Yeah, the members still refer to SHINee as being a five member group in the present tense ❤️ I think doing that is part of always remembering Jonghyun and also respecting Onew and any other member who needs to take a break for their health. At their recent concerts they had five member animated VCRs, TaeMinKey covered their parts in some songs, and they performed other songs with backing tracks that included all five of their voices 🥰 it's really beautiful

In the video for Hard, there were 4, but Onew had to take a break for health issues. In the video for Replay, there were originally 5 members, but Jonghyun has been gone since 2017, when he took his own life. Just to give you a brief background. I absolutely love Shinee(shine e) After getting more into Shinee, eventually check out Taemin's solo videos

Welcome to the SHINee World- they're a genre-fluid group, known as Princes of K-pop, SHINee has more than 400 songs, including their Japanese discography. Critics have always praised SHINee for being experimental with their music, never fitting in one box, always surprising their fans and peers with something new, and they be doing that for 16 years, LEGENDS!

SHINee (pronounced shiny or shy-knee) actually mentored both their brother groups, EXO and NCT, before their respective debuts. This is because SHINee's insane live vocals/harmonies plus their phenomenal performances became the gold standard and blueprint of Kpop and not just for SM groups either. Even Suga of BTS on his show SUCHWITA (with Taemin as a guest) said that their manager told them to model themselves after SHINee to succeed. Here's just a few reasons why: 1) SHINee were the first group to ditch lip-synching during live performances with heavy choreo and actually sing live. 2) SHINee upped the ante with choreos by increasing the complexity with extreme synchronicity. 3) First ever group to win all 5 rookie awards in a year (2008). This became known as the "Rookie Grand Slam" Award. It wouldn't be done again until 2015. 4) As an experimental group, SHINee was always debuting new genres to Kpop such as Dubstep & Deep House. 5) Began exercising creative license by writing their own lyrics by 2009 (Jonghyun wrote "Juliette" & Minho wrote most of his rap lyrics). 6) Starting various fashion trends like "skinny jeans". 7) Breaking Show Core by making them limit wins for any one song by a group to just 3 after SHINee's "Dream Girl" just kept winning. 8) By 2015, they gained full creative license over their work & Key even designed their stage outfits & becoming a full fashion director in SM specifically for SHINee 9) Taemin debuting 3 times in 3 different generations: 2008 w/SHINee; 2014 as first SM soloist from a boy group; 2019 w/SuperM. He is still doing all three, although SuperM is on hiatus 10) Jonghyun became the first-ever SM artist to write/compose his own albums 11) Who could ever forget Onew's 40+ seconds long sustained high note and his whim to sing Opera during a concert. With SHINee you get 5 phenomenal singers; 5 rappers; 5 dancers; 5 innovative performers. They are the full package and can all cover each others parts. There are no weaknesses: Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho & Taemin = 5HINee. As a group, they transformed the Kpop landscape and transformed it into what it is today.

