To understand what is happening in Kai's "Mmmh" MV, you have to keep in mind EXO's storyline and concept. As you are starting to discover, each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story, and over the years, we fans have started to create a timeline and idea of what we think each part of the story is telling us. As otherworldly beings all the members of EXO have a superpower. Kai's superpower is teleportation, so what you see throughout his "Mmmh" MV is him teleporting. For example, why you see Kai move a fraction of a frame in the scene when his backup dancers "disappeared," is because they didn't disappear. Kai was the one that moved when he teleported from another time or place at that moment. In other words, he was a fraction of a second off on purpose to show that he was the one moving as he teleported, not the dancers. With what I know about EXO's storyline, nothing is ever random, and even the most minute of details have been designed to give clues and hints within EXO's story. So, even the subtle little details that you might overlook -- such as placing Kai in that shot a fraction of a second off -- could actually be done intentionally. And, I think, at the very end scene, what you are seeing is SM connecting Kai's solo storyline to EXO's storyline. You see D.O.'s power of earth (dirt) which gives him super strength/force and Xiumin's power to control snow/ice/frost being used. You also see what I think is the emergence of a pyramid, which represents Kai and his superpower -- as part of EXOs storyline, all the members have a symbol that represents them. A pyramid is Kai's symbol and when you see a pyramid within EXO's storyline it represents something to do with Kai. I also find it interesting that Xiumin returned from the military about a month before this MV was released, and D.O. just returned from the military shortly after its release, so the end scene in "Mmmh" may be SM's way of connecting the events of this MV to D.O.'s and Xiumin's future solo work as well. If you analyse all the scenes within Kai's MV you would find connections can be made to EXO's storyline and things to do with past EXO MVs and probably even future MVs, as well as SuperM's storyline. Kai is also a member of SuperM, the Kpop industry's first Supergroup that is made up of members from EXO, SHINee and NCT/WayV. SuperM's concept is that they are "The Avengers of Kpop," and the members are supposed to be superhero-like characters who are coming together to form an Avengers-like group to help EXO defeat the evil Red Force. And, like the majority of SM's groups, all of their storylines and concepts intertwin and connect. For example, in SuperM's "One (Monster & Infinity)" MV, you see Kai being chased by or being aided by drones as he tries to scale a building, in his attempt to stop the Red Force. So, I think the scene in "Mmmh," where you see him looking at the drones hovering around him, has something to do with connections between Kai's solo storyline and SuperM/EXO's MVs. Also, Kai means opening, as in a door or gateway, so as a member of EXO, Kim JongIn (Kai) was given the stage name Kai because, as the center of the group, he is supposed to be the member who connects everyone together and that is why he was given the ability to teleport. Plus, as mentioned before, it is thought that the members are traveling between dimensions and time periods throughout history in their quest to find the Tree of Life and to fix all the evil and corruption that is thought to be caused by the Red Force. So, it is thought that what you see in Kai's MV is him traveling between dimensions and across time periods in his search. That is why you see him in so many different locations and scenes in this MV. There is also a fan theory that the reason why we see Kai with so many different looks and styles in these scenes is because it's not always Kai that we are seeing. Another part of EXO's storyline is that some of the members have evil alter ego clones that have been created by the Red Force. (As we see introduced in EXO's "Obsession" MV.) So, some theories think that sometimes we are seeing Kai's evil X-EXO clone and other times we are seeing superhero, good EXO Kai. And that eye we see in this MV -- although I am not sure what it means yet -- I think it's connected to the eye we see in other SM MVs, such as Lay's solo "Namanana" MV and aespa's "Savage" MV, and maybe even the eye symbol and closeup of the dragon's eye in Lay's solo "Lit" MV. And it even looks like it could be connected to the eye we see in SHINee Key's solo "Gasoline" and "Killer" MVs. The eyes all look slightly different, but I think they are supposed to be a symbol that connects something within the larger storyline of SM's SM Culture Universe. The eye might be what the evil forces -- such as the Red Force in EXO's storyline, or the Black Mamba or whomever the new villain is in aespa's storyline -- are using to spy on everyone within SM's SM Culture Universe, which could be a metaphor for how big brother government is always watching and is in control. It also could be why we see the EXO members smashing mirrors, surveillance cameras and TVs, etc. in EXO's "Coming Over" MV. (Everything SM does is part of one giant storyline like a huge graphic novel or mystery movie series.) All of the EXO members' first solo songs have something to do with the fact that they are members of EXO, and their MVs and songs show them using their powers. For example, as you saw, Xiumin's solo debut "Brand New" MV shows him using his power of frost, D.O.'s MV for his solo debut song "Rose" shows him using his power of force, Baekhyun's debut album City Lights and MV "UN Village" talks about his power to control light, Suho's "Let's Love" MV shows him with his power to control water, and Kai teleports