The film is based on the All American Girls Professional Baseball League 1943 - 1954 I believe. During WWII the government was contemplating shutting down men's baseball for the war effort. Most of the big name players were already in the service by them anyway. The owners decided to create a women's league in factory towns in the Midwest. MLB was never shut down and the women's league faded until it died out. The movie brought attention to this league and their impact on future women's sports. The song is to look back at your youth with fondness but to keep moving on.

I don't normally get emotional about films but the end of A league of their own when they are at the opening of the hall of fame I cry so much at that part. I don't want to put anything that's a spoiler but the sisters Dotty anf Kit OMG 😢😢 I love the scenes that feature M and Rosie, the friendship they had built in real life I think helped bond them. The biy when M is chasing the boy down the bus with her baseball bat 😅😅 Also remember what Tom H says... There's no crying in baseball!!! Hahaha 😅😅❤❤

The movie is called "A League of Their Own" - Tom Hanks Gena Davis Madonna Rosie O'Donnell - based on a true story during WW2 when all the men were overseas at war and they decided to get an all women's baseball team because Americans could not live without a baseball game - so the all women's team entertained the men and women in America - when the men returned back from the war they got rid of the women and went back to tradition of men playing the baseball game - Madonna is singing about the joy of the playground or baseball field - and how it changed the women's lives that were involved also how misogynistic it was as they forbid the women to play baseball because the men are back home and the women need to get married or be available for the men.... Gena Davis's husband was in the front line when she was the coach of a team and Tom Hanks was the coach of her competing team - Gena ended up fall in love with Tom but had to go back to her husband on his return.. good movie and historical

@@sage7980 hahaha - I'm the guy you wouldn't want to watch a movie that I've already seen because I can't shut up lol - spoiler alert .....I suppose I'm like Madonna's character - In the movie, Madonna played the promiscuous and sultry “All the Way” Mae Mordabito, that slept with every bloke in town and I am the one that spoils every movie in town so you can call me "Make it known Neo" hahaha... by the way "All the way Mae Mordabito " has an M playing her role "Madonna" and she died on the month of M - May 22 2002... MMM 2222 - Freaky hay -...Now that's a triple MMM for you - The things that make you go "MMMMM" I started to explain the basics of the movie but 'Make it Known Neo' can't stop and I thought it's a historical movie and based on a true story so I assumed he'd read about the historic content anyway lol - Thanks for pointing it out Crystal 😉🙃😅🤣

This was filmed in my hometown Evansville Indiana, and some of the away scenes in Huntingburg In and Henderson Kentucky. The song really takes me back to that time. As a smaller city and surrounding area it was common to run into cast members in town shopping or eating out. My now ex was John Lovits double during the filming and had many of the extras as social events. The best unique trivia from the time was the night Madonna came to our shitty little house turned gay bar called the Sho-Bar. My friend was djing at the time. Our mutual friend invaded the dl both when Madonna was on the dance floor and make the record scratch/skip. He was mortified. 😂😂😂 Madonna spray painted her name across the wall before she left. After the movie was released she made negative comments about the area having nothing entertaining to do. Evansville residents never forgave her for that. She was right though. The main ball park Bosse field was next to the biggest gay cruising area at the time Garvin Park. Needless to say it cramped the gay lifestyle for several months. But it was a very memorable experience and this song time stamps everything about that moment in life.

40% of Madonna’s music is moody, slow and those songs are usually her biggest masterpieces. Some of those were big hits, some were not even singles. It’s a shame most of causal listeners only know her upbeat songs, which are incredibly amazing anyway. She is a genius and will forever be remembered as one of the greatest ❤

I love listening to this song on vinyl. I got so happy when she included it on her "Something to Remember" compilation back in 1995. This is one of her prettiest ballads alongside "Live to Tell". Oh, and this video is a rippoff of Boy George's "To Be Reborn".

I'm surprised this song was requested, its not a bad song, it was a hit song and fit into what she wanted to project after the horrid press she received during the previous 2 years from the trifecta of the Erotica album, the Sex book and the movie Body of Evidence. She was all about taming her image and this song from her movie was perfect for softening her image. I'll Remember, another movie sound track was more interesting and done in the vein of Rain. But, not discounting this song - it was a lovely low tempo song harking back to Live to Tell. Those 2 years after of horrid press left her in a position unlike any other time prior. Just 3 years prior she had a top 10 with Hanky Panky - a testament to her ability to make any song a hit. Although the Sex book was a huge success, sales wide, that trifecta was a massive blow to her career and some wondered if her career could survive - and of course it did and she went on the prove to naysayers that she wasn't just an 80's artist when Ray of Light sold as well as her albums in the 80's and had several hit singles. She later suffered a similar blacklisting with the American Life album. And, in true Madonna form, she bounced back in the early 2000's with another huge career defining album Confessions on a Dance Floor along with one of her biggest hit singles, Hung Up. 3 decades and each with a career defining and popular album: The 80's album Like a Prayer, the 90's true to her chameleon like career Ray of Light and 2000's huge come back Confessions on a Dance Floor. At the time the queen of pop was 49 and had a #1 album in 41 countries - a Guinness book ranking and another Guinness book entry as the artist with a # 1 in 42 counties, Hung Up. A truly phenomenal success for an artist in her 30th year of pop music, a genre defined by youth. Unfortunately time was not on her side. She still had a few hits after Confessions, her concert tours continued to out sale all other artists, she is the billboard artist with the most #1 on a chart - 50 #1's on the dance music chart, other than 4 Minutes, she still couldn't get on the radio again. But still dominates the dance charts, every dance remix she releases still goes to #1 and the only artist to chart in 5 decades. For those that like to discount her music and influence on music, fashion, as well as her influence on new artists, none will achieve what she has.
