Stunning track in concert this one.Back in the early-mid 80's, Brighton rock was a staple at Queens live performances...Showcasing Brian's stellar guitar mastery. Brian & his Red Special taking centre stage for 5-8 minutes, even incorporating a searing rock version of '3 Blind Mice'... whilst the other 3 boys powdered their noses and had a cup of Earl Grey back stage.

Epic! A band of renaissance men! FYI I think that in England, Brighton Beach is their equivalent of The Jersey shore, the Santa Monica pier or the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk, it sounded like fairground/carnival background sounds. Live, that guitar solo sounds like a symphony! Live in Houston is as close to the album in length and similarity you can get, while live at Earls court, live killers, Wembley and onward are mind-blowing! That guitar solo has been Brian's labor of love that started when he was with the band Smile, evolving over time to be used in the Queen track "son and daughter". In fact he even plays a medley mix of Brighton rock and son and daughter at the Odeon Hammersmith in 1975. Over the years, Brian has continued to evolve the solo into the full guitar solo track from the 90's "last horizon", to a completely new track he wrote for Nasa in 2019 called "new horizon". During his most current guitar solo during the Rhapsody tour (which will resume touring in a few weeks) is out of this universe! From what I've seen on youtube, Brian stands on this huge, really tall platform (made to look like he's standing on an asteroid) in front of this huge screen that video projects outer space, etc and the solo consists of bits of Brighton Rock, Last horizons and his latest New Horizons composition and some of Antonin Dvorak's" New world" symphony blended in.

This is Brian's chance to rock out in a big solo. The lyrics refer to the point that at the time Brighton was the place to check into a hotel for an illicit weekend affair, hence the line "If my lady should discover how I spent my holidays" also the title is a reference to a stick of Brighton rock which is a cylindrical piece of hard candy (about an inch in diameter and about a foot long) with the word Brighton all the way through, later taken up by other British seaside holiday locations with the appropriate place name instead of Brighton.

Variations of the solo are found in SON & DAUGHTER which I highly recommend. Love how Freddie sings in falsetto for Jenny & lower for Jimmy. Brighton Rock’s guitar solo is #41 on Guitar World’s Greatest Guitar Solos Of All Time! Rock On!! 🎸🤘

The guitar solo is totally Brian's. I guess John never played guitar on Brian's songs, and if he did, he just played some simple parts (rhythm guitar roles). John played guitar in maybe 50% of his songs (idk) and that also includes some guitar solos. Probably John played guitar in some Freddie's songs. The only song of Roger wrote that John played some guitar parts was The Invisible Man and FUN FACT: The Invisible Man is the only song to have three of them playing guitar, although we can't know exactly who did each part, I just assume Brian does the solos and Roger and John do other stuff.

Brighton Beach is in England. The beginning is like the background noise from Brighton Beach. When Freddie sings high it’s like the girl in the song speaking.

Brighton Rock is a fictional recreational area! The title comes from the old-fashioned candy “a stick of rock”. Brighton Rock is also a 1948 British gangster film about an ill-fated romance involving a murder!! “I FREAKIN’ LOVE THIS SONG” 🎸🎸🎸🎸

The live version from the Hammersmith Odeon '75 concert is amazing. Brian extends his guitar solo (there's even a few bars of the kids song "Three Blind Mice" 😁). It's really incredible!

Yes! I'd said this one had peculiar vocals (to me, anyway), but if you waited, you'd get to a Brian solo that you so wanted. They also have a live concert version, about 7 to 8 minutes of pure Brian. Now they're off to the Brighton Beach for a sunny holiday! haha