all over in "Mmmh". And, as the first EXO member to have a solo career, the majority of Lay's solo MVs tie into EXO's storyline as well. Unfortunately, to make it even more difficult to understand, each part of the story is not necessarily in chronological order. So, we fans have to become detectives and analyze every aspect of everything any of the members of EXO/SuperM are involved in to try and piece it all together and figure out where each part fits within their larger storyline. And the story isn't just limited to their MVs, but it extends to everything EXO is involved in, including teaser videos, live performances, concert VCRs and even a majority of their choreography. As you can see, EXO's and SM's Universe is extremely complicated and complex, and even the most expert of fans has trouble following the storyline. The thing is, none of us really know exactly what is happening in the story, it's all just fan theories and educated guesses. SM has never confirmed or denied any of our theories and they have left it completely up to fans to figure out what is happening and to create the story. (We only hope that someday SM will release the book or produce a movie that will explain the whole story, so we will know whether any part of our theories were correct.) "Mmmh" is the lead track on Kai's solo debut self-titled mini album, Kai, which came out in 2020. There are 6 songs on this album. To hear the rest of the songs, check out his epic "Film: Kai" video, which was created to give viewers a sample of all of the tracks on his album. If you think the choreography was good in the MV, just wait until you see Kai's dance practice video for "Mmmh." Once you see it without any cuts or edits, I think you will be even more impressed. As the main dancer of EXO, Kai is literally one of the top two BEST dancers in all of Kpop. And that's not just a fan's opinion, but it's a title given to him by his peers and the the industry as a whole. (Taemin from SHINee -- who happens to be Kai's best friend since trainee days, and is a fellow member of SuperM -- is the other top dancer.) There is literally no one better when it comes to dance in Kpop than Kai and Taemin. As you may remember, Kai's love for dance started with jazz and ballet. From a young age, he began training to become a ballet dancer. So he learned form and technique first before any other style of dance. That's why I think you can see such precision in his dancing. As a child, he fell in love with dancing after seeing the Nutcracker and he told his parents that he wanted to do that. So, his whole foundation with dance began with ballet. He says, that if he hadn't been bribed by his father to audition for SM Entertainment, and if he hadn't become a Kpop star, he probably would be a professional ballarino today. Kai became a trainee with SM when he was about 12 -- he debuted as a member of EXO when he was around 18 -- so he has been honing his skills and dedicating himself to become one of the best in the industry for years. And now, at 29, he has literally been recognized as one of the best of the best. Kai is a fashion icon and he is highly sought after by some of the biggest names and brands in fashion to be their model and brand ambassador, etc. He is also considered one of the sexiest Kpop idols, and he is known for his super sexy onstage personality. However, off stage his personality is the complete opposite, he becomes super shy and a little innocent, etc.

Fun fact: UN Village (pronounced like U.N. Village -- like United Nations -- UN. Not unvillage.) is a real place in Korea. It's a ritzy, trendy neighborhood in Korea where some of the top celebrities and idols live. For example, some of the members of BigBang and SHINee have, or used to have, apartments/condos in UN Village. The area is known for its cool architecture and landscapes. So Baekhyun has said that the song is supposed to make listeners feel like they want to take their date to UN Village and wander through the streets and buildings while whispering words of love in their ear, etc. "UN Village" and this album City Lights is Baekhyun's solo debut. He kind of surprised all of us with this one. Before the song was released, we all were trying to guess what kind of style and sound his first album was going to have. And, although this style totally makes sense for him, I don't think many were anticipating it would be quite this soulful. However, since then, all of Baekhyun's albums so far, have been heavily R&B based. Also, Baekhyun's superpower is the ability to control light. So, although "UN Village" is a love song and he is singing to and about a girl and about her light, the lyrics are also referencing the fact that his superpower is the ability to control light. The lyrics have a double meaning -- it's about love, but it's also about how he can literally turn off the street lights with his powers. Hence, one reason why the album is called City Lights, which obviously also references his power. LOL As with almost everything EXO does, the red light is thought to represent the Red Force and blue represents EXO. So the scenes that are red could be instances where the Red Force is in control and the scenes in blue are when Baekhyun has the upper hand. Also take note of the giant map he is looking at hanging on the wall in this MV. As we've seen in EXO-CBX's "Horololo" MV, we see what many think is that same map hanging on the wall in the office Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin are in in "Horololo." The scene with Baekhyun laying on the table still hasn't been explained, but it is thought that it will eventually become important to connect something to do with EXO's storyline in the future. As you have seen, even as soloists, they can't escape the fact that they are members of EXO.

