Tim Foust worked with Geoff on getting lower notes. He uses growls predominantly. Geoff has used a growl a few times but he is a master at subharmonics. I believe he used an A0 growl in Enemy (Imagine Dragons) but it is rare. There aren't many basses that have the control over subs that Geoff has.

Oh, very cool! Speaking as a bass who is much worse at subharmonics than growls, I find Geoff’s talent incredible , and awe-inspiring! 😊

Geoff named his co-singers in his cover of Way Down, after common misspellings of his name: Jeff, Jeoph and Goff. Here he added a new one, Daryl in the leather duster. So the lineup is Jeff, Daryl. Geoff, Goff and Jeoph. All very good at interacting with each other. This is based on some American Native myths. There are similar myths in Scandinavia, where the common New Years storm and thunder is explained as Odin on his 8-legged horse Sleipner riding across the sky, hunting for trolls, witches and other creatures. Geoff tended to use his old grammophone recorder as a prop in many of his earlier videos and finally made it his usual logo. He also designed the logo in the intro to this video.

Many of his performances are slicker than a lot of professional videos - he does them himself, but they aren't random. Everything is carefully planned and produced. His skills are off the charts.

their hooves were made of steel means that they were strong bc a lot of times older animal’s hooves get worn down and it hurts the animal so basically it was saying that they were strong lol. the black and shiny horns is just imagery so they’re not cyborgs 😂

Ah, well. It would have been cool if there were cyborg cows in native american folklore. I guess I can only dream... 😂

This is an old Johnny Cash song, so yes, country, lol. He has a few (mostly older) country covers by now. This one is my favorite of those. So the symbol you asked about at the end... Geoff did a cover of Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine" a while back. (It's really, really good too. Definitely recommend!) He had the gramophone on the set of that video and everyone loved it including Geoff. He made up that symbol after that and started including it in all his videos. I imagine it's like an artists signature, that kind of thing. It's just cool looking. I've already suggested one for Geoff so I'll go ahead and suggest one for VoicePlay too, before spooky season is over. Last year, they did "In the Hall of the Mountain King." It's a very well known orchestral piece (you know it even if you don't recognize the name, lol). But yeah, no lyrics, just orchestra and they did it Acapella. It's interesting to say the least! ❤

I have always described this technique as cloning. He is his own backing group, his own one man band. It's the way he can sing all the parts of his arrangements. And he does it magnificently. He also creates all the backing music. The credits will tell you exact who did what.

No cyborg cows here. This is based an old native Ametican myth of seeing ghost riders herding cows in the sky. Geoff created the logo, In many of his videos there is an old gramophone somewhere on the set. It's like "spot the gramophone.". :) Obviously not in ourdoor settings. And he cuouldn't find a place for it in Jack's Lament.

haha, I love that! I'll have to keep that in mind! Is it only in his own music videos, or does he put them in Voiceplay's music videos as well?

This is *not* based on Native myths, it's a campfire story from the late 19th/early 20th century. Nor is it a Johnny Cash song, it was written by the cowboy singer Stan Jones shortly after the end of WW2, though it was skyrocketed into popularity by the late, great Mr. Cash and Willie Nelson. It isn't even an original tune, if you've ever heard any version of "when Johnny comes marching home' (civil war era song) you'll recognize it at once. Doesn't mean it's not a truly awesome song that has surpassed all expectations and become something iconic in its own right....which it has. My advice is to find one of the older versions, listen to it, then come back to this one and listen again (and don't stop every 2.5 seconds, give your brain some time to register what, exactly, is going on with the imagery. Let it sink in. THEN dissect it.) Geoff has covered Folsom Prison Blues as well, another Johnny Cash cover, equally fantastic. Though I imagine if Mr. Cash ever showed up on stage wearing a paper bag over his head and sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' around a mouth full of peanut butter, Geoff could make it sound amazing. I dunno how but I have complete confidence in his abilities.

Cyborg cows? Geoff does a lot of story songs. If you are unfamiliar with them you might want to hold back on analyzing and guessing meaning one phrase at a time. You keep forming opinions that don’t make sense. Geoff rarely uses the growl technique unless it is for a certain effect. He doesn’t think it makes for a very musical tone. So he rarely goes below his chest voice in his solo work, only using subharmonics occasionally.
