80% of Spain was under Muslim rule for about 800 years. The word "guitar" most probably comes from the arabic word "qitara", which originates from some Persian word... In Persian "tar" means string. Musical instrument "sehtara" i think means 5 strings (i don't speak Persian, but do know a bit as there are many Persian loan words in my language). Music flourished during the Muslim rule of Spain. I think the development of modern music theory also starts there.

To me he reminds of the Dire Straits than the Gipsy Kings. The smoothness and the precise soothing notes are the reason. He must have put tons of time into it to make it perfect in every sense. You mentioned the Spanish guitar. The word "guitar" is derived from the old Persian "chartar" which, in direct translation, means "four strings" .The guitar's ancestors came to Europe from Egypt and Mesopotamia. This band just playing their ancestors instrument which after adopted by Arabs ( after they defeated Sassanid Empire, officially known as the Empire of Iranians) and after Arab conquered south of Spain ( Andalusia), brought to Spain.
