This performance is from 1967, I think. Purple Haze was Jimi's first hit, but not his best song. Jimi is my favorite guitarist. My favorite albums of his are Axis Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland. Check them out. He was amazing on another level. I saw him live when I was 14; will never forget.

One of my favourites is Love and Confusion from Are You Experienced. In my opinion, one of his greatest tracks that nobody seems to have heard of.

Purple haze was actually his 2nd hit after hey Joe. It was his first hit which was written by him (even though the b side of hey Joe, stone free, was also written by him) In my opinion, purple haze actually gave an indication of what was to follow and he used the octavia(I believe that was what it was called) a new invention at the time, which gave the guitar solos an otherworldly sound. By the time his debut album was released, the public were ready!

Purple Haze was a type of LSD. It contained 1,500 mg of lysergic acid diethylamide, as opposed to modern dosages which average 50 mg. It differed from others, such as Four Way Sunshine, in that it contained a small amount of Strychnine rat poison. I was stupid when young and I was taking Purple Haze regularly, when this song was released. Good song, bad drug. Thumbs up, for the song, not the drug!

Not the most sparkling rendition of Purple Haze, but an adequate performance by Jimi and the lads I suppose. Not as powerful as I would like to hear, and a bit of a naff ending. Want to hear a real Jimi song? Try The Watchtower. Bob Dylan song, but Bob has said that the Jimi Hendrix cover of it is the definitive version. Another gutsy song is Fire. Another is Foxy Lady. You'll love that! How about Manic Depression? That song is a competition. Competition? Yeah! Between Jimi on guitar and Mitch on drums to see actually who is the best musician. Little Wing is another lovely instrumental piece, and The Wind Cries Mary is beautiful too. And how about Voodoo Child at Woodstock? There is plenty of choice. On You Tube videos include: Jimi Hendrix, Johnny B Goode, Berkeley (real wildfire of a performance reckoned to be one of his best); Jimi Hendrix, Lulu Show, Full Version (Cream tribute that is now in color - some interesting stuff in this one - including over running the time slot on TV, and upsetting Lulu's sing along by doing something a bit different from Hey Joe); The Wind Cries Mary (Stockholm); Purple Haze, Atlanta (somewhat better than this performance); Killing Floor (a full stage performance by The Experience in Stockholm with many great tracks); Voodoo Child, Woodstock. Go ahead treat yourself K.S.O. I know you love Jimi's sound, just like we all did in the day, and still do.
