Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another first time reaction made possible via a PATREON poll with Camouflage and their song " The Great Commandment." Giving me all of those Depeche Mode vibes, this song stands out on its own. Great lead vocalist and insane synths, see why I love the 80s so much!

I was heavily in to Depeche Mode during the late 80's and loved this song when it was re-released in 1987. To me, it was a new song, the video introduced me to it. Camouflage captured the Depeche sound and musical greatness while managing to predict the future, at least in this song. When he says "Realize the man who says anything", I think he's talking about a certain person future politic. I think I know, but it's a devisive subject. Music should bring us together.

I never thought of it like that, but yeah . . . he looks very much like Matt Damon. The song predicted the future, they're talking about the distopian future the world is falling into. It's prophecy, we're in end times. Neverthess, I like Matt's work . . . great actor and singer!

Another good synth pop group in the realm of Depeche Mode and Camouflage is Red Flag, a duo consisting of two brothers originally from Liverpool England. They came to the U. S. in the late 70s due to their father's job and starting learning to play and experiment with synthesizers in their parents' home. They started the band Red Flag in 1984 in San Diego, releasing their debut album, Naive Art, in 1989.

I knew the song as an import on Live 105 for several months prior. Had the 12”. Voices and Images was a great album. Methods of Silence even better. My favorite is “Bodega Bohemia”. Camouflage have released some solid work in the 21st century too: the singles 'Me And You' and 'Shine' two examples. But if you like the German Depeche Mode in Camouflage, please may I then recommend another 1980's Depeche-esque team: Red Flag. 'If I Ever' remains one of my favourite 1980's singles, along with 'Everything Counts LIVE', 'The Sun Always Shines On T.V.', 'It's A Sin' and 'True Faith'. (BTW: You and your many classy fans have something very good on this channel. Keep it up!)

If you looking for real insider tip you should listen to "You" by Boytronic. It`s a Song from 1983. A great Synth Classic from another German Band. With 141 BPM it was unusual fast for a "Discotrack" back in these days. Unfortunately it`s hard to find a useful official Video Clip. I think the Sound will move you.

More recommendations for Camouflage are Love Is A Shield, Stranger Thoughts and Neighbours. And another fun song from that era in that style which was number 1 here in Germany is "Das Omen" by Mysterious Arts. But please don't put Camouflage into the same pot with Sandra, Modern Talking or C.C.Catch. They are far better than them. People mentioned it already: when you talk about German synthpop you will always have to talk about Alphaville and Propaganda. Boytronic is another 80s synthpop band from Germany (Try 'You', that was another great single). And of course the masters and the godfathers of them all which are Kraftwerk. And when you're interested in German synthpop that came after the 80s (and often still had a retro touch to it) then look no further than to bands like De/Vision, Wolfsheim, And One or Second Decay. And there are more.

Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on Camouflage. I didn't really know this song "The Great Commandment" from 1988 (recorded in 1987) by this German group. It's their debut single taken from their first album "Voices & Images" released in September 1987 in Germany and other countries, but ranked in June 1988 in France. I think in France, the single went a little "unnoticed", rising to 45th place, only remaining 6 weeks. It must be said that in my country, at the time, there were a lot of huge French, English, American hits and some German hits like those of Sandra or Modern Talking were certainly the ones that were the most highlighted because they have a lot had success in France especially SANDRA who was very popular with us.She was very appreciated! Maybe for her French roots!🙂😁Her HITS were often in the TOP 10! I must have seen the clip when I was a child, but it must have been very little broadcast on the TV channels because I have a vague memory of it, just like the song I think is also not very present on the radio. In any case, thank you to our German neighbors for making us (re) discover this very good track because I really enjoyed the music! It's very catchy and fascinating when we listen to it. When you say that the song is "too short" for you, it's normal the clip version is the 7 "Remix version because the album version is 4'20. You can find it on Spotify. Not he 7" Remix! There is also according to the information an Extended version (12 ") but also a lot of Remixes on UK and US media such as Extended Dance Mix, Extended Radio Mix, Dub Mix, etc .. which are on KZbin than on platforms where there are very few REMIXES. I also recommend you a German group like ALPHAVILLE which had a very big success in France, Germany and Europe with their huge hits from 1984-1985 like Big In Japan (the most famous!), Sounds Like A Melody, Forever Young which is a "ballad ", 3 of their biggest hits and surely many more. You who wanted to discover other groups / singers and who love the 80's and Synthpop wave like me, I recommend them! 😉 More SANDRA too for your next reacts please! 🙏 Thanks for your great job our American buddy. 👍🇫🇷
