David was extremely sick during this taping and didn't want to perform because he felt he would not do the song justice as HE does not personally use autotune. He did the performance and killed it! Producers of the show threw in some autotune and David became enraged. You should check out more Disturbed videos they are quite versatile and David is a true talent!

„The Sound of Silence“, written in 1963/1964 by Paul Simon and first sang by Simon & Garfunkel welcomed its first endorsed cover by Disturbed (David Draiman) 50 years after its debut. Now, 57 years later and still only, maybe, 1% of those who know the song really understand it. 57 years later and there are still no better words to describe the decay of society and humanity. If you're one of those who do not understand it, find someone to translate it for you because you're missing out on something special.

There is no way you can call me a heavy metal band enthusiast. I've heard some Christian heavy metal music because my son was into it but that's about it. I have no idea how I stumbled onto this song the first time. All I know is my jaw dropped and I couldn't stop listening to it. I played it over and over and over. This version is so spine-tingling so demanding of your attention. I think you need to hear the original version by Simon & Garfunkel, a real classic rock song, to really be fully impressed by and appreciative of this version. The man is fantastic. I haven't heard any of his previous works and I'll probably never hear any of his future works but this song strikes a chord and I can't explain why. I recently heard another reactor say that his voice his rendition of this song demands that you listen to his message and take heed of the message (paraphrased). I think that is so On Target. I think your reaction really sums it up when you just sat there and stared at him and listened.

The original is from Simon and Garfunkel from 1964. It has a very different vibe. In fact it has been remarked, that given the lyrics, the original was kind of a lighthearted warning to mankind and Disturbed has turned that into anger for not listening to it. Btw if you like a deep voice, i recommend Tim Faust, especially the song Misty Mountains.

More facts about the singer : he is the grandson of a renowned cantor, a singer of Jewish religious music. David was trained in this singing tradition from childhood but ultimately chose a different path. He heads a heavy metal band, Disturbed, and yes, he has piercings. I suspect but do not know that the band’s name may refer to the line from this song - “No one dared disturb the sound of silence.” Certainly it must have resonated for them. Be sure to watch the music video version of his powerful take on this song too. The lyrics are actually powerful, heartfelt poetry, something I never realized until I heard him sing them. Paul Simon approves of what he did with his original song, and no wonder. David brought it alive and clearly feels and projects the desperate passion of its message. David had a serious flulike illness during the Conan performance but sang anyway. He hates autotune and had insisted it not be used. When he discovered it had been used for this performance, he was furious. He has a fine, well-trained voice and insists on singing naturally.

You should check out more Disturbed! One of my all-time favorite bands! Even better live, I still remember every second of the show... "Down with the System" is one everyone likes, but also "Stricken", "Into the Fire", "Vengeful One", "The Light", "A Reason to Fight"... Those should get you started.

You should check out pentatonix's cover of sound of silence also hallelujah there also a capella THERE ARE GOOD.just like Home Free . Pentatonix was on a show sing off they won season 3 Home free won season 4 there both very good but you should react to hallelujah first. Because Aviv Kaplan was still with Pentatonix he sang with Home Free on ring of fire he was the that put on the cowboy hat at the end

The falsetto that he brings to the song, and the chilling instrumental, I like all versions of this song, but this live on Conan is my favorite. Raw, almost primal.

He also had the flu. He was literally laid out backstage, feeling like he was gonna pass out, while waiting to go on stage. Which is why he chose to sit on a stool to perform the song.

"Drum things?" Comments on his physical appearance? Guzzling from a water bottle? Inconsequential comments? This spectacular performance deserved better; the meaning behind the song deserved better.

5:36 They are called Timpani's! One of my favorite percussion instruments to play. Very easy too. Doesn't take much skill to learn! If you watched the music video though the Timpani player was using a leather based top and used plain wooden stick on them. On here they were like Mylar based tops (like the material actual drums use) and used cotton rolled sticks!

This is a cover of the original version by a folk music duo Simon and Garfunkel, recorded in 1965. Paul Simon wrote this song about a dream he had, that he believed was a warning about the way technology would ruin communication between people. That we would create Neon Gods and worship them. He saw this danger very early, and Disturbed believe he was right. Therefore, this cover is meant to express anger that Paul Simons warning was ignored.

The original is by Simon & Garfunkel. It was written during a time of protest against the patriarchy that was deciding everything in our country (and still is). This song resonates deeply in the herstory of the US. Also, this is the absolute best version of this song!! 100% His voice is magical.

I am not a fan of cover versions but this one blows me away... I am born in 1962 and of course I know the original. I like it but honestly I am a metal head... I was driving listening to the radio and this song was played... It blows me away. I don't listen to the lyrics cause this voice nailed me on my seat... Such a power and half angelic and half evil... IT IS PERFECT !!! 🤘💝🌹💝🤘 Thank you guys so much for covering this song. It will be one of my all time favourites ❣️❣️❣️

For context of why their version of this song so blew a lot of people away is that its such a divergence from their typical sound. They're typically much harder...I humbly suggest 'down with the sickness ' with a humorous glint in my eye.
