Every time when I listen to that song I've got tears in my eyes. I am sorry Derek that you do not understand Polish but the lyrics are timeless and still ... actual. Czesław Niemen is one of the greatest ICONS of Polish Music. Please, believe me, if not the Iron Curtain, the charts would've looked totally different worldwide. I am pretty sure that Czesław Niemen would be many many many times on the top of them. Thank you for your reaction.

From what my father told me, the first recording of this song was at a live music festival, and the mic was constantly peaking there because literally no one expected him to sing like that (the audio engineers included) At that time, he was just a random dude that barely anyone knew, so when he just bolted with such a powerful and amazing voice, everyone was stunned, to the point that the audio team didn't even react for the full performance to change the settings.

In answering your question - yes, he played multiple instruments. He was also a composer, producer, poet as well as a talented painter and sculptor. Dabbled with carpentry at home. Great personality and a genius. I not only had been to many of his concerts in Poland but was lucky enough to meet him in person backstage on a few occasions and shook his hand. Exceptional person indeed. He was very humble. Glory to Czeslaw Niemen! RIP.

Lyrics: Oh, strange is this world Well, still it seems There's so far so much evil And strange it is that since long ago Man despises man. Oh, strange this world Of human affairs Sometimes I'm ashamed to be in it Oh, so oftena man can kill With a bad word or still a knife. But most people are of good will I - thanks to them - believe That this world should never, never die And now, the time has come The final time for hatred, for hatred To destroy itself.

You probably translated it, found the text, However, you must remember one thing if you are interested in music, it was our greatest voice of POLAND, there will never be another like him, his voice and song lyrics were the greatest and touched our hearts. No one could compare with him, even at that time, no Russian or anyone from any other country, even to this day, none of the modern singers has or will have such a voice, pure and wonderful, if you really know how to sing and not scream like some singers do nowadays.

Poles have artistic souls ❤️🇵🇱 It is worth listening to the lyrics of non-mainstream songs of Polish Underground music. Maybe we seem cold to Westerners. sad. closed. backward and, unfortunately, in your imagination we are only poor, drunks, thieves and racists. But to get to know who we really are, we need to get to know our culture and history through art in which we open our hearts, such as the beautiful music we call sung poetry. Greetings from the beautiful city of Wrocław 🇵🇱❤️

Adding my translation (sadly not poetic enough): Strange is this world, still full of so much evil. And strange is that for so many years one human despises another. Strange is this world the world of human affairs; Sometimes just shameful to admit. Still how often is that somebody with a bad word kills as if with a knife. But there are more good people and I strongly believe that this world will never die thanks to them. No! No! No! It's about time, the high time, to destroy hatred in ourselves. This song immediately makes me think of Zegarmistrz światła (Watchmaker of light) in the classic but not in the "we're all drunkingly singing after a country wedding" way category lol It's probably because of the philosophical tone. I'd recommend it (but not the official English translation which I personally find abysmal.)

YOU CAN READ IT BELOW (THE MUSIC, THE LYRICS AND PERFORMANCE IN ONE PERSON - CZESLAW NIEMEN): This is a strange world Where still So much evil exists. And this is also strange That for so many years, A man despises another man. This t is a strange world - The world of human affairs. Sometimes admitting this is shameful staff. And yet it often happens That someone with a bad word Kills as with a knife. But there are more people of good will, And I strongly believe in it That this world Will never perish thanks to them. No! You are too young to know the political context of Poland at the time this song was made, you can't understand, even with the translation. The words have a hidden meaning. You don't know if he played the piano? He played almost all the instruments: piano, wind instruments, guitar, etc. He changed his name because his name in Polish means "the howler".
