I was in the audience for this performance. As soon as he started singing, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, in the room sat up and stared without moving for the remainder. It was honestly a life-changing experience. Most of these videos cut off the applause at the end, but it was deafening and sustained for at least 5 minutes.

Hey, I’m 43 and like all kinds of music and obviously love this version of Sounds of Silence...but what you boys do here is more powerful than you think. It teaches younger people who might not be receptive toward different music genres to be more open minded. It also shows older folk who think the younger generations don’t appreciate “good music” that, Yeah, actually they do. Keep up the good work fellas.

You nailed it. I absolutely agree. The twins have actually made me appreciate the songs they review even more bc of their own passion and respect for the art no matter what the genre. Whenever I am feeling frustrated or even somewhat disgruntled after a hard news day, I tune into their channel and recharge my positive feelings. They always remind me there is hope we can all still find common ground within American culture and art despite our complicated and painful history. What’s so cool is they are Millennials listening to and appreciating a Boomer generation song performed by a GenXer. The Sound of Silence has definitely survived the test of time! I love this song and love these guys! ❤

According to Paul Simon, he wrote it when he was 21. Before Kennedy was assassinated. His words regarding the song - “The key to "The Sound of Silence" is the simplicity of the melody and the words, which are [based on] youthful alienation. It's a young lyric, but not bad for a 21-year-old. It's not a sophisticated thought, but a thought that I gathered from some college reading material. It wasn't something that I was experiencing at some deep, profound level - nobody's listening to me, nobody's listening to anyone - it was a post-adolescent angst, but it had some level of truth to it, and it resonated with millions of people. Largely because it had a simple and singable melody, ‘

The original version was a warning against the rise of technology (Television / now 'social media') - causing less and less 'human' interaction (think about how people brag they have 6,000 'friends' on Facebook, or how people will 'text' someone whom is literately sitting next to them, rather than just 'talk' to them). Disturbed's version is equated to the 'rage' of someone because those warnings were not listened to - and how its becoming so 'uncomfortable' to even just 'talk' to someone without worrying about offending or being offended, because it feels easier to just 'use social media' instead of our own voices. The short version is its a warning about humanity losing what makes us 'human' - and instead embracing the 'neon god' (tech) which lets us 'communicate' but also leaves us in silence - as we forget HOW to communicate with each other as human beings.

The first time I heard them sing it, it actually made me cry as it was so full of emotion!! To me, Disturbed's version is really how that song should have always been sung. It hits you in your heart. It gives you goose bumps. Evoking emotion that strong is awesome. Glad you guys liked the song. Glad you guys are listening to so many kinds of music!!!! Keep doing these videos. :-)

I'm here with these guys because of a story about them on CNN. This is the second reaction of theirs I've seen. What I see here is two black men enjoying a video featuring a bald white man. It gives me hope that we are not as divided as the media wants us to be. The media is what is trying to divide us... We are not that divided! We are all Americans and want all of us to succeed. The more we all succeed the more America succeeds! Thanks guys for this reaction. Liked and subscribed.

Hey guys! It is hard to believe that David was quite ill when he did this live performance. That is why he is sitting down, he was afraid he would not be able to stand for the whole performance. I think that him doing this so well live and it almost exactly matches the studio version, shows just what a great vocalist David is. By the way, those "big drums" are timpani, or also called kettle drums, which are typically used in symphony orchestras for classical music. Happy Thanksgiving & I hope you both have a great weekend!