SHINee's "Replay," which came out May 25, 2008, is literally considered one of the best debut songs of all time for any Kpop artist because it's so timeless and it never goes out of style or sounds outdated no matter how old it gets. And this is why SHINee are Icons. "Replay" isn't just nostalgic, it's legendary. And SHINee are legends. There probably isn't anyone within the Korean entertainment industry and definitely isn't a Kpop idol or staff member, etc. who doesn't know SHINee and they are one of the most idolized groups by other idols. Every new rookie group in the industry has covered "Replay" at least once in their career and it's one of those songs that is pretty much compulsory for everyone to know and learn, even still today. I'm not exaggerating. EVERYONE covers this song at some point in their career. Just search any group with the word SHINee "Replay" and I am almost certain you will find a clip of them performing this song. And, SHINee performs a version of the song, but never exactly the same way, at almost every concert, live event or show they attend. Yes, this song actually came out more than 15 years ago, and it's still one of the best songs to ever exist. You're lucky you are watching this MV after SM remastered it, because now it has English subtitles. Because, as you know, usually any of SM's videos that came out before 2018 don't have subs in the official video. And, yes, of course SHINee can sing. As an SM group, you shouldn't expect any less. You can't be SM artists without having amazing vocal abilities. Even SM's rappers get intense vocal training. That is why SM is considered the vocal powerhouse of the industry, because ALL of its artists have out-of-this-world vocal abilities. And not only are all the members of SHINee amazing singers, but they are the original vocal kings. EXO now may be considered "the vocal kings of Kpop", but SHINee were the ones that showed the industry what it meant to be vocalists. From day one, Onew and Jonghyun have been two of the top vocalists in the entire industry, and SHINee as a group make up one of the best vocal groups of all time. Onew is the one in the hat, Jonghyun is the one with the headphones, Key is the one in green, Minho is the one playing basketball (he is always the tallest member) and Taemin is the one in yellow. Onew (the leader and lead vocalist) was 18, Jonghyun (the main vocalist and a songwriter) had just turned 18, Minho (the main rapper and sub-vocalist) and Key (lead vocalist and sub-rapper) were 16 and Taemin (Main dancer and lead vocalist) was 14. However, now SHINee are known for the fact that there are no longer any fixed roles in their group. The main vocalists can rap, the rappers can fill in as main vocalists and they're all impressive dancers. SHINee are some of the most well-respected and talented artists in the industry. The Noona (the older girl SHINee have a crush on that they are singing to) in the "Replay" MV is the leader of their sister group***, Victoria from F(x). This MV came out more than a year before F(X) debuted, so this was Victoria even before debut. (Funny thing is, Victoria is native Chinese and she says she was still learning Korean during this time and she could barely even say SHINee.) Victoria was so perfect in this role because she is a few years older than any of the SHINee members so she fit well as the lead actress in this MV. As the song says, 'Noona neomu yeppeo .... replay, replay, replay ...." In other words, they are saying "pretty older woman I really like you and I think you like me too ... every time I see you, I need a replay of the moment over and over again in my head." Noona neomu yeppeo is a Korean term that essentially means "Pretty older woman" Noona neomu yeppeo is a term that is only used by guys to describe a beautiful woman that is older than them. There really isn't a literal translation of the term, so that is why the song is called "Replay" in English. But in Korean it is called "Noona neomu yeppeo." That's why if you watch SHINee on a lot of variety shows and TV programs, the older women in the show often ask SHINee to sing this song to them, even still today. This song makes all the women swoon. (Even 15 years later, when Taemin recently appeared on The Manager reality show, the female hosts of the show asked him to sing "Replay" to them.) ***SHINee and F(x) are both SM Entertainment groups, they debuted within a year of each other, they both are 5 member groups (Now 4 member groups ;( ) and they have similar music styles and concepts, etc. F(x) is pretty much the female version of SHINee. SHINee are one of the most iconic and influential groups. They are always setting trends, never following them. SHINee were designed to be SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, so everything they do is meant to be the first and they are expected to create the trend. With every new song SHINee produces it's supposed to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from them in any of their songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always sound like SHINee. They reinvent the industry with every new release. Fun fact: SM originally wanted to make SHINee a hip-hop group. Hip-hop was the style of music that was really popular when they debuted. That's why Key and Minho are both rappers and how Taemin started out as a popper in dance. But as Key tells it, they just didn't have the swag they needed in order to be taken seriously as a hip-hop group. So, right before their debut, SM switched up their sound and style to "Replay," and the SHINee members spent a few intense weeks working on their vocal abilities in order to be able to match the skills needed for a vocal heavy song like this. And the rest is history. As you just heard, this is SHINee's signature classic contemporary R&B vocals they are now known for. As you can see by their "Replay" MV, even at 14, Taemin was one of the best dancers in Kpop, and you will soon discover with the more that you watch from SHINee and Taemin's solo work, that he has only gotten more magnificent over the years. SHINee are known for their live vocals and amazing dancing. From day one they became known as CD-quality singers because they sound just as good live, if not better, than they do recorded. When they debuted they were one of the only groups who were singing live while performing this intense choreography. And everyone was so shocked with their abilities. The ONLY thing the SHINee members are not good at is lip syncing, therefore, they avoid it at all costs. When you hear SHINee singing, 95% of the time it will be live. It's a running joke between the fans and the members that when SHINee lip syncs you can tell because it's very obvious. So, unless they are required to lip sync for a specific reason, SHINee will always sing live. They have trained their entire career to build endurance and stamina in order to be able to sing live and continue to sound flawless while performing like this for more than 3 hours straight in concert. SHINee set the standard. That is why they are so highly respected among their peers. It is literally referred to as the SHINee standard. It's the standard all other groups strive to reach. You should also check out SHINee's "Replay" dance practice, kzbin.info/www/bejne/naeZYaGIaMRpb7c. It's not an official dance practice video because dance practice videos didn't become a thing until 2010 when SHINee released the very first dance practice video for their song "Lucifer," but it is a real dance practice video from way back to SHINee's debut days. SHINee are the reason why Kpop groups produce dance practice/choreography videos today. SHINee just recently talked about how they spent months as trainees practicing this choreography in order to get it down perfectly. During Taemin's recent appearance on The Manager, you will see all 4 of the SHINee members in the dance studio practicing for their "Hard" comeback last year, as well as their concert performance, and they talk about what it was like when they were trainees learning the dance.

SHINee debuted 25 May 2008 as an experimental, contemporary group and is comprised of the five most talented guys (the “Most Shining in the Universe”) in South Korea. They’re tasked (and are incredibly successful) with introducing new ideas ranging from concepts, music genres, fashion, and more to the industry. They set the trends and others follow in their footsteps. One such trend is known as the SHINee Standard-intense choreography whilst singing live, even since their debut. In fact, SHINee is one of the few K-pop groups who have won 1st place on music shows in 3 different decades: 2000s - “Love Like Oxygen”, 2010s - “Lucifer”, 2020s - “Don't Call Me”. The only thing SHINee is known to not be good at is lip syncing, so they typically don’t. They’re known for their incredible live vocals and have been lovingly nicknamed “CDNee” because their live vocals are even better than their recordings, despite their heavy/intricate choreo-it’s like they eat their CDs for breakfast. They trained by singing while taking long runs and kept that conditioning up-after all, their concerts last 3.5 hours or longer with insanely intense choreography and vocals. They give their all during their performances, but you’d never know they were so tired their managers have had to carry them afterwards. All five members are also accomplished soloists. In fact, SHINee is the ONLY group in which every member has hit #1 on Worldwide iTunes and appeared on the music shows MNet/M Countdown, Show! Music Core, and Inkigayo as solo artists. Between SHINee’s 16 years of music as a group and over nine years worth of solo discography, there is a LOT to discover…and that doesn’t even include the countless movies, musicals, TV shows, radio, and various other solo activities they have to offer. From business to sports, fashion to investments, cultural programs, philanthropy, social justice, human rights, academics, etc…our Shining men are truly incomparable. Something that is important to know in regards to SHINee…I mentioned they are a five member group, and that is true to this day. However, Jonghyun tragically lost his battle with depression and anxiety in December of 2017. He was always incredibly open regarding his struggles with mental health…which isn’t taken seriously in South Korea (though it is improving, from what I understand…in large part due to the tragic losses of Jonghyun, Sulli, Goo Hara, and other idols). Doctors pretty much told him to suck it up and try to be happy. His death was devastating, not only to SHINee and Shawol (fandom name, short for SHINee World), but for all of KPOP, Korea, and the world. He is still missed terribly and appears regularly on charts for popularity and listening counts. Jonghyun was regarded the best vocalist of KPOP and was the first SM artist to release a self-written album. He wrote tons of songs-not just for himself or even SHINee, but for other well-known artists, as well. The members of SHINee obviously took his loss very, very hard, but decided to continue as a group that will always remain five. To this day, they are very vocal about the fact Jonghyun is still with them and SHINee is FIVE; they even leave his spot open in choreography sometimes and keep his microphone backstage during performances. (HARD is their eighth full-length Korean album. They also have mini albums, Japanese mini albums, and Japanese full-length albums. Their discography is huge and freaking incredible.)

