Nicoletta was a really beautiful singer. You should try her signature song “Il est mort le soleil” (the sun is dead) and even more her backing vocals/duet to “Idées noires” (dark thoughts) by Bernard Lavilliers. You could actually do a nice dual reaction with another, newer version of this song where Catherine Ringer (Les Rita Mitsouko) takes over Nicoletta.

Her voice used to be even more powerful in her youngest days (she is now 77) but has always had this deepness. Ray Charles said about her "she's the only white with a black voice"...
@martine2u3 жыл бұрын
This is pretty close to the original. Her voice has very slightly changed in timber (very little), but the raspiness and depth are the same as they ever were. She hasn't changed much either! I hadn't seen her in 2 or 3 decades and she's aged very gracefully by the looks of it. Great song. "Il est mort, le soleil" is another good one of hers.

nicolette: a magnificent voice and very good songs, she did very good variety and then very good gospel. Ray charles said of her that she was the only white singer with a black singer voice. No more beautiful homage. You have to listen to the whole version again! it remains engraved for you for life lol like "il est mort le soleil"

As others have said, listen to Idées Noires with her and Bernard Lavilliers. And yes the original voice was raspy as well. I think the original American version of Mamy Blue is well worth listening to as well. And the music video has some epic 70s fashion.
@TheJimprez2 жыл бұрын
That was a 1971 Roger Whittaker hit. There was a kid's show called PATOF up to the mid-70s and the clown that stared in it had his version called Patof-Blue. Memories!!! I'm 52, so I grew up in Quebec, on the last years of the first children's programs batch, which were done by the cool hippie artist crowd, leftover from the l960s. We learned YEARS later that more than a few of them did most of that psychedelic stuff, STONED out of their minds, like "La Souris Verte". If you get your hands on things like Picotine, Fanfreluche, or most of all Sol & Goblet (the most extreme use of minimalism and MIME to build a scene EVER!!), and you smoke a big LEGAL Canadian joint of weed, you'll be LOST in some weird arsed world. It was CRAZY. Like growing up on hallucinogenic tv shows at 4pm. It was like a theater play every day. Even the religious stuff was about this really calm and Jesus-like master Arts and Craft guy. Every show was a little story about the bible and the kids got to build some sort of art project about it. Lots of construction paper cutting and gluing. After that, we got the progressive stuff, that came straight from the ministry of education. It changed its priorities every year, just like the real school curriculum. Mostly a mix of puppets, furries, and humans. A total mess. For students AND teachers. The period of social experimentation of the 80s.

this song is in tribute to her mother Nicolletta left her home at 18 she returned to her village for her mother who died this song is beautiful she tells her story Kim Carnes who sings "Bette Davis eyes" not false they have a bit the same grain of voice and to finish she made a song "he died the sun" she gave a very good performance so well that there was Ray Charles in the audience and he liked his soulful voice and the song since he took it back in English the sun died it seems to me.. you should make a reaction on Maurane and Lara Fabian "you are my other" you will seriously love

Have I not looked properly or you have never reacted to Charles Aznavour? He was a monument in France. So many good and moving songs. A bit like Jacques Brel, he was a storyteller. I left one summer evening Without saying a word, without kissing you Without a look at the past As soon as I crossed the border The wind was blowing harder than yesterday When I was near you my mother {au Chorus} And today I come back to you Yes, I did it all the way Who had taken me so far You are no longer there to smile at me Warm me up, collect me And I just have to leave {au Chorus} And time has passed And Mamy blue is gone The house has closed its eyes The cat and the dogs are very old And they come to say goodbye to me I will never come back again In this village that I loved Where you rest now Oh Mamy! Oh Mamy blue! Oh Mamy blue!

It's great to hear you react to French songs, I don't know if you've done it already but French old school rap is great: try "IAM" for example. Orelsan is a genius too.. I saw that you enjoyed Balavoine, have you heard his song "SOS d'un terrien en détresse"? Sung by Gregory Lemarchal, it's great too (he was a young artist with a lungs disease, he died a few years ago). If you liked Johnny Halliday, try "requiem pour un fou" with Lara Fabian. And then "je suis malade" by Lara Fabian.. Try not to cry!! 😅
