Yuko (singer) is the catalyst for forming the band. All are masters of their instruments and teach. The purpose for forming the band is to bring the traditional music and instruments to the youth of Japan. They have have toured the US and Europe, interviews in YT. They are more popular than Babymetal in Japan.

You just discovered the world's gratest band 🤣 Wagakki Band is Built around Yuko Suzuhana's voice and Wagakki (Japanese traditional instrument) Homura (Flame) Akatsuki no ito (the thread of down). Akatsuki no ito is a very special song for Wagakki band, it is written by Machiya and has only one verse that is repeated except for the shigin vocals in the beginning. The song is used by the audience as an encore shant and can be sung to infinity. Beni Plays "Shamisen" 3 string banjo looks like things are usually played with a large plectrum called batchi. Machiya uses a Noh mask on songs he brought to the WGB from previous solo projects. WGB constantly puts together big shows, One of Japan's most popular bands at the moment. Everyone is professional on their instruments, All songs are good, no one is equal, Metal, rock, jazz, ballads, funny songs, sad songs, etc. WGB is an 8 piece band: Yuko Suzuhana - Shigin, vocals (Founder of WGB) Machiya - guitar, vocals (Arrangement) Beni Ninagawa - tsugaru shamisen (Three strings (guitar looks like)) Kiyoshi Ibukuro - koto (Japanese National Instrument) Asa - bass Daisuke Kaminaga - Shakuhachi (Bamboo Flute) Wasabi - drums Kurona - wadaiko, Taiko (Traditional Drums) Can highly recommend: "Hakushu Kassai" Dai Shinnenkai 2018 kzbin.info/www/bejne/o5TVo4B4g5xmsLs&ab_channel=CCW "Kyougasuigestu + Tsukini sakebuyoru" React Tour 2019 kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4jPfpZjpcd3mZo&ab_channel=CCW Great reaction by the way 👍

The three-string banjo like instrument Beni played is called Shamisen, Shamisen is a difficult string instrument because it has no frets so it relies on the player's ears for precision. Shamisen is equivalent to Chinese instrument sanxian (three-strings). Japanese play the three-strings with a short spatula called bachi; while Chinese play with finger picks/protectors.

It did surprise me that it has taken you guys this long to get around to reacting to Wagakki Band. They were the second Japanese group I got into after discovering BabyMetal back in 2014. I really liked how Father described Yuko Suzuhana's singing as angelic. Myself, I refer to her as very elegant. All eight members are master level musicians, and Yuko is the finest Japanese vocalist I have heard. Their music is a mixture of traditional Japanese styles mixed with rock, pop, metal, jazz, folk, and more. Of all the Japanese groups I follow, Wagakki Band is second only to BabyMetal in international popularity. The video for their song Senbonzakura had more views than Gimme Chocolate for a long time.

One of the things you learn when in contact with the Japanese is their extraordinary work ethic. When in school, you work. In music school, you work. People at the top of their chosen field with say ' I will do my best' and 'I must try to improve'. Sadly in the west we say 'that will do'.

It's called a shamisen tsgaru, a three stringed instrument played with a large pick-like tool. Beni Ninagawa is called the Goddess of Shamisen.

That instrument she's playing is called a Sanshin, played by Geshia's traditionally. Sanshin is considered the soul of a prefecture’s music. Was originally unique to Okinawa. It is often viewed as an instrument that carries the voice of the deities, and is regarded as a deity itself. Traditionally, the sanshin was covered with the skin of the Burmese python, but today, due to CITES regulations, the skin of the reticulated python is also used. Python skin is used for the skin of the body of the instrument. Traditionally, the neck is crafted with the solid black core of the Okinawan Ebony tree, a species native only to Okinawa. There are 3 strings, called Gen. They can be made of Nylon or Silk. They are first attached to the base of the Dou (head), at the point where the end of the neck pole sticks out. A silk thread-piece, known as an Itokake or Genkake is fitted onto the wood piece, then the strings are individually attached to the 3 loops of the Itokake, using a simple draw-thru knot. The other end of the string are brought up the body and neck, and are the individually wound onto their respective pegs, called Karakui. Itokake, once only available in Gold color, are now being made in a variety of colors, to match a variety of Doumaki. Karakui, the tuning pegs, are generally made with whatever wood the neck is made from, but Ebony is most common, and desired for its strength. Acting much like the tuning pegs of the violin, cello, and other traditional western wood string instruments- Karakui will require the use of Rosin (made of Pine resin, oils, ash, etc.), after an initial period. The Rosin is applied as a thin and tacky layer, adding grip between the two wood pieces. Karakui are infamous for breaking with the slightest impetus, and are therefore readily available individually or in sets of 3.The finishing touch, and arguably 'the Soul' of every Sanshin, is the Doumaki- the decorative textile that surrounds the head of the Sanshin. Dou, meaning 'drum' and Maki, meaning 'Wrap'. Most often, Doumaki are made from modern fibers and methods, and display the Royal Crest of the Ryukyu Kingdom (Hidari Gomon), in rich black and gold. These days, a wide variety of both modern-made and traditional hand-woven Doumaki can be found. Traditionally, players wear a plectrum, made of a material such as the water buffalo horn, on the index finger. witch is what she was using. I lived in Japan for quite a while.

What everyone else has commented 🙂 You will get asked to react to Bring Me To Life, featuring Amy Lee but I hope you resit that temptation as there is so much more to the Wagakki Band than listening to Amy Lee, desperately trying to match Yuko's vocal talent. Added to which the song is nearly twenty years old. Far better in my view to watch and react to the Wagakki Band playing their own recent material. Here is a link to a song but don't worry if you can not pronounce it. The audio and visual treat is wonderful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2G0g4OJj6mtqaM&ab_channel=FrankGarc%C3%ADa