I think the storyline in SHINee's "Hard" MV can be interpreted in two ways. As you may have noticed, the whole MV has a piano theme. For example, in the beginning when the scene becomes animated, it showed Taemin being pulled into the piano. And, if you look at the set with the brown walls, you will notice that it looks like the inside of a piano with the wooden hammers that create the sound when the keys are played on the walls behind them. And the lighted white screen is divided like the white keys of the piano with the people's silhouettes representing the black keys, etc. This could represent how music is what controls their lives and it's what has trapped them in this world as artists. Which could be similar to the themes within Taemin's solo Never Gonna Dance Again album trilogy -- "2 Kids", "Criminal" and "Idea" -- and his epilogue "Advice." However, I'm also pretty sure that the whole "Hard" MV storyline is connected to SM Entertainment's SM Culture Universe. The more I watch it, the more I see that seems to indicate that it's all connected. As with all the groups under SM Entertainment, their storylines are all part of a larger concept kind of like a giant graphic novel or action movie series with a twist. SHINee's story, so far, primarily connects to EXO's and SuperM's storylines. Each group has their own individual storyline and concept, but when you put them all together there are threads of connections between the groups. You could sort of think of it like the Marvel franchise. Each of the Marvel characters has their own storyline, merchandise and fans, but the stories and concepts often overlap and connect. And with each new character that is introduced it expands on the whole Marvel universe. To understand how all of SM's groups are connected, keep in mind that it all began with EXO's origin story. As you know, EXO's concept is that they are aliens from Planet Exo, who have been sent to Earth on a mission to find and protect the Tree of Life from the Red Force, while also trying to fix all the things that are going wrong in the world, which are believed to be caused by the Red Force. The Red Force is thought to be here on Earth inflicting their evil agenda -- corrupting humanity and causing all the bad things that are happening in the world, such as war, hate and destruction of the environment, etc. And because EXO is trying to undo and prevent the Red Force from accomplishing their goals, the Red Force is also trying to take down EXO by capturing them, corrupting them and standing in their way, etc. With SHINee's "Hard" MV, I think when we first see Taemin in the black sleeveless suit, he looks very similar to what he looked like in his SuperM debut teasers, which could mean that this could be connected to SuperM's storyline. As you also know, SuperM is the Kpop industry's very first supergroup, which debuted in October 2019, and their concept and storyline is centered around the fact that they are Avengers-like superheros, so SuperM is the group that pretty much connects all of SM's groups together. As part of EXO's story, Baekhyun and Kai have recruited members from SM's other male Kpop groups -- Taemin from SHINee, Taeyong and Mark from NCT, Ten from WayV and Lucas who is a former member of WayV -- and formed SuperM, to help them battle the Red Force. As "The Avengers," SuperM is taking members from each of SM's groups and joining forces to take down the Red Force. And, just like how the movies "Avengers Identity War" and "Avengers Endgame" eventually had each of the Marvel Avengers members recruiting their whole crew to help in the fight, I think SM is setting it up so that all of its groups' members will eventually be brought into the conflict. I also think the story in "Hard" could even be connected to Taemin's "Advice" storyline. We see him with his hands painted blue in "Hard," similar to his black ink-stained hands and body in "Advice," and in both scenes we see him standing in front of/playing a piano. (Technically, Pearl Aqua is SHINee's color. However, before LED lights were invented, creating a wider range of colors -- making way for SHINee's official Pearl Aqua color -- they used blue and green in things to do with SHINee. That's why we still see blue, green and aqua with most things SHINee related.) Some have pointed out that the scene with the silhouettes behind the screen reminds them of the scene in Taemin's "Criminal" MV, with the people behind a screen pushing their hands into it. However, in "Hard" Taemin is standing in front of the screen, rather than walking through the middle with the two sides reaching for him like in "Criminal". Although, I also think that scene could be connected to EXO's storyline, because we see in EXO's "Tempo" MV a scene where there are silhouettes behind a lighted white wall that looks very similar to this. In EXO's storyline, the people behind the wall are thought to be EXO's alter ego clones who were created by the Red Force or they could be the EXO members who are trapped behind the wall. We also see EXO fighting with their silhouette shadows in their live concert performance of their song "Wolf," which is also thought to be EXO battling X-EXO as they search for the Tree of Life. Ever since SHINee came out with "Don't Call Me" -- their previous release in 2021 -- I think the storyline in that MV was supposed to be SM bringing SHINee into the SM Culture Universe. In their "Don't Call Me" MV it looks as though the SHINee members go through some sort of wormhole as they are teleported somewhere and we see them all posing in their black outfits like they are getting ready for battle. This looks very similar to the scene in SuperM's debut "Jopping" MV when the SuperM members are coming together at the beginning of "Jopping." Therefore, because Taemin is a member of SuperM, I think SHINee is supposed to be getting ready to join SuperM in the fight against the Red Force. In "Hard" we also see Taemin standing on a grate as he crouches down and looks through it at the "people" in white trapped below, similar to his scene in SuperM's "Jopping" MV. The scene with Key standing with all the dancers in white -- which I think are supposed to represent the white keys of a piano -- sitting in a circle around him, also seems to be an important part of the story, however, I'm not sure what it all means yet. We see Key remove the mask of one of the guys and we discover the guy has a glowing blue earpiece, which seems to be suggesting that they are being controlled by outside forces. However, because they are all just sitting there without moving, it seems to indicate that they are currently "shut-down". Either these people are androids or robots, like in EXO's "Lucky One" MV, or they are people who are under mind control. Although, I don't think they are being controlled by the Red Force necessarily because we don't see any trace of red anywhere in that scene. Instead, the color we see is blue, which usually within EXO's storyline means that it represents something to do with EXO, who are the good guys. Plus, as I said, blue with SHINee usually represents SHINee and their connection as a group. Minho standing on the edge of that rock formation looks similar to the scene with Girls' Generation's Taeyeon standing on the rock in the middle of the ocean in Key's solo "Hate That ..." MV, and it also looks a lot like the scene in SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV, with Key standing on the submerged phone booth. It all has the same feeling. (Notice how they also are all wearing red in all of those scenes.) In the next animated scene, we see what looks like Minho in the red jacket fighting with the same piano key ropes that pulled Taemin into the piano in the beginning. To me, it looks like it's trying to keep him trapped within the piano and under the control of the music. However, in the next scene we see the giant piano has been destroyed behind them, which could represent how music no longer controls them, but they now control the music. (As the SHINee members have said, in the beginning of their career they did whatever they were told to do, however, now that they've been in the industry for more than 15 years, they have learned how to be their own artists, and it has afforded them the opportunity to now make their own decisions about their music and to participate in creating the songs and designing their albums, etc. They are now the ones in control.) In the last scene at the very end, after the Hard8 title, it reminds me of the same menacing red atmosphere as Minho's rap section in their "Don't Call Me" MV, where we see him in an all-red room with chairs hovering above him. Therefore, I think the gloved hand is Minho's hand because it looks like the same gloves that Minho is wearing in the scene right before that where they are dressed in black. Although I don't know what that means yet, I am sure it is something to connect the storyline to something within one of SM's MVs in the future or will make more sense when more of the story is revealed as SM releases the next chapter, etc. But you should also know that no one really knows for sure what is happening in any of the story. There are well known theories and storylines that are accepted within the fandom, which we think might explain what is happening in each MV. And there are theories about how each MV is connected and where each falls within their larger storyline, but nothing is set in stone. Fan theories are constantly evolving and changing with every introduction of a new piece of the puzzle. New things are revealed with every MV release, concert, event, or appearance, etc., which could either add to or change the storyline.