The story in Lay's "Lit" MV, he said, is based on his favorite Chinese historical figure. In the MV he is portraying a Chinese general who has been trapped by the Han soldiers while trying to rescue his wife. The general -- who is portrayed as the character with the mask -- is a real historical figure named Xiang Yu, who fought in the battle of Gaixia. In the beginning of the MV you hear a Peking opera singer performing “The Song of Gaixia” (A traditional Chinese Opera song), which is a song that Xiang Yu composed for his wife, Lady Yu, who eventually took her own life. (Fun fact: In Lay's song "Jade," which is a song also on this album, the story is supposed to be about Lady Yu and Xiang Yu's love story.) The dancer with the long nails is a traditional Chinese dance style, and, along with the drummers, I believe it's also part of the Chinese opera performance. Lay is an ambassador for China, so one of his goals is to share Chinese culture with the world. One way he is doing this is by creating his own style of music, which he has labeled M-pop. M-Pop stands for Mixed-pop, which means he mixes traditional Chinese elements and sounds with mainstream pop and hip-hop beats and styles -- combining old school Chinese culture with new modern hip-hop and contemporary beats and styles. As he says in "Lit," "I am the King ... bringing China to the world." And that's pretty much a fact: He has king-maker status in the music and entertainment industry and he has a lot of international influence, which allows him to bring Chinese culture to the world. Everything about this song and MV is a poetic, cinematic masterpiece. For example, the word Lotus in Chinese sounds a little like Lit in English -- as it says in the camptions "Lit (Lotus)". (Another play on words, just like the Chinese pronunciation of Jade sounds like Yu, or you in English, which Lay cleverly used in his song "Jade." Get it? Jade = Yu and Jade = you.) Lay used lotus (Lit) as a metaphor for no matter how hard people try to bring him down, he will stand strong and survive through anything the world throws at him, like a lotus flower. The Lotus often represents purity. The Lotus is special because it grows in the mud, but out of the most dirty and unforgiving conditions, blooms one of the most beautiful flowers. The Lotus is a famous symbol in Chinese culture and it often represents how something good and pure can grow and triumph despite what you would think are harsh conditions. Lay has said that the idea for "Lit" comes from the fact that his haters have been calling him "White Lotus," which refers to someone who acts innocent, and uses it for his gain and plays the victim all the time. So when he wrote the song he took that negativity and embraced it and turned it into something positive. So, in other words, he is saying: "You thought you could bring me down, but you are wrong. I am not a fake white lotus, but I am a true lotus who is LIT. I am more powerful than you know and I will rise above all your negativity and show you how I grow even stronger and more beautiful no matter how much mud and dirt I have to go through," etc. The dragon is a very powerful symbol in Chinese culture, and it is even said that if you are Chinese you are a descendant of the dragon. Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize vitality, strength and good luck. In one interview I read, Lay also talked about how he has two dragons inside him -- a good dragon and a bad dragon. He said he always chooses to listen to the good dragon. The good dragon is the one who is protecting him and helping him through all his hardships and difficult times. So the main theme of "Lit" is about fighting his inner self and learning to ignore and overcome the people who are trying to knock him down. Lay is is a singer, rapper, songwriter, composer, producer actor, director, editor, dancer, designer, etc. -- genius -- and with every new release of his, he just one ups himself. And "Lit" is a prime example of that. If you take the time to read the credits at the end of this video, you will see this MV was produced by Zhangyixing Studios, which is named after Lay (Zhang Yixing is Lay's real name, Lay is a stage name given to him by SM Entertainment) -- he owns the studio. So, the credits show, Lay has his hand in almost every aspect of this production. It's his name you will see dozens of times in the credits. He is the one that wrote and composed the song, as well as the beat. He is also executive producer (So, this production was all financed by him), he came up with the storyline, he helped choreograph and he helped direct the MV, etc. This MV took more than 6 months to make and more than $1.4 million to produce. And it was all done by Lay. They actually filmed at one of the largest and most well known film studios in China and had more than 50 extras. What you saw was the real temple. The dragon was CGI, but the rest of the set is all real. You should check out the making of film, kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpCuZGykqah4jtk, and Lay's "dance practice"/choreography video for "Lit," kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4rIl6xsntxjd9U, to really see how things were made. Within the Chinese music industry and dance community, Lay is regarded as an industry expert that pretty much all other dancers and musicians look up to -- he is one of EXO's main dancers. He has even been credited with making Krump a mainstream dance style in China, and he is one of China's leading experts when it comes to Krump. (Lay's first Krump teacher is Trix who is from Korea and is considered one of the best Krumpers in the industry.) Lay's dancers are always very international, they are usually from all over the world, all races and genders and they speak all different languages. Lay's goal is always to seek out the best of the best and to surround himself with experts in everything he does. He wants to learn as much as possible and to be as diverse as possible about all styles of dance and cultures. And he doesn't just casually learn a new style of dance, when Lay puts his mind to something he goes all in and immerses himself in it with a goal of becoming the best at it. That is why he is regarded as an expert at so many different things, because he becomes so involved and studies and practices so much that he eventually surpasses his teachers.

