I was fascinated by the passion that Dimash puts into singing this opera, at only 22 years old. Thank You so much. Greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷

Hello Michael, Dimash in duets is a whole "nother" creature and has done a lot of them ! He thrives in them, the artist in him loves contrasts, and when in them with a female, he is the most generous performer I've ever seen. He modulates to their voices, never overshadows, and strives to highlight them. He is truly a gentleman in performance and no matter who with, the performances are stunning. Thanks my friend. Patty ❤

It is apparent that sundet is the more mature performer and Dimash was just beginning to climb the ladder.

👉 This is a song from the musical “Notre Dame de Paris”. The lyrics are by Luc Plamondon. He also wrote SOS d'un terrien en detresse. This performance took place on in Moscow at the show "Big Opera“ November 13, 2016… and the solo became a crossover duet. (Frollo, the priest struggles with himself. The devotion for the church or the obsession for Esmeralda ... it tears him apart and he kills the other self.) Sundet Baigozhin is an internationally known opera singer (baritone) from Kazakhstan (participant and winner of the competition as a representative of Kazakhstan) or as Dimash (here 22 ys) calls him, the golden voice of Kazakhstan and his brother. Sundat invited Dimash to sing this duet with him. It was listed outside of the rating and made a great impression. It was around this time that Dimash decided goes his own way to open up a new world of musical activity, not the Kazakh opera world.

Sunset is playing the part of a priest who is in love with a girl. He wrestles with his soul and Dimash was playing the part of the inner self of the priest. After, sundet was making fun of one of the judges and saying what the judge might say about their performance, I believe.

Тебе понравится его разбор. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3yWf4FuoNJob6M

Thank you for your perceptive reaction as always. I especially liked your explanation of the emphasis you would have liked to hear on the word détruire. I have not watched Notre Dame de Paris so that was informative. At first listen, I liked Sundet's voice the most in this song. To me, in comparison to Sundet, Dimash sounded a bit sharp (and I do not mean out of tune but a bit screamy). I have come to like both voices over repeated listens though. Of course, Dimash was younger here and less experienced (maybe 18-20 years old), so his voice was not as mature as it is now. Anyway in this mixed genre performance his voice was deliberately used as a foil to Sundet's depth and richness and he did a great job. I'd quite like to hear them do it again now to compare it with that earlier performance. I imagine there'd be an improvement.

Hi Michael, This performance was from a Russian singing contest show for opera singers. Sundet, Kazakhstan's leading baritone (well known in the opera world), asked Dimash to perform with him. (They went to the music academy together and were friends.) I really enjoyed thiis performance; it's something very different. When Dimash graduated from the academy, he was immediately offered a position with Kazakhstan's leading opera company, but he turned it down to pursue his own style of music, blending various genres into something new. I also love that eclectic creative approach. It's a shame you didn't have subtitles for their conversation - see if you can find it somewhere. Sundet was making fun of the judges explaining their scoring standards and it's funny. Thanks for this reaction, and stay well, Carol in Boston PS - speaking of blending styles, you might want to check out the performace of a song called "Swan-Goose." Dimsh sings a very beautiful Chinese song, accompanied by a marvelous Chinese singer named Tingri and musicians playing Mongolian instruments and using a technique called "throat singing" which is almost exclusive to Mongolia. They wanted to demonstrate their three cultures' musical traditions. It's quite a unique performance. I'd be interested in what you think of it.

Interesting. I agree the “duet” worked well. Will I save it in my playlist - probably not. It is great to see Dimash jumping through genres with such ease. Definitely wouldn’t have been granted the freedom to do so if he had signed up with a record label.

Thanks again for your reaction. Well, Dimash is quite young here and he improved his voice dramatically since then. But still I like it, they tried to do something unusual in crossover style and it have its charm. I've also seen an original with Daniel Lavoie from the link that you posted in some comment below. It is great, I really loved it. Hmm. before Dimash I've never interested in opera🤔. But now I really enjoyed it, I like all operatic songs that are sang by Dimash and now by other singers as well ☺💞

“Notre Dame de Paris”- You will destroy me This ocean of passion Breaking through my veins Causing my irrationality My disarray and my bad luck I'll slowly dive into it With no hand holding me back I'll slowly drown myself into it Without feeling any remorse You will destroy me You will destroy me And I shall curse you Until the end of my life You will destroy me You will destroy me I could have foretold that From the very first day, From the very first night You will destroy me My sin, my obsession Wild desire tormenting me Making a mockery of me Tearing me part and haunting me Little illusions dealer I live but, in the expectation, Of seeing your petticoat getting blown up And of you to dance and sing You will destroy me You will destroy me And I shall curse you Until the end of my life You will destroy me You will destroy me I could have foretold that From the very first day, From the very first night You will destroy me Thinking I belonged to winter I now am a green tree Thinking I was of steel Against the passion of the flesh I go up in flames and am consumed With the eyes of an unknown woman Which are blessed much more mystery Then the moonlight You will destroy me You will destroy me And I shall curse you Until the end of my life You will destroy me You will destroy me I could have foretold that From the very first day, From the very first night You will destroy me Text: Luc Plamondon (also wrote SOS d'un terrienendetresse) Musik: Riccardo Cocciante lyricstranslate

Dimash was very young there. I think that of the 12 or 13 languages in which he sings, French is the one that is the most difficult for him. You've already heard Kazakh is incredibly different. The important thing is that he is understood at least, was he understood??? kisses from Chile.

oh yes. I have a few russians students (I think that Kazakh may be close to russian pronounciation ?)and it takes them a lot of time to get rid of their accent...and they know how to speak french, while Dimash doesn't if I'm correct...so of course, it must be really difficult for him...just like I would be awful at pronouncing Kazakh probably....like in english actually ;)

@@michaelreactions Hello, dear Mikael! French is the most beautiful language in the world, which, unfortunately, I don't speak, but I can listen to it for hours, and the French language sounds so wonderful that it is perceived as a beautiful melody. I would really like you to make a fair reaction to this performance of Dimash, after which he became famous all over the world. But many French people say that Dimash distorted the words, and it hurts their ears. And those who do not know French like this performance of Dimash so much that on the Chinese Weibo platform this performance has gained eleven billion views. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYOUiIyIeb6aaaM P. S. By the way, Russian language and Kazakh language belong to different language groups: Russian belongs to the Slavic group of languages, and Kazakh belongs to the Turkic group of languages, so they differ greatly in sound, grammar, syntax, even in the formulation of accents in the word. But people in Kazakhstan speak both languages as two native languages.

Hello Sarah! Actually the fact that he mispronounced words is not a problem for me. And I already reacted twice to SOS ;) the first time was my first reaction ever to Dimash and I was not really into it and the second time was really better ! And thanks about the precision regarding the differences between Kazakh and russian. Really interesting. Take care.