My man here got Shinees essential vibes in the first few minutes 😋: Onew: 'Man I LOVE his voice!' Taemin: 'The vocal flex and moves!' Minho: ' This guy looks PISSED but charismatic as hell!' Key: 'This dudes vibe is just so extra!' Spot on 😄😄😄😄 Also you're correct on how different these songs are. Shinee is very experimental and essentially switch styles every comeback. It makes them a bit harder to pin down than other groups but on the flip side discovering Shinee is just such an interesting musical journey through all kinds of styles and genres (especially if you consider they all have very success/different solo careers).

In SHINee's "Lucifer" MV the "smoke" or "light trail" you see is supposed to represent the aura of a girl who has devilish powers like Lucifer, who is trying to possess them and take over their lives. As the English lines in the song say, "Loveaholic, robotronic ... her whisper is the Lucifer." (They are using auto tune because they are supposed to be "robotronic"-ly controlled by the girl who is "The Lucifer." So the auto tune is meant to make them sound robotic.) In other words, the woman or girl they are talking about is so desirable that she is like Lucifer and you have to use all your willpower just to resist her wiles. Onew (pronounced Oh-New in English or On-New with a Korean accent) is the leader and he is the one with the vest with the fur on the back, Jonghyun is the one with the backless vest with the crazy high note, Key has the side of his head shaved, Minho is the tallest one who is the rapper with the short hair and Taemin is the one with the red pants and the long hair. In the MV you see them trying to fight against Lucifer's powers and resist her attempts to try to make them bend to her will, etc. That's why in the choreography you see all the robotic moves because they are showing how "Lucifer" is trying to control them like a robot. For example, they put their wrists together like they are being handcuffed to show how she is trapping them, and they vibrate to show how they are being manipulated by "Lucifer" and they are trying to resist her powers, etc. FYI: That vibration you saw them do is 100% them actually shaking like that, there aren't any camera tricks. If you pay attention when they perform "Lucifer" live, you will see them do that exact same thing. :D When they explain to people how to do that move they say you have to "tense all your muscles and then pretend like you are being startled." Just wait until you see some more of Taemin's solo performances and discover how much of an expert he is a popping and ticking. He is considered one of the best poppers in the industry, and he can literally isolate every joint and muscle individually and make any part of his body vibrate at warpspeed. LOL we have no idea why they had to be dancing in front of a sports car, but that was kind of an iconic thing that Kpop companies did back then in a lot of their MVs. (That is a real car, nothing about it is fake. Why would you think the car is fake? If you watch the behind the scenes of them during the making of the MV you will see that the whole set is real.) The group would dance around a fancy car to show off their coolness and to give the video a more futuristic, expensive looking aesthetic. "Lucifer" was released in 2010 -- more than 13 years ago -- so this was just the look that a lot of MVs had back then, in part because everyone was following SHINee's lead. Just take a look at TVXQ's, Super Junior's, Infinite's or 2PM's MVs, etc. from around that time and you will see a similar look and style. SHINee was setting trends in the industry with "Lucifer." I'm not sure why people are often so thrown by their hairstyles and outfits in this MV. :D I think they are actually all pretty cool for doing something different that sets them apart from everyone else in the industry. That is what makes SHINee legends and why "Lucifer" is such an iconic song and dance. You're not going to remember a group or a song if they look and sound the same as everyone else, you remember them for standing out and not being afraid to be unique. You only wish you were brave enough to look as cool as they do in this MV. SHINee are icons for everything they do including their fashion and hairstyles. On the contrary, they don't look like that because they "didn't care", their hairstyles and clothing choices were chosen because they wanted to stand out. Everything SHINee does is trendsetting and because of their experimental concept, they are intentionally meant to do something that no one else is doing in order to create the next trend. Nothing SHINee ever does will be the same and they tackle a new genre of music, dance and fashion with EVERY song they release, including within the a single album. They are the group that the rest of the industry pays attention to as a guide for what the next trends will be in the Kpop industry. SHINee are also known for never being afraid to experiment with everything they do, including their style, and as the fashionista and literally a stylist for the group, Key is always looking for ways to be unique, so his head was really shaved on the one side. What you see is his hair was bleached blond on the side and then shaved down to his scalp. He is known for always being unique and wanting to stand out. That's why Key's style is often just straddling the edge of outrageous, but somehow always manages to look cool. Fun fact: I think one reason why Minho's hair is so short at this time is because their previous comeback was with their song "Ring Ding Dong," and all the members had pretty long, shaggy hairstyles in that MV. However, Minho has never liked having long hair. So, I think for "Lucifer" Minho decided to rebel and go really short. This was also the era where Taemin had long hair and it made him one of the most popular of the members at the time, especially with their Japanese fans. The Japanese culture really embraces men with long hair and the members said that he was one of the most popular at the time because of his style. Taemin with long hair is so iconic and many in the fandom were really sad when he eventually cut his hair. So, in this MV, Taemin had just turned 17. Onew and Jonghyun are 20 and Key and Minho are 18. If you want to see where SHINee truly shines, you have to check out a performance of "Lucifer" Live in concert at their SHINee World Concert III (SWC3) in Seoul from 2014, kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ6Yn2uHZ72CaZY, and/or their "Ring Ding Dong" and "Lucifer" set at their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) in Seoul in 2016, kzbin.info/www/bejne/o6WpfGp8rbCXgtU. This is a perfect example of how you can tell they are singing live and killing it every time. SHINee doesn't need auto tune, and if you hear them perform the song live, they often don't use it. If you think Jonghyun's long high note was amazing in the MV, just wait to see what he can do live. "Lucifer" is actually known as one of the most difficult songs and dances to cover because of its tutting and popping and for the fact that it has a very fast paced beat with dance moves that are very sharp and precise, which are designed to hit every beat of the song. (They actually refer to that tutting formation as a bug or worm. Their arms are supposed to look like the legs of a creature.) And the song itself is very complicated with the songs wide range of notes and flow. Many amateurs have thought "Lucifer" looks like one of SHINee's more simple songs and dances. But the minute they try to sing the song and/or dance the choreography, they soon discover that it is way more complicated than they thought. It only looks and sounds simple, because SHINee makes it look that way. Check out this clip of SHINee teaching a group of actors and comedians "Lucifer" as part of a challenge on the variety show "Invincible Baseball Team," kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4WvdH5tgMd_q9U and kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoeTY5aHrL5_g7M. It's funny because when they came to meet SHINee to start the practice, Jonghyun asked them why they chose this song of all songs, and they said because it looks manly and they thought it was fairly easy to cover. But the first thing Jonghyun said to them, while laughing, was "oh no, actually it's one of our most difficult and it took us extra time to really perfect it." :D You definitely should check out the dance practice. SHINee's "Lucifer" dance practice was the very first dance practice video ever in the Kpop industry, released specifically for fans. SHINee is the group that started the trend and their "Lucifer" dance practice video is why dance practice videos are even a thing today. :D It was the very first dance practice video to go viral. Back then, dance practice videos were filmed for the group and artists to watch to help them remember the moves and to fix mistakes, etc. They weren't intended for a mass audience. But SM realized that fans were starting to try and copy SHINee's choreography, so they decided to film a dance practice and release it to the public. SHINee's dance practice videos became so popular that other companies and groups started to do the same and show off their choreography by releasing dance practices too. But like everything SHINee does, they were the first.

