The fact that Slade on top of being an assassin is also a pedophile and willing to sleep/groom a child just to get payback on a bunch of teens is some despicable s***. Judas Contract is regarded as the best Teen Titans storyline from the comics and it deserves it, I think this is a pretty solid adaptation of the storyline. The fight choreography in this movie is also really good. I like how they explored Terra's moral conflict with betraying the Titans and her love for Beast Boy. Even though I am more of fan of Garfield and Raven together I really like how well they've written the relationship between Raven and Damian in this animated line up of DCAMU movies. The original Judas Contract arc in the 80s comics was DARK. Like, every adaption they do of that story arc since has been greatly toned down because of how dark that original comic run was. And to be honest, its incredibly creepy too. PS: I don't think Blue Beetle has a proper solo animated movie but if you want to see him get some incredible love, may I recommend the 2023 live action movie? It both serves as a really solid Origin Story for general audiences but it also pays a lot of love to the characters' legacy with some fun references here and there.

Despite being pretty laid back, Beast Boy actually has one of the saddest backstories having lost two families. His parents were nature conservationists who were murdered by poachers in Africa. He then went to live with his godmother who was Elasti-Girl from the Doom Patrol and they become his adoptive family until they were all killed on a mission. The Teen Titans are his 3rd family and while having every right to be another brooding type, he chooses to look on the positive side of life. That's original comic book canon, of course, but is not necessarily how things went down in this movie's continuity.

I think sometimes just enough exposition works. The reason why Bruce's Parents scene became a meme is because not only was there a period of seeing the backstory repeatedly due to all the different stories we were getting at the same time, but also because it was usually a full on dedicated scene. Whether intentional or not, it came off as overused. Using this universe for instance, we don't really get a scene outside of Flashpoint which takes a different approach, all we get is Batman just talking to Green Lantern about it and that's it, because it's an important part of his character, just not something we need to see. Otherwise by not acknowledging, you end up with cases like MCU's Spiderman where it came off as if Ben Parker didn't matter and it was all about impressing Iron Man.

8:09 this guy in the comics is called Jericho and while I’ve no clue about his modern day origin, originally he was Slade Wilson’s son who was born with the power to “hop” between bodies and possess them. In the comics, Jericho possessed his father after his own death and used Slade to go on a rampage against his former teammates the Titans. One scene that’s particularly visceral is when he lures Kid Flash (then Impulse) into a prison as Kid Flash thinks he’s stopping a prison riot. Jericho in Slades body hits him with a powerful tranquilliser that he tells to Kid Flashes face his metabolism would burn it out in a minute flat. He then tells Kid Flash to tell the rest of the Titans “kids shouldn’t wear masks” before putting a 12-gauge to his kneecap and blowing it off.

It has been retconned so many times that it being retconned has been retconned into her backstory as an inherent part of her identity. I don't think it would actually be possible to adapt her story in the concise format of one of these movies, because there wouldn't be time to touch on everything, and leaving anything out to, let's say, focus on just one of her backstories and ignore the rest would go against the essence of the character. Their only chance would be a movie that makes her contradictory backstories into a mystery for the team to solve, or something.

As much as I appreciate the adaptations of The Judas Contract, I still wish the initial story wasn't written, or at least not canon. Because that arc took one of the coolest anti-villains ever made, so cool Rob Liefeld essentially made his own version for Marvel, and turned him into a creep needlessly. And trust me, he does more than just grooming in that storyline, it comes out of nowhere and as originally written had essentially no sympathy for Terra. Like Deathstroke pre and post Judas Contract is simultaneously cool and funny, sympathetic and hateable. But for this one comic he becomes a Certified Loverboy out of nowhere, so Deathstroke never has his true characterization outside of comics because this storyline is in everybody's minds when adapting. It's like if we were never able to get a true Kevin Conroy-esque Batman adaptation because all the writers were thinking to the infamous Frank Miller's All-Star Batman, so all Batman animated projects or live action movies made him a child beater who gets turned on by ultra-violence.

One of the few DC animated movies that doesn't set Nightwing up just to be beaten up later, mostly, in the comics he's beaten Deathstroke 1v1 a ton of times, including in sword combat, and also turned his daughter in a hero. Slade hates Dick, but also respects him massively, which only adds to why he hates him. You know the Judas Contract from the Teen Titans show, but the movie goes a different way - mainly because the lineup is different and it has to fit the universe's continuity - with Brother Blood as another antagonist, though the very much rightfully ignored in the tv series ick of Terra and Slade is here for this edition. Terra did get more trauma to show why she'd align with Slade though, but this time she does properly die. That is Wonder Girl, aka Donna Troy. She's sorta the Robin equivalent to Wonder Woman since she was made when the Titans were deemed the 'Sidekick team'. Her origin has changed a lot, to the point that it's kinda a meme; sometimes she's an Amazon, sometimes empowered by magic enhancements, sometimes the Greek Titans enhance her because of her bloodline. Think currently she was made out of clay (one of Wonder Woman's old origins) to be a weapon against Wonder Woman and the Amazons intercepted the process, gave her false memories to think she was an orphan saved by Diana, and let her choose her own path - albeit one that wasn't a threat to them.

Hey guys! You asked for some non-dcamu movie suggestions, so I’ve got a couple: Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, for some classic superhero shenanigans. If you want to see more of DC’s Trinity or Justice League, I’d suggest Superman/Batman: Apocalypse or Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths ( In both of these, Wonder Woman absolutely cleans house) If you’re feeling adventurous, I’d even suggest Justice League: Gods and Monsters or Batman: Assault on Arkham Just some of my favs, hope you guys are enjoying these movies, love seeing your reactions! :)

One thing that is a mild shame with this movie is that due to the batman side of the DCAMU starting with Damien's Robin we miss out on a key thing about Juda Contract; in the original comic, Dick had just retired as Robin and this was the event in which he debuted as Nightwing.

Yup and this is why Terra and Slade are terrible. Terra is even more sadistic too in the comics aside from the already child adult relationship. The 2000s series really made a better version of this story than the source.
