These are the habits of Filipinos... 1. Pregnant moms sing to her baby while in the womb or mom listen to music while conceiving 2. Born babies sleeps well when you sing a lulllaby or with music 3. Kids in nurseries and kindergardens activities mostly involves singing 4. Children in elementary school starts each day by singing the national anthem 5. Whenver the teachers had emergency meeting or had to leave rhe class for a while, the teacher will leave her class having a program showcasing their talents in the front of the class to keep them busy. The teacher will choose an MC and most of the time students prefer to sing 6. In high school, students bring guitar so then they have vacant time they play the guitar or sing and mostly what happens is a choir singing coz when 1 started to sing everybody will follow.

Yes Sir and Madam, that is considered a normal day in our country. ANYWHERE in the Philippines where theres a karaoke (we commonly call it VIDEOKE tho) you will likely stumble upon "free concerts" like these. From shopping malls and small stores, eateries, bars, someone's neighbor, corporate or family outings, mobile "for rent" units, birthday parties, fiestas, to christmas, to funerals...to even the most remote island of our country. 7 or 8 times out of 10--as long as a machine is available, you WILL hear someone belt out ANY of the hardest "chart-topping" songs in near-perfect fashion. Sometimes even a unique spin to them hehehe As to the "why" most of us can sing these near-perfect songs? It's because we really dont have a "perceived standard" to hold on to. And we mostly do not have any form of vocal training but the countless listening to the original artists, either from local FM Radio stations to Spotify. Radio will never die in our country, and Spotify is just the "modern" listening format for us. Hence theres quite a few that can "mimic" the original artists sometimes. Even without Karaoke, singing just comes naturally for us. From children to adults, if its their favorite song--they'll definately nail it most of the time.

It’s so commonplace here in the Philippines that people don’t even stop to listen anymore. I was the only one paying attention. Gave him lots of applause and then went about my shopping. I think they hired him specifically for his voice because he had a music set up behind the hotdogs he was giving out samples of.