With "Don't Call Me," SHINee are just doing what we longtime fans have all come to expect from them -- showing us something that has never been seen or heard before and starting a new trend. Every song you hear and every choreography you see from them should be like nothing they have ever done. They are supposed to reinvent the industry with every comeback. When it comes to SHINee, it should always feel "very different." And "Don't Call Me" is a perfect example of that. "Don't Call Me" was released in 2021 and it was SHINee's first comeback in almost 3 years because Onew, Key and Minho had all just recently been discharged from the military. This comeback was a really big deal because it was the first time we had seen SHINee back together in a really long time. With this comeback, they set out to outdo themselves within only a few months of their return from the military, and they had to do it all within a couple of months because Taemin was about to enlist. Not only did they have this comeback, but they also had a repackage album comeback with their song "Atlantis", a Japanese album comeback with their song "Superstar," a virtual beyond Live concert and a Japanese fan meeting. And what was even crazier, was that it was all while Taemin was still promoting his solo comeback with his song "Idea", he had a comeback with SuperM's song "We Do" and a follow up solo comeback with his song "Advice," as well as Taemin's solo Beyond Live concert, etc. I mean they were working nonstop. Plus, Minho was filming a drama, Key was back as a cast member on the variety show Amazing Saturday and Onew was involved in other activities. SHINee are known as one of the few groups that rarely take a break, they are usually busy with one project after another. Onew (Pronounced Oh-New in English or On-New with a Korean accent, real name Lee JinKi) -- the one with the hoodie -- is the leader of the group and he has one of the most unique voices in the industry. He is the one with the voice that impressed you. He is considered the male vocalist with the most consistent voice. He was one of only two people ever chosen to become a trainee by the founder of SM, Lee SooMan, himself, impressing him with his talent when he was only about 17. He is now considered one of the most coveted voices in the industry that can pretty much be paired with anyone regardless of their vocal style or music genre. Key (The "Master Key", who can unlock all the doors in the entertainment industry with his talent. His real name is Kim Kibum, hence why his stage name is Key.) -- the one with the feather headpiece -- is our fashionista of the group who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits*. He has even been given the official title of SM's Director of Fashion. He is also SHINee's dance copy machine who is the fastest to memorize choreography. He literally can see a dance for the first time and reproduce it on the spot almost better than the original. He is an amazing singer and is a sub-rapper in the group. *Pearl Aqua is SHINee's fan color, so all the blue/green aqua colors you see in this MV are meant to represent SHINee. That is why in the scene where they are wearing the brown outfits, Key has the aqua yarn woven into his sweater and why the collar of Onew's jacket was dyed aqua, etc. Minho -- the one with the red hair** -- is the main rapper and visual of the group, but his vocals are also some of the best in the industry. Minho sings just as much as he raps. He also writes most of his own raps in SHINee's songs. He is considered the president of SHINee's fan club, because he is all the members biggest fans. He literally attends all the members solo events and promotes SHINee like Shawol. He is also known as a star athlete. He says these days he goes to the gym a couple of times a day to work out, just because he likes to work out, but he also is crazy about soccer, and he plays basketball, baseball and golf, and he is good at track and field events, etc., as well. And, not only does he enjoy playing all those sports, but he is usually the best athlete on the field, and he wins pretty much every time. Minho's nickname is "Flaming Charisma," and one reason is for his intense passion for sports and games and his need to always win. ** There has only been a handful of times in the past 15 years that Minho has ever dyed his hair any other color besides brown or auburn, and when he does, he only keeps it that way for a few weeks. :D As you may know, Minho is a lead actor in a lot of K-dramas and movies, and, when not promoting with SHINee, he is almost always working on his next TV or movie project. So, one of the reasons why I think he doesn't dye his hair as often as other idols, is because of his acting roles. The majority of the roles that he plays are boy next door-type characters or historical dramas, etc. so, he needs to look as average as he can. (Or, at least as average as a guy who was born with model good look anyway ;D) Case in point, he literally dyed his hair for this MV and then dyed it back brown because he was filming a drama, and then he dyed it red again when they started their comeback activities, all within the span of a couple of weeks. And, Taemin -- the one with the blond highlights and the white bandana -- is considered one of THE BEST dancers in the industry (Kai from EXO, who happens to be Taemin's best friend, and a fellow member of SuperM, is the other top dancer.) The title of best dancer was bestowed on Taemin by his peers and industry experts, so that just goes to show you how good of dancers all the members of SHINee must be. Taemin's nickname is the Korean Michael Jackson for a reason. He is an idol of most other idols and a legend among legends. SHINee are one of the top groups that are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. You should also check out SHINee's live performance stage for "Don't Call Me," kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGSUYWaJqsRgma8. (If you like the piano in this song, just wait until you see their live performance. The piano becomes even more noteworthy in the live. I won't spoil it; you will just have to watch it to see what I mean. :D)

