Ah, the influence of David Foster. He and Peter worked well together, but I feel that downplaying the horn section was a mistake. I love this album, I have worn out several copies of it (while that was still possible), but I like their early music best. Terry Kath was an incredible guitar player.

To fully understand the juxtaposition T experienced previously - their earlier stuff had a big-band horn section groovy/funky sound to it with songs like: "25 or 6 to 4" "Saturday In the Park" and "Does Anyone Really Know What Time It Is" These are ALL great songs and worthy of your reactions. Later, Peter Cetera (as featured in this song) took over as lead vocals in the early 80s and their sound took on a more 80s dad rock/soft rock appeal - akin to REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, Loverboy, Survivor. Peter Cetera era had ALOT of love ballad hits and made a lot of women swoon with his voice. He's also popular for the song to Karate Kid II "Glory of Love". Which is highly regarded as one of the best love rock ballads of the 80s. Other Peter Cetera fronted Chicago songs worth listening to: "If You Leave Me Now" "Hard Habit to Break" "You the Inspiration" "Look Away" "Stay the Night" "Along Comes a Woman" "Love Me Tomorrow"

I watch so many of these reaction videos to my music. Music that spans from the late 50’s to 80’s! Classic rock, Soft rock, Real R&B and I see so many reactors say they love this music. It’s sad to me that I feel they missed out on the greatest era of music ever. Real musicians writing their own lyrics and music and playing their own instruments. There are 3 and a half decades (I feel the late 90’s the music went to shit) of the best music ever created that this generation and others that follow will never experience the greatness. Thank GAWD for KZbin and these reactors for keeping the music alive. Because GOD KNOWS today radio stations will kill it.

I think, for me, it was amazing and wonderful to see young people at a Steve Miller concert...or even Foreigner in the past few years...shoot, even Fleetwood Mac. I feel sad for the youth of today who aren't exposed to such great works of art that I grew up with...and exposed our offspring to, they love it all from big band to today...very eclectic like their parents...as it should be :P.

Chicago was 🔥 at weddings in the 70s and 80s. My parents, uncles and aunts...etc. had Chicago playing at every wedding. "You're the Inspiration" and "Color My World" were the one's we heard the most growing up. "Color My World" was my parents wedding song.

Feeling Stronger Every Day...again...those horns.... and If You Leave Me Now a beautiful smooth ballad... mercy Peter Cetera melts me on this on. You sent me down the rabbit hole...yeah forgot another all time fave... early Chicago, Make Me Smile.

The previous version of the band--particularly prior to the death of Terry Kath--was more Progressive Rock, from their Transit Authorities days. After the second Greatest Hits album, Chicago felt like the Doobie Brothers after Michael McDonald seemed to take over. The other musicians started to feel more like a backup band for a singer after that. This is a good song, but I don't think it's aimed at the same audience or artistic target as something like 25 or 6 to 4. Then again, they were a lot older by then, and they had different concerns as songwriters, so maybe that's what most of the difference is.

I’m partial to early Chicago. T, I think the sound you are looking for is from their first 5 albums or so. Try the first song called Introduction off their April, 1969 debut album entitled Chicago Transit Authority. It will be much more to your liking. The whole double album is one of the cornerstones of R&R, simply a classic. 🔥

The writer of this song is the famed writer/producer David Foster. Foster is noted as the man who almost broke up Chicago. He wanted Peter Cetera to lead the band and be their front man. The band said no, so Foster talked Cetera into going solo. Cetera was replaced as well as the late Terry Kath who died in a gun accident. Currently only 4 original members still in the group

As other commenters have said, the sound of Chicago in the 80's and onward (from album "16" and up) is entirely different from their earlier albums from 1969 (first album they were called Chicago Transit Authority) and through the 70's. Albums 16 (which song is from) through 18 were produced by David Foster, who was a very successful producer and songwriter (Kenny Loggins, Chaka Khan, Lionel Richie, Boz Scaggs and a "million" more), but he changed their style from jazz-influenced rock with lots of horns to a very pop-oriented, top 40 radio friendly style with very little horns. Love it or hate it, they did have their biggest hits during that time frame, but I would definitely check out some of their earlier songs (ie. 25 or 6 to 4, Beginnings, Make Me Smile, etc.) On a side note, I would also check out the Russian band, Leonid & Friends, on KZbin. They are excellent musicians/singers and they do a lot of absolutely killer covers of Chicago songs with meticulous arrangements (and a couple Earth, Wind and Fire tunes also). If you're interested, here's the link to Leonid and Friends cover of Chicago's song Beginnings.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZy0Yp-ir7WceJY

This is later Chicago, if you really want to hear the true sound of Chicago listen to their early music. They were a much different band before Terry Kath death. He was the soul of the group. You should watch the live video of 25 or 6 to 4 from Tanglewood in 1970. Greatest guitar 🎸 solo I ever saw. Terry Kath was one of the greatest guitarists ever. Jim Hendrix even said that guy is better than me. Terri died in 1977 after his death they went to more ballads. They were still great but the mix of blues and jazz were not the same. Please watch the 25 or 6 to 4 video from Tanglewood you will not be sorry. Just watched the end of your video, that is the newer Chicago. What you were watching was the latter Chicago. There are only 2 remaining founding members still in the band. I'M not saying they are bad its like watching a tribute band. Just saying

I loved the old Chicago, jazz and rock and stuff, and Terry was a tremendous (If incredibly troubled and problematic) musician and a good singer, but nowhere ever did they have someone with the vocal capabilities of Peter Cetera, and when old Chicago fans will finally come to terms with it, then we can have a serious discussion about which version of Chicago is better.

Good singing from Peter Cetera! 😃 He did not play bass guitar here! 🙄 In the movie 🎥 Summer Lovers starring Daryl Hannah. Written by Peter Cetera and David Foster 🇨🇦 Before this album. Lead guitarist Terry Kath passed away 😢 The band was high on drugs 💉 The record company ordered them to sober up. They got outside writers to work with the band. David Foster was 1 of them He played the piano 🎹 and produced the next 3 albums. He brought in Bill Champlin. Before they joined, they wrote After the Love Is Gone for Earth, Wind and Fire. 🔥 DF brought in outside musicians to play with Chicago. Richard Marx, Chaka Khan and Steve Lukather were some of them. SL played the guitar solo here. From 1981 to 1983. In addition to Chicago, DF and SL played with The Tubes, Toto and Michael Jackson. Also in 1982, SL played with Michael McDonald in I Keep Forgetting. DF and SL worked like a dog! 🐕 What do you expect when they played with Toto! L🤣L Suggested next video 📹 The Tubes. She's a Beauty. RIP Terry Kath; Tom Dowd and Phil Ramone, each produced a Chicago album.
