Songs like this are why Album Oriented Rock stations mattered. The disc jockeys programmed their own shows. I grew up listening to WBCN in Boston, which had been a classical station until some of the disc jockeys barricaded themselves in the booth and took it over. It became an AOR station. Peter Wolf (lead singer of The J. Geils Band) was one of the djs for a while. The music director was called "Oedipus." For many years, every night at 9:00 p.m. the station played a Zeppelin song, and it was never a radio hit. How many times did you ever hear "Achilles' Last Stand" or "Four Sticks" on the radio? Those stations are virtually all gone now. The playlists come from some corporate office and the disc jockeys are there to be personalities; the music is incidental. And that's why radio is dead.

@@richardnanian6075 Me...Also from Boston, Mark Perento (WBCN) played Jazz Fusion bands all the time... They played almost every Steely Dan Song, they played Dyna-Mo Hum at least 30 times before the FCC came down on them.... WBCN is also responsible for Cheap Trick and many other bands making it big... I watched the entire DJ staff play the band BOSTON at the Lynn Campus. Maybe 1976???

@@alldayadventures5418 Yes, all true. Parenteau, Charles Laquidara, Ken Shelton, Carter Alan, J. J. Jackson - all great djs. BCN was the first station to give a bunch of great acts airplay - the Cars, U2, 'Til Tuesday (Aimee Mann) - before anyone else did.

This shows why John Bonham was the best, Neil Peart might have been more technically sound but he needed a 300-piece drum set to do it. John Bonham did it on a basic Ludwig kit with raw talent.

Incomparable. Neil never needed a 300 piece drum kit to sound like this cause Rush never sounded like this. Neil's fills on a somewhat simpler kit, like on the All The Worlds A Stage live album from 1976 are definitely in the same league as Bonzo's in the mid/late 70s Led Zep period.

@@Rayruit I agree they are in the same league. I feel there's only a handful of drummers that are at that point it's just that I prefer Bonzo. Any of the top guys could be anybody's choice I wouldn't argue with it.

Neil Peart didn't "need" a huge drumset, Peart just wanted more to do more than the standard way of playing. Bonham and Peart are two of the best.

I was only 17 or 18yrs. old when the Led Zeppelin first came on the scene and changed music 🎶🎵 for ever, and they would always play "In My Time Of Dying" whenever they performed live. I was fortunate enough to hear and see this absolutely phenomenal band perform live in concert 5 or 6 times, every time they came to the Tampa Stadium. To hear their concerts live was truly awesome. They were even better, if you can believe it, and this song was always demanded they play by everyone there. As I look back on It now, the Led Zeppelin will truly go down in musical history as one of the greatest, like the great masters of the classical music world....Beethovan, Mozart, etc. AND the Led Zeppelin.

John Bonham--described by one music writer as Zeppelin's "secret rhythm weapon". The fact that Zep called it a day after his death speaks volumes about how important Bonzo was, to their sound. There is an apocryphal story that one of Zeppelin's early shows in 1969 was witnessed by Jimi Hendrix. After the performance, Hendrix told Bonham, "You have a right foot like a rabbit!" Awesome reaction, Jay Rah!

Yours may be the best I've seen so far. I just sub'd b/c of it. Glad you felt the drums the same intense , in-wonderment way many of us do. When u were raving in the middle of the song, I was like, oh, man, he hasnt even GOTTEN to the last three minutes yet, where Bonzo REALLY lets loose! Jimi Hendrix saw Zeppelin play one time very early in their career and went up to Bonham after the show and said, "Boy, you got a right foot like a country jackrabbit!" I think thats a true story. Love to see u do other Zep songsa. Havent checked yet. Maybe your channel is gonna be yet another "(countryjack)rabbit hole" for me to fall into, lol!

There were no double track vocals on this track. Robert just sounds like that. His vocals were touched by the finger of God while netting him in the womb. The blues you hear is they all 4; and English band loved the American Blues from the 1930' on ward. Jimmy Page also learned spanish guitar also. Bonzo the drummer was the "mad sientist" the bass/organ/ keyboard player was on his own detention of musical intelligence and artistry. When the 4 met the stars alighted. They were students of of other cultures styles and 4 different up bringing. Together, they embarked on a journey, took the world with them Now the students have become the mentors of their craft. The beats and drops live on in todays artists nicking hooks and samples, example Beastie Boys. Harmonies and imagination of every rock group and metal group. They never bitch or moan or take ppl.to court. They understand Legacy...it lives lives on and on and on like their mentors through them. Now Bestie Boys were students of Led Zeppin. Now they have become the mentors of the next generation ,and so it goes.....