Shinee's live performances are absolutely worth checking out: all 5 of them completely slay the vocals and kill the choreos and have ridiculous stage presence. If you want more examples of Jonghyun holding high notes (as he does in Lucifer), there's a Ring Ding Dong / Lucifer remix from Shinee World Concert 5 where he stretches that long note out even more dramatically; also "Stranger" from Shinee World Concert 4 is iconic for Jonghyun's high note part. (Onew can hold a note for insane lengths of time, I think over 40 seconds once although I don't know the context of that long note; I don't think it was in a Shinee song, though.) If you want a showcase of the members' voices, the live performance of Romeo + Juliet from Shinee World Concert 5 is outstanding. They aren't dancing for that one, but the vocals, especially Jonghyun and Onew, are insane. You really can't go wrong with any Shinee, older or newer songs, or with the solo work from any of the 5 members. I would just suggest that you can get a better feel for who Shinee is and what they can do if you check out their live performances and not focus exclusively on MVs. (For their older songs, anything recorded 2017 or earlier, I would suggest live performances from 2017 or earlier, such as Shinee World Concerts 4 or 5 for example, so you have Jonghyun there and will get the full original experience of the song.) I love how much you enjoyed these varied songs in your intro to Shinee - I hope you enjoy continuing the journey!

Because you mentioned how much music they've put out, you need to count their Japanese discography because they're one of the rare kpop groups who take their Japanese release seriously AND created original songs in Japanese (not only the JPN version of their Korean title tracks). Also their B-sides are to die for, it feels like their concert is ever long enough because just too many great songs we need them to perform live. ANDDDD their solo albums are insane also. Stanning SHINee feels like stanning 1 group and 5 solo singers. I made a SHINee ultimate playlist and all songs (with no repeat, only 1 version if the songs have multiple) all added up into 467 tracks, 5+ hours long lmaooo. They are also still consistently putting out albums with no long hiatus except for their military enlistment. Their longevity is one of their awesomeness.

Super Junior, SHINee (pronounced "Shiny", like "oh, that's a shiny car"), TVXQ, and 2PM were my favs. (I still love all of them! So great!) "Don't Call Me" is the ringtone I have as the default for all the phone numbers that aren't saved in my contacts. LOL I highly recommend you check out their solos as well. Minho (the charismatic one) has "Chase" and "Heartbreak" (Heartbreak came out first). Key (the one with the half-shaved hair in Lucifer) has "Bad Love", "Gasoline", and more (my tired brain can't think). Taemin (the one in SuperM) has "Advice", "Criminal", and more. Onew has "Dice". :D (This isn't a comprehensive list by any means LOL)

Onew didn’t tour when promoting this album but was in every song on the album! Blue hand man is Kpop icon Taemin..who is also in Super M! The vocalist in Replay is Jonghyun. He was a prolific lyricist and an awesome vocalists. Sadly, he gave up on life in maybe 2017(?). Notice that there are only four members in the first song. Right now there’s only three. Onew with the classic/opera voice has been on a long hiatus. I miss the whole group. One of their songs Ring Ding Dong (?😄) was banned from students’ phones during exams, because it was so distracting! EXO, Shinee, & Super Junior were the first Kpop groups I found. And they are still my favorites.

Thanks for checking out SHINee... they debuted in 2008 with the song Replay (which a lot considers as the best debut song in kpop ever). Jonghyun (the one you were amazed with the vocals in Replay) passed away in 2017. And currently member Onew is on hiatus due to health reasons and wasn't able to finish mv shooting for Hard (hence you only see 3 members on some scenes and at the end). The group is currently on concert tour with only 3 members but they continue to refer to themselves as 5 member group (even shawols - SHINee's fandom also still see them as 5). Yes SHINee songs tend to sound different from each other. They are very experimental and don't stick to one genre. They are also known for their live vocals. Hope you can check out their live performances as well. Trivia - SHINee started the dance pracrive trend in kpop. They are the ones who first publicly released the dance practice for Lucifer. This also inspired other groups to have more intricate and difficult choreo in kpop.

