Their song that I keep pitching to reactors is 'Even in the quietest moments', my favorite STP song, very soulful and takes you on an inward journey!

That's Doug Helliwell On Sax, Tasha..He played all..Tenor, Alto, Baritone, Clairnet and Flute, Also pitched in on keys and back-up vocals as well. All the sax players I met over the years as a musician knew who he was and loved him. I can't give Supertramp enough props for the beauty and creativity of their sound--It was so ear-catching different from all the other bands!

The jyrics in this one are so smart, and fit together so well; definitely one of their best. I also like 'Breakfast In America' (and no, it's not just because they employed a tuba), and my favorite has to be 'Take The Long Way Home,' which is extremely evocative for me: I can clearly picture the protagonist walking alone from lamplight-to-lamplight in a deserted park on a windy, drizzly October night.

"Please tell me who I am". Magical youth to logical adult. I think you need to be the logical adult when necessary and also keep that magic of exploring new things. I have an uncle that is 82 and still has that curiosity about things. I believe that is a big part of why he is doing so well. We all are still that kid we were inside. Great song and album. Long live the sax and brass instruments in general.

As an older person, who knows the UK, this song talks about the British upper class and how they send their children away to boarding school. Any personality and independence they have are soon hammered out of them to make them fit into the little square conservative box that is going to be their British upper-class life.

You don’t have to be upper class to go to boarding school in the uk. Just have money. Unlike the US, ‘class’ is not money based in the uk. A working class trillionaire lottery winner could never be upper class in the uk.

Roger Hodgson was sent to away to boarding school for ten years, like many young British middle & upper class boys. He's said that it was a brutal experience for him being a shy, sensitive, child. This was written when he was in his late teens, way before joining Supertramp. Be sure to check out any live versions of their songs on KZbin especially Live in Paris 1979.

I'm 59. I had heard this song a thousand times or more since it came out way back when. In 2017 though, this song (and a couple other things) caused my life to transition; it was as if I had never heard the song before! When it got to the lyric part "please tell me who I am" at the end, I literally had a spiritual experience that was so profound it inspired me to change my name and completely changed my cosmological view of life! Many other things happened in my world and let's just say the most significant of these was an ongoing experience that is represented by my YT channel name (that's a hint). If you're interested you can make to my channel to see my content and you'll find a 2-part documentary I made which describes the whole vibe. So yeah, this song is kinda a big deal for me. Thanks for posting your reaction! Peace

I love Supertramp and I love this album, but why so many people are blown away by this particular song is beyond me. The whole album is great, but I wouldn't even put this track in the top 5. @@kentclark6420 - yeah this album spawned multiple hits but my favorite is still "Child of Vision". I was there, bought the album the minute it came out, played it endlessly for weeks and saw them live during the tour. Maybe it is because it was so overplayed that it fell from my favor?
