Thank you for, once again, reacting to our Taeminnie! For some inexplicable reason, Taemin gets a lot of hate. Just look at the down votes that always seem to appear on his MVs. It truly is people with small minds who just can't reconcile, comprehend, or admit that Taemin is in a league of his own; he can't be defined, and his artistry can't be touched. I like the black/white suit which seems to represent the duality of his personality, or that nothing is "black and white". In other words, don't spout off about what you know nothing about. Also, I took the small room and large Taemin as either him saying, "I'm too big to be confined to your small mind", or "Your pea-brain can't contain me". The car crash I see as him saying, "Watch me smash your idea of me...like when he says "Push my buttons...I'll show you the end." and "You'll never get the keys of my lock" In other words, haters will never reach inside him. Taemin does things "my way". He doesn't follow Kpop trends; he makes them. Let's face it, Taemin is much bigger than just Kpop. As music critic Youngdae Kim said, ""He [Taemin] is one of the most unique and exemplary solo artist among all Korean music scenes." From "The Artist: Taemin". Taemin has a very big heart and loves everyone, but I'm glad he did this masterpiece because I hate to see him get hurt by little minds with nasty words.

I feel like Taemin, as an artist, when you see the progression of his work, is saying-- you try to put me in your box...fine, I will own it, renovate it, redesign & redefine it. Recreate it to my own ideals, w/my own colors until it suits me. I invite you to join me, but first you need to knock down the walls of your own sad little box to do it.

It's the first time for me that my favorite artist will go to military and I am kinda sad because SHINeee was just reunited. But we are so lucky to get a mini album before he leaves! You guys are spot on!!!!Taemin is an absolute icon in the world right now. Such a shame he will be out of the fray for 18 months:( I wish I had shared him with you. I knew Taemin since he debuted in Shinee and I have watched his growth and feel proud he has grown and is growing into such an amazing performer and blurring those lines that are so difficult to achieve especially in his country. He is 2nd Gen Kpop pedigree and way ahead in my opinion of many new groups and solo artists. In fact all of the members of Shinee are awesome- - Dennis you would love Onew's vocals. Love your reaction as always - I was mesmerised by our Taemin's performance here.

So glad I stumbled across this video! I agree with a lot of what you guys said! As you asked, and one of the commenters here mentioned, Taemin has always got a lot of hate. When he was younger people would talk about how feminine and un-manly he looked and he actually went through a phase where he tried to act overly masculine, but that got him hate too. These days he just acts like himself and has come to embrace that more androgenous style he has going on with himself as well as with the dancing and clothing, which of course.. gets him hate too :) I think you are right in that this song is telling the haters their words aren't meaningful to him and they aren't going to contain him or box him up into what 'they' think he should be, and the more they do it the more he is going to rebel against it and show who he really is. He said recently this song would close this chapter of his life before military so I really think he's just saying he's done with y'all and is just gonna do things his way from now on :)

I've already watched quite a few reactions to this MV and you guys are the first who really discussed the meaning of the lyrics and imagery, so I was like 'finally'. Especially since I completely agreed with your interpretation :) Some background info on tattoos: Korea is traditionally very against tattoos. It relates back to a Confucian principle of preserving the body your parents gifted you. Today you are still not allowed to show tattoos on TV in Korea (like if it's tiny or it peeks out of your shirt by mistake, no big deal, but if you have a tattoo sleave, you always have to wear long sleeved shirts). Weirdly though, fake tattoos are totally fine, so many kpop artists have done MVs and even TV appearances where they appear as if covered in tattoos. In Taemin's recent MV's Criminal and Idea, where he wore a cropped top, he had bandages covering his hip tattoo. In this MV, he is showing his real tattoos openly for the first time in some scenes, but sort of disguising it with all the extra fake tattoos in other scenes. I feel like that is both commenting on the silly censorship law and also relating to the lyrics: "I destroy the torso that you were chasing after".
