John Farnham is HUGE in Australia. He has wonderful talent, can sing in three octaves in over twenty genres and is a consummate showman with charismatic appeal. A film about his music career of six decades comes out on May 18th, named, 'Finding The Voice'. John's most famous song, reaching the top hits charts in many countries, is 'You're The Voice' and he is known as 'The Voice' in Australia. There are lots of his videos on You Tube.

This concert was advertised as John and his Big Band in typical Aussie understatement, it's a 100+ piece orchestra for crying out loud. lol This song is one of the last songs of the night after he has already sung his heart out for nearly 3 hours, and Farnsey also has a way of getting into the emotions of your soul. A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also. The reason you haven't heard of him is because the US music industry is a closed little club. When John Farnham went to the US they didn't know which genre to put him in so his US promotions manager got him a couple of gigs in a little jazz club, where the MC introduced him as Jack Phantom. Couldn't even be bothered getting his name correct, so being a bit disheartened he wandered home to concentrate on his loyal fan base. The experience did give him inspiration to write a couple of good songs about missing his family, like this one. -Burn For You.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoGzp4Kehdije6M -Angels.. Notice how he holds the mike below his chest, both mikes are a metre away, which he does all the time to not drown out the other singers. John and Lisa Edwards, a top singer in her own right, and one of John's back up singers for 20+ years. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5CVf32Ifsl1hZo -To show the calibre of his other back up Singers, showing you have to be good in your own right, just like Lisa. Vanetta Fields and Lindsey Field. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lamZf2xqhKqekLM -Please Don't Ask Me.. This one with Olivia Newton John, who we have recently lost. John has also had major cancer surgery including removal of part of his jaw and we may not hear him sing again. So let's enjoy this one as well.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKa5kKeQhKmZgZo -When Something Is Wrong With My Baby.... And even when he is singing with one of the most powerful voices on the planet, Jimmy Barnes, he still put the mike away from his face and closer to Jonny Diesel on guitar. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4bCk3aZnamKfJY Or this version. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHLPd3uJhbF7ptE -When The War Is Over… Possibly one of his greatest vocals. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ope6o4uZasqBbsk -Or is the greatest. Gethsemane.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWbaoICQqaifnqs Besides having the best voice ever, JF can adjust his tone, pitch, volume, to match the person he is singing with to either match them or sing just under them depending on who's the head line act, he will even back himself down when he is the head line to give others their moment to shine, and if my ears were sensitive enough, I wouldn't be surprised if he could vary his vibrato and all of those other things that voices can do so he could accentuate the other singers.

Welcome to Australia. You have just discovered the biggest legend this country has ever had. Everyone in Australia...young and old, knows Farnsey and his legendary voice. He can literally sing anything and it's in his wheelhouse. Check out his most famous song You're the Voice from this same concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra... You're the Voice was a world wide hit in the 80's. He has had number 1 hits in every decade since the 60's and is the most awarded artist in Australia. Truly one of the very best and his voice stacks up against the greatest in the world ❤

Welcome to the Farnsey rabbit hole. John Farnham is one of the best artists you've never heard of. Superbly talented, incredibly versatile and just all round nice bloke. You can tell how much he's loved by his relationship with his audience. Thank you for your thoughtful reaction.❤ John is recovering from radical cancer surgery late last year when they removed half of his jaw, followed by a recent scare with respiratory complications. I'm sure that knowing his music is finding a new audience will lift his spirits, although he's irrepressible and never lets anything get him down - he was apparently joking around right before they put him under. *Next video should probably be "You're the Voice" as this was a hit worldwide and earned him his moniker The Voice. Choose the live version from his Classic Jack concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. *Playing to Win from the same concert, a high octane song that he wrote himself. *Long Way to the Top, also from the same concert, a joyous cacophony of sound that has to be seen to be believed. That's a start, anyway.😂

Thanks for reacting to an Aussie legend and, arguably, one of the greatest singers of all time, it is much apptrciated. Remember also, this was back in the days before digital assistance, like auto-tune, and performers had nowhere to hide. John is also one of the most unassuming people you could ever hope to meet. No airs and graces, just a really nice, down to earth, bloke.