With "Hard," SHINee is just doing what they are known for -- starting a new trend. Nothing you hear from them will ever be like anything you have ever seen or heard before. They raise the bar even higher with every comeback. And that's what makes them SHINee. :D With every new song release, SHINee always comes out with a style and sound that is brand new, not only for them, but in the industry as a whole. What you just experienced is exactly what makes SHINee legends. And, this is the reason why they are so highly respected, and why almost everyone in the industry who came after them cites them as one of their biggest influences and one of the reasons why they wanted to become a singer and dancer, etc. The whole reason why they chose "Hard" for their title track is because they wanted to show everyone that SHINee can do any genre, including hip-hop. Although, just to make sure you didn't forget that this was a SHINee song, they couldn't just do straight hip-hop. They had to create this hybrid mashup of pop, rock and retro hip-hop, etc. to give this song that SHINee flavor. They killed this!! One of the best comebacks of 2023 and in my opinion, should have been album of the year. You can't tell me that you're not singing "hard like a criminal, hard like the beat, hard like ma flow ..." over and over again in your head after hearing this song. LOL We can definitely add this to SHINee's earworm song list. And the rest of the songs on the album are just as catchy. And, as you are starting to realize, switching up the beat and style of the song in the middle of the song is pretty much how the majority of SM Entertainment's songs are structured. It's kind of SM's signature style. This song was written by Kenzie, who is an SM songwriter and producer that has written a large majority of SM songs. She even has her own studio at SM, that's how much she is involved in SM's sound. However, the SHINee members participate in all aspects of the songwriting and producing, as well. That's why it has that signature SM design, and, yet, it's also very uniquely SHINee. The fact that this song is nothing like anyone expects, and different than anything out there, is exactly what makes it a SHINee song. SHINee were designed to be SM Entertainment's experimental boy group, so everything they do is meant to be the first, and they are known for creating the trend. With every new song SHINee produces, it's supposed to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from them. But it will somehow always have that SHINee feel. This is really just SHINee going back to their roots. Before debut, SHINee was actually training to be a hip-hop group. However, as Key tells it, they just didn't have the swag to pull off hip-hop full time, so last minute SM decided to change up their style to the contemporary R&B style of their debut song "Replay" that they have now become known for. "Hard" just proves that SM wasn't wrong, and SHINee has no problem in the world of hip-hop. But their destiny and calling was to be a group that never ties themselves down to just one style or genre. They were meant to show the world that they can be diverse and unique and never do the same thing twice. With every release that SHINee has they intentionally flip the script and change things up in the Kpop industry. That's why, when SHINee makes a comeback, everyone pays attention because they are looking to SHINee to show them what the industry's next song style and dance trend will be. It's actually said that within 3 months of SHINee making a comeback, you will see that same sound and dance style being duplicated across the industry with every comeback to follow, for both boy groups and girl groups. When SHINee does something, the industry takes note and follows suit. You just discovered why SHINee still holds one of the top spots after more than 15 years in the industry. Just wait until you go through their entire discography of songs and MVs. So far, they have 14 full-length albums (8 Korean albums and 6 Japanese albums), several repackaged albums, a multitude of mini albums, numerous OSTS, they each have solo songs and albums and there are hundreds of live performances that will absolutely leave you speechless with their talent. And it only gets more and more impressive as you follow them through their career. They have accomplished a lot in the past 15+ years, and they are one of the groups that made Kpop what it is today. However, if you want to see where SHINee truly shines, you have to see their live performances. SHINee are now known for the fact that there are no longer any fixed roles in their group. The main vocalists can rap, the rappers can fill in as main vocalists, and they are all impressive dancers. SHINee are some of the most well-respected artists in the industry. Onew (Pronounced Oh-New in English or On-New with a Korean accent, real name Lee JinKi) is currently 33 -- the one with the amazing high notes and the colorful outfit -- is the leader of the group and he has one of the most unique voices in the industry. (Onew means, or sounds like, the Korean words for soft or gentle, so he was given his stage name because he has a very calm and gentle personality.) He is one of the most coveted male voices, that all other singers dream of getting a chance to collaborate with. His vocals are unmatched. He even holds the record (40+ seconds) for the longest continuous note without changing tone or pitch. SHINee are a 5-member group, with 4 active members. You only saw Onew in part of the "Hard" MV because, unfortunately, he is currently on hiatus due to his health. He went on hiatus in the middle of filming the MV, and wasn't able to participate in the rest of the shoot. It was announced June 9, when Onew was hospitalized for a short time, that he would take a doctor recommended rest. Therefore, he hasn't participated in any of their activities since then. Key (real name Kim Kibum, pronounced Key-bum, which is why his stage name is Key like the key to a door.) currently is 32 -- in the suit with the shorts/ the pink fuzzy shirt -- is our fashionista of the group who is SHINee's stylist for a lot of their MVs and stage outfits. He is an amazing singer and is a sub-rapper in the group. (Notice how Key was singing through his clenched teeth in the last part of the song when they were all dressed in black. And he still sounded perfect while giving off the "Hard" vibes that the song required. Just one of the many unique elements of this song that only SHINee can pull off.) He is also considered SHINee's dance copy machine. Key has the ability to see and remember choreography the fastest in the group. And he is SHINee's fluent English speaker -- he is almost as good as a native speaker -- one of the best non-native English speakers in Kpop. Minho is currently 32 -- the one with the red jacket with the epaulets -- is the main rapper and the visual of the group, but his vocals are also some of the best in the industry. Minho sings just as much as he raps. He also writes most of his own raps in SHINee's songs. Minho is a top actor, and he has starred in numerous dramas and movies, starting way back in 2011. When not promoting with SHINee, he is almost always on the set of his latest drama or movie. And, Taemin is now 30 -- the blond -- is considered one of THE BEST dancers in the industry (one of the top 2 best dancers of all dancers in Kpop), and that's not just by fans, but by everyone in the industry, including his peers. Taemin's nickname is the Korean Michael Jackson. He is also one of the most popular male solo artists, and he is a member of the Kpop supergroup SuperM. Taemin truly is art when it comes to his performances. Although Jonghyun wasn't in the MV -- because he passed more than 6 years ago now -- in order to get to know SHINee, you have to get to know him as well. He is known as one of the best vocalists in Kpop, whose voice was unmatched. He also was one of the most prolific songwriters and composers of his generation. Jonghyun wrote and composed almost 40% of SHINee's songs, plus he wrote all of his own solo songs and numerous songs for other artists. He was one of the only SM artists to be given complete artistic control over his work, including several of SHINee's song selections. He was extremely respected within the industry as a songwriter, composer and singer. He was one of the very first Idols to be known for his songwriting and composing skills. Once you get to know their voices, you will always be able to pick them out of a crowd just by the sound of their voice. Most fans will tell you we know who is speaking or singing within 1 second, even with our eyes closed, with them standing in a crowd of screaming fans. All 5 of their voices are that unique -- there is no one with a voice like any of theirs. That is why they are "The Princes of Kpop".

