First Time Reaction to Shinedown - Simple Man

Lynyrd Skynyrd released this song almost 40 years ago. Great songs can stand the test of time. The message of the song makes it one of my favorite songs of all time

Almost 50 years ago (1973) I was 8 and it's one of mine and my mom's favorites. Lost her almost 6 months ago. We wore out a real deal record back then playing it every day.

I’ve seen Shinedown over 30 times live. Brent Smith and Myles Kennedy from alter bridge are the 2 finest voices in modern rock music. I've been listening to them for over 20 years now. Their music helped me get through my deployments. I actually got to tell Brent Smith (the lead singer) this during a meet and greet and he hugged me and was super cool. It's awesome to see them finally become more mainstream. You'll hardly ever hear their songs on the radio except Second Chances maybe. Some of my favorites are Lost In The Crowd, Save Me, Monsters, State of My Head.

Interesting Tidbit. Jasin Todd the original guitar player for Shinedown is Married to Melody Van Zant who is the daughter of Ronnie Van Zant one of the founders and principal song writer of Lynyrd Skynyrd who originally recorded and released the song in 1973. In the Video the little girl is holding a picture of Ronnie Van Zant.

Brent is a genuine bada$$. He does a lot of shows around Myrtle Beach since he spent a lot of time growing up around here. I've seen Shinedown and Smith & Myers so many times and they never get old.

Brent Smith, the lead singer, has a very POWERFUL voice when he wants to use it, as he showed a few times in this video. Other songs on this album are fantastic as well. Yeah....Shinedown has a wicked category of songs. They are crazy good and you need to do a deep dive because you won't regret it. My personal favorite Shinedown songs (besides this one) are Monsters, 45, Devil and Enemies.

I never heard of Shinedown until I tried to find Simple Man on a music box at a pub figuring it would be Skynyrd. Heard their rendition and have been a fan of Shinedown ever since! Very talented singer and band.BTW..you can find a live song of Shinedown with Jellyroll on you tube.

There is another video of him doing this song. Posted 12 years ago. At his home, a house party. No fancy mics, no fancy sound equipment, no studio effects. Lol, looks like is was shot with a cellphone. Just him and buddy on guitar. And sounds absolutely amazing!!!!! God this guy can sing!!!!!

There is so much good music with this band and their style has changed throughout the years. Their first album (Leave A Whisper) was kind of dark with lots of songs focusing on a person struggling with who they are. The most popular songs from that album are Simple Man and 45. A couple of my favorites from that album are Stranger Inside and Burning Bright. The second album (Us And Them) had more of an edge than the first album. The most popular songs from that one are Save Me and I Dare You. Trade Yourself In and Atmosphere are a couple of my favorites from that one. The third album (The Sound Of Madness) was when they started to get popular. There were a lot of hits from that album with Sound Of Madness and Second Chance probably being the most popular. The Crow & The Butterfly is also high on the list. A hidden gem on that album is What A Shame. The whole album is pretty good. The fourth album (Amaryllis) was kind of a step down when compared to The Sound Of Madness. Enemies and I'll follow You are my favorites of the singles from that album. Through The Ghost is my favorite of the other songs that weren't singles. The fifth album (Threat To Survival) is more of a pop metal album than a hard rock or standard metal album. My favorite from that one is How Did You Love. The sixth album (Attention Attention) is a continuation of the pop metal. Devil and Monsters are my favorites from that album.

Original by Lynyrd Skynyrd and was a massive song then. Shinedown sheds a new light on it. Just a great, great song!! They have several songs to choose from and always sound good. "Second Chance" is another good one.