In Xiumin's "Brand New" MV we see him turn the A/C on and then you see him in the snow. The ability to control frost/ice/snow is Xiumin's superpower. Therefore, in the "Brand New" MV we see Xiumin using his power to make it snow. Xiumin's character in EXO is supposed to like the cold because his power is frost, so in the MV he is happily changing the weather to snow and having fun in the snow. You even see him hugging a snowman/snowperson with a happy, dreamy look on his face like he is in love, which could be interpreted as the snowperson is representing his favorite person/people, EXO-Ls (EXO fans), and he is hugging us and showing us love, etc. In the beginning he adds the sticker "Art" to the stop sign turning Stop into St"Art", making this the starting point of the MV and the beginning of his art, etc. With this song, Xiumin said he was going for a retro '90s vibe with a modern twist and, I think he nailed it. And just like the majority of EXO's content, the story in Xiumin's solo MV can be connected to EXO's storyline. For example, if you pay attention to the barcode in "Brand New" we discover that it was designed to connect to the fact that Xiumin is part of EXO. > In a lot of EXO's live performances and MVs you will see the members with numbers on their shirts, which are special numbers chosen by the members. Xiumin's number is 99. The reason he chose 99 is because 88 is morse code for XOXO, which is shorthand for hugs and kisses, or it can also be pronounced like EXO. During EXO's "Wolf" era, which is a song on their XOXO album -- when the idea of their numbers was first developed -- Xiumin's teaser was the 11th teaser released, so 88+11= 99. That's why you see 99 on the barcode and all over things to do with Xiumin. > Plus, 9 represents the 9 members of EXO. > 326 is Xiumin's birthday. > 2012 0408 (April 8, 2012) is EXO's debut date. > 0805 (Aug. 5) was the day their fans EXO-Ls were named. > And everything SM does has to do with Kwangya -- even SM's new building where everything is created and produced is called Kwangya. Kwangya is the metaverse that all of SM's storylines revolve around. The license plate on the truck also says 99 90326X -- Xiumin's 99, 9 members, 0326 for Xiumin's birth date and X for EXO/Xiumin. You also see Xiumin working on solving a crossword puzzle while he is sitting in the diner. If you pay attention to the words he writes down, I think they chose those words because BLUE stands for light blue, which is the color that represents Xiumin in EXO, as we see first introduced in EXO's "Power" MV, and blue light and blue objects usually represent EXO in EXO's storyline. COFFEE might represent the fact that EXO's fan color is Cosmic Latte. And TANRON are the names of Xiumin's two cats, Tan and Ron. With the dice hanging from his rearview mirror in the truck, we can see on the first dice the numbers 5+3+1= 9, which also could represent the 9 members of EXO. This MV is full of gifts or packages because Xiumin said this album is meant to be a gift to EXO-Ls. The truck itself is even designed to look like a giant present. He even wraps himself up like a gift because he is presenting his solo debut comeback as a gift to EXO-Ls. And that move in the choreography looks like he is opening a ring box, which, to me, looks like he might be using it to represent how he is presenting EXO-Ls with a promise ring because he is promising to stay loyal to us. And in the end, we see the weather wheel turn to show wind, water and sun, which I think is a tease to the fact that Sehun who has the power to control wind, Suho who as the power to control water and Chanyeol who has the power to control fire -- the sun is a big ball of fire -- are all working on their next solo projects/solo debuts, etc. If you like this dance, you should check it out Xiumin's dance practice video for "Brand New".

The huge bolder that fell to the earth toward the end of KAI's MV signified the return of XIUMIN and D.O. from the military. It bore the symbols of their super powers (XIUMIN - frost and D.O. - force/gravity). U.N. Village is an exclusive high-end residential area in Seoul overlooking the Han River. Many celebrities, top government officials and foreign ambassadors live there. Incidentally, BAEKHYUN just moved into his new house located in U.N. Village. If you'd like to listen to a different side to solo Chen, might I suggest Light of My Life MV (his latest Japanese solo album!). Actually, the entire album, you get to experience a more intense Chen, lol. His last Korean album (Last Scene) had songs like Photograph, Traveler and I Don't Even Mind that might be more up your alley too, idk. It's different from the ballads of his first two albums. :3 I also suggest his solo concert performances of Uprising (super early in EXO days but still so good) and Watch Out from EXO-CBX live performances during their Magical Circus tour! There's a couple different uploads but ppl seem to really like the one where he has blonde hair. (You might have seen clips of Uprising from guides already but it's still nice to experience the full song, even though it's still criminally short) Thanks for your reaction~

I encourage you to get to know a group a little older than EXO, namely SHINee, they are from the same label but this is the 2nd generation. The members are very well known for their beautiful vocals and amazing performances and are respected by the industry. Taemin is friends with Kai from EXO
