint. They are always one of a kind and probably one of the only groups in kpop that still work with old school r&b, hip hop, trap, rap and edm. It's such a pleasure to embark on a musical journey with them, they helped me enhance my taste in music so much. They are all also one of the best dancers and that guy in the crop top you talked about? that's TEN LEE. He is considered to be the best dancer in the whole of NCT (mind you that NCT has 23 members and all are exceptional dancers so being called the best amongst all of them is an achievement in it's own)

This song was supposed to be out in like 2021, they already finished the album in March 2021, and it was supposed be a full length album, but the company changed it to a mini album, they never get the treatment and promotion they deserved, but still they slay every time

Wow I never thought you would check out WayV! They were my first Ult group! (SKZ has taken that crown now). WayV is a 7 member group, one member (Lucas) is on hiatus right now. WayV is the Chinese unit of NCT. They are incredible! Their B sides are some of the best B sides that exist. Especially on this new album in particular! WayV is definitely highlyyyyyyyy under rated! And they deserve so much more recognition! They do sing primarily in Chinese however they have some English songs to! Also Ten who is in this group, is one of the best dancers in Kpop. Period. The main rappers in the group are Yangyang (the one you wanted more of), Hendery, Winwin (the deep voice), and Lucas (who is on hiatus right now). Main vocals are Xiaojun, Ten, and Kun (Leader) You should check out Turn back time, Moon walk, Take off, Action Figure, Love talk (it's a hoe anthem lol)

Members: Kun = Red hair Kun is the Leader of WayV, Speaks Mandarin(Chinese), Korean, and some English. He has a Bachelor's degree from Beijing Contemporary Music Institute. Ten = crop top guy. He is our Thai king. He speaks Thai, English, Korean, Mandarin(Chinese), and some Japanese. Known for his dancing. Xiaojun= Dark Silver hair Speaks Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, and English. He is known for his Vocals, and Dancing. Specifically his Epic high notes. WINWIN = Chestnut Brown hair/ the one you pointed out looking young but has a crazy deep voice. He speaks Mandarin, Korean and some English. Hendery = short Black hair. He speaks Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, and English. Known for His Prince like Visuals. YANGYANG = Bleach Blonde hair He speaks Mandarin, Korean, German, English, and some Spanish. He is the Maknae( the youngest) and he is a rapper. He and grew up in Germany, but he is Taiwanese. This is some basic information I hope if you like them enough to watch a fan made guide to know more about them. Songs I recommend are Turn back time, MoonWalk, Love Talk(All English track), Miracle(All English track) Also the Rainbow V project videos they split up into subunits to dance or sing they are all good but Ten and Winwin's dance is incredible. OMG YESS we are back to THE NCT ARC?? Teddy you NEED to check out more of Neo Culture Technology! They are definitely your cup of tea. Here I am showing up late with a response but I'm thrilled you did get to some WayV. They are definitely severely underappreciated. Turn Back Time is definitely one I think you'd like a lot. I also really love Bad Alive and Moonwalk (though the latter is definitely a softer song of theirs but I always just really liked the raps in it). The guy in the crop top is Ten, and is probably one of the best male dancers in the industry. He's got quite a few solo songs and they're mostly quite poppy but all quite fantastic. He did a duo song called "Low Low" with Yangyang, one of the rappers of WayV and it's like polar opposite vibes from this but such an ear worm and I can't even guess how many times I have listened to it. He's also in SuperM along with SM's two other legendary dancers, Kai from EXO and Taemin from SHINee. It's honestly kind of amazing getting to see them all preform together.

I really like NCT and all their subunits. WayV may not have the NCT in the name but you can still feel their vibes. Its also cool that they sing in Chinese. WayV has some dope songs, but so does NCT as a whole. I am just thinking which songs would suit your taste though. The label is called SM Entertainment but they have a thing called SM Town, from my understanding it is a name when all groups and artists come together and have concerts together. I guess it is similar to what JYP has... there its called JYP Nation.