That was just a snippet of what John can do. Check out John's signature song You're The Voice from this concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. You may find that you have heard this song before, but didn't know who sang it. John is a true gentleman and consummate entertainer, who interacts with his audience; he is capable of singing most genres, and also does great duets with fellow Australian artists and International artists alike. John's duet with Olivia Newton John singing Please Don't Ask Me from The Main Event Concert, will draw you in by the sheer theatre and mesmerizing vocals of these great Australian artists. Welcome to the rabbit-hole that is John Farnham.

Not quite. Contrary to popular belief in this particular recorded concert there was another encore AFTER this one. He came back on stage after waiting back stage listening to the cheering and chants of Sadie by the crowd and even members of the orchestra. In that next and final encore he sang Sadie and then finished with It's a Long Way to the Top.

This is a cut and paste on John and friends I give newbies to him. Here is a cut and paste about John, and his friends Olivia Newton John, Jimmy Barnes, Anthony Warlow. Started in 1967 with SADIE THE CLEANING LADY kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4vIg6Cmq6ide9k and went on from there. Close friend of Olivia Newton John who he worked with in Australia from time to time. This is a great one from the concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra: IT'S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP IF YOU WANT TO ROCK N ROLL kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWS7kK2Vr7xnick Also same concert: YOU’RE THE VOICE with M.S.O. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJ6VnpJvis6dqdE Also same concert: HELP (Beatles) with M.S.O. (version you never heard before):- kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqeYZZqfhLiFgdU Also sang DARE TO DREAM from Sydney 2000 Olympic Opening Ceremony with ONJ - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKisl6CJYrWgog (note you may need to alter a VPN setting to Australia to see that). This is good too - the 2.5 hr concert with ONJ and our Phantom from Phantom of the Opera (Anthony Warlow):- THE MAIN EVENT kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5WQhoaHecpsmsk Another good one with Jimmy Barnes WHEN SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY BABY (concert version with Diesel (Jimmy’s brother in law and formerly from the US) kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4bCk3aZnamKfJY Same song, studio version in restaurant with Diesel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5nWl6tngdqigcU A bit on John (Australia’s former King of Pop) - Born in the UK in 1949, came out when 10 to Melbourne Victoria, Australia. Same sort of history as Olivia Newton John, who was born in the UK in 1948 and cameout when 5 to Melbourne. Both worked in the industry in Melbourne in the 1960's and eventually Olivia ended up back in the UK and then the US. John became the King of Pop with the 1967 hit ‘Sadie the Cleaning Lady.’ He was in the LITTLE RIVER BAND. John had his chances to work in the US but wanted to live in Australia. Queen wanted him to replace Freddie Mercury, but he declined. www.smh.com.au/entertainment/john-farnham-asked-to-join-queen-report-20030804-gdh7j9.html He is now in his 70's and sadly went through a 12 hour operation for throat cancer losing part of his jaw back about the same time his dear friend Olivia died in August 2022. Jimmy Barnes (Australia’s former King of Rock) was born April, 28 1956 in Glasgow, Scotland. His original name was 'James Dixon Swan' and his father was a featherweight boxing champion in Glasgow. In 1961/62 his family moved to Australia. After playing in a school band (he replaced Bon Scott (who joined AC/DC) as lead vocalist in the band Fraternity. Then, aged 16 and a half, he joined Cold Chisel in 1973. First they played the pubs of Adelaide, then they played the pubs of Australia and finally they got a record contract in 1976. Now, Cold Chisel are Australian history - one of the best bands Australia ever had. They split up in 1983 because they thought they weren't playing good music anymore and they didn'twant to rip their fans off with another album. Here's another jam with Jimmy Barnes and the late Michael Hutchence INXS 'Good Times' Live kzbin.info/www/bejne/iprQqX-FjJ5laNE