Yup.. indeed! The only thing constant with SHINee is the beautiful wonderful vocals. And yeah.. SHINee have five members, they became 4 physically in 2017 but they still is a five member group, nd the6 refer to themselves as that. During Hard MV filming, member and leader Onew got on hiatus coz of health reasons. We are still waiting for his healthy return till now.

Because Taemin is also a member of SuperM, I think SHINee's "Don't Call Me" MV and Fake Reality teaser is SM's way of drawing SHINee into the SM Universe and fully connecting SHINee to SuperM's/EXO's storyline. Hence, Minho's red hair and the red room with the chairs hanging from the ceiling. I think this might be connected in some way to the Red Force -- which is the evil group or being in EXO's storyline -- and EXO's/SuperM's storyline. Although I have not worked out what it all means yet. (In EXO's storyline when we see red objects or red light this usually means this is something being controlled by the Red Force.) Therefore, most of SM's groups have storylines that connect. For example, I see connections between EXO, SuperM, aespa and SHINee with the fact that we see SuperM riding on a subway train in their "100" MV and we see aespa in the subway in their debut "Black Mamba" MV, and now we see SHINee also in a train station in "Don't Call Me." And most recently, we saw Baekhyun from EXO/SuperM on an old train in his solo "Bambi" MV. We even see Kai from EXO/SuperM on train tracks and people on a subway train platform in his "Film: Kai" solo debut teaser video during his "Amnesia" section of the video and as it transitions to "Mmmh." We also see Key from SHINee in a subway train in his solo debut "One of Those Nights" MV. And if we go back even further, you see EXO on train tracks in their "Love Me Right" MV and EXO-CBX (which Baekhyun is also a member of) on train tracks in their "Horololo" MV, etc. The train station/subway platform in "Don't Call Me" also is given a very futuristic EXO-like feel with the view of space and the planets in the sky when you see SHINee dancing on the train platform. The scene with Key in the red outfit standing on the phone booth submerged in water, looks like it could have something to do with the Red Force as well. And it also looks very similar to the scene with Taeyeon, from Girls' Generation, standing on the rock in the middle of the Ocean in Key's solo "Hate That ..." MV. Taeyeon is even wearing the same color red dress, in "Hate That ...," and both Key and her have very similar styles and poses. And now, it also looks like this could be connected to SHINee's new "Hard" MV storyline, with Minho standing on the rock wearing a red jacket, with a vibe very similar to this as well. We also see in "Don't Call Me," Key dressed in his black outfit with the feather headpiece standing in front of the image of himself standing on the phone booth, which looks as though this could be showing him in an alternate reality -- or a "fake reality." Then in the next scene, it looks as though the SHINee members go through some sort of wormhole as they are teleported somewhere and we see them all posing in their black outfits. This looks very similar to the scene in SuperM's debut "Jopping" MV. When the SuperM members are coming together at the beginning of "Jopping," they are each teleported through space, which looks very similar to that scene with the black wall with stars in "Don't Call Me." Therefore, because the members of SuperM are supposed to be coming together to help EXO fight the Red Force and to prevent or stop them from taking over the world, etc., I think SM is setting it up so that all of its groups' members will eventually be brought into the fight. If you follow EXO's storyline, in EXO's "Obsession" MV we learn that the good guys are the members in the all-black outfits, and in "Jopping" we see SuperM's "Avengers uniform" is similar all-black outfits. So, in the scene in "Don't Call Me," when we see SHINee all together in those black outfits, it looks as though they might be preparing to join in the fight. That is why I think that even though SHINee are part of the second generation, that SM is now working on bringing them into the storyline. And although most of SM's older groups' concepts and MVs may have never been originally designed to have any type of connection to anything, that doesn't necessarily mean that over the years as EXO's story has evolved or SM's Universe concept was being created, that SM didn't find "happy coincidences" within those MVs that allowed them to use them as a way to connect things together. I mean, we see what looks like the pink planet from Super Junior's "House Party" MV and a scene from Super Junior-K.R.Y.'s "When We Were Us" MV from 2020 in "aespa's ep.1 - SM Culture Universe" video. And SM has even brought Kangta, who is a member of the very first Kpop boy group H.O.T., which debuted in 1996, into the storyline with his solo MV remake of H.O.T.'s song "Free to Fly," which looks like they are on another planet in the MV and it featured Winter from aespa and Sungchan who is a former member of NCT, now a member of SM's new boy group RIIZE, in the story. Changmin from TVXQ was also brought into the story in 2022 with his song "Devil," as the MV shows him on a pink planet and he talks about Kwangya in the song lyrics. And even more recently, BoA, who is a solo artist, became a villain within aespa's storyline. And U-Know from TVXQ's new "'Nexus', Reality Show" teaser video is centered around a futuristic world where he spends a lot of time within the virtual realm with Karina from aespa playing an AI character that helps U-Know.

You probably already know by now, that jonghyun has passed away, and just wanted to ask if you could react to “From now on”, it’s a live performance from their first concert after his death and the song was dedicated to jonghyun. It’s a very great and sad song, that many people don’t know about.
