Back in 2001 when Lateralus was released, I ripped the CD to mp3s (a format that was in its infancy) for convenience. I was so frustrated with the lack of gapless playback at the time that I used a DAW to merge the two tracks together lol Thankfully I discovered foobar shortly after and have been using the same replay gained FLAC files ripped with EAC since. Gapless playback has been my best friend for so long...

I just discovered this song about a week ago. I am a widower, I lost my wife a little over a year ago, so I can really relate to this song especially where he says “a chance to be alive and breathing”. I’ve spent many days in my grief just wanting to die and I literally burst into tears when I first heard that part because it helps me realize I still have a chance to try to enjoy life and make something of it where my late wife no longer has that…so it was tears of hope and grief at the same time…Beautiful song and great reaction video to it!

Wow, you really are a one-band man! I love Tool and they are my favourite band of all time. Pink Floyd and early Smashing Pumpkins (especially Gish, Siamese Dream, and Mellon Collie, but Adore and Machina as well) are two of my other favourites. The Pumpkins fell off after Machina, but those five albums are still a revelation to me. Helmet, Deftones, A Perfect Circle, Rage Against The Machine, and many other bands also fill my time, and that's only the hard-rock music. I've always said you can skim off the top 3% of any musical genre, and you can't go wrong. For instance, Aesop Rock is my favourite hip-hop artist, Tori Amos is my favourite female singer/pianist, and Calibre is my favourite D&B artist. Tool is my favourite band, but I couldn't imagine listening to them as 80% of my whole musical repertoire.

Pretty sure this was the first Tool song I heard. Parabola and a couple others were in a Guitar Hero game and the experience of not just hearing music like this, but experiencing it in the game, was nuts. Tool didn't like the idea of their songs being depicted as played by animated characters, so there was a special "venue" created for whenever you played their songs. It was a trippy, moving series of images and graphic designs similar to the cover art for this album. That, the fact I'm not very good at Guitar Hero, and the nature of Tool's longer, complex compositions made playing through all 3 songs in a row a test of my mind AND body.

Tool’s music invokes feelings of loneliness, helplessness and even anger. But above all, it’s about bringing up feelings of the beauty of humanity. Within the rawness of truth on every song, the prevalent message is always positive. Never undermining what we are capable as individuals and as mankind. I don’t think there’s any other band that tells you “you are but a mere part of the universe and yet you are the most important”. It’s a perfect way to deal with negative feelings “I know the pieces fit cause I watch them fall away”

They have the ability to make you snap out of whatever you're currently thinking or stressing about and just focus on the present. The fact you reacted to this one made my day, thank you Aileen :) First Tool song I ever heard, back in the day when I was going through some very dark times in my life. What can I say, I never fell back into those depths of depression ever again. I was already kinda spiritually inclined (whatever that means anymore), also with Dream Theater being my favorite band of all time I already knew some seriously complex music existed. This one changed everything though. This song just literally blows my mind. Most powerful reminder of the highest universal truth of oneness. There are like a million and a half teachings out there that try to tell you that pain is an illusion and how it's therefor wrong and painful and a prison to be human. And that's what we call spiritual escapism. This song does not do that! Pain is separation, that's what all pain is. It is an illusion, there is no separation. Your heart is my heart, literally. And yet that illusion of separation is what gives rise to life in the first place. Even though it is pain and determinism and ego and loneliness and all of those good things... no individual perspective would ever have been possible without it. Damn, I'd love to just sit down with you for a lifetime or two and talk about this kind of stuff. But for now, youtube's comment section it is! :)

Spot on pretty lady! Tool is a state of mind, they can't be lumped up into any genre. Bands of they're own era and thereafter all stop and listened to the all mighty Tool. Simply put Tool is the best of the best in all phases of music. Tool for all!

Great reaction, I love when people first hear Tool and "get it".

Excellent analysis of TOOL as an EXPERIENCE rather than a band. They really are THE REAL THING !!!

Your reactions to Tool are among my favourite, you get it. There's a dozen I could suggest doing next, but "Invincible" is a great track off their latest.

Tool songs are not really songs, they are journeys. They take you in a ride, with peaks and valleys, serenity and mayhem. You just gotta let go, trust them, and enjoy the journey. When I listen to Tool, I feel calm afterwards, I don't know how to explain it, it's like food for the soul. They are so amazing, at a total different level. There's Tool, and then the rest of the mortals. Lol

How does tools sound manage to be so beautiful, intricate and delicate, while also being powerful, brutal and forceful?! I have never heard a more complete type of music

I loved your yoga comparison, Parabol is like hatha morphing into lyenger then as parabola starts we jump into ashtanga and transition into kundalini. As an Addict in Recovery, this song is so important because it reinforces us to stay the present moment. One day at a time, Just for today. There used to be a great visual video that takes the viewer from earth into the macro expanse of the cosmos and back again to earth and then into a single drop of water which shows the micro cosmos within that single drop. Vicarious and Right in Two are the opposite sides of the same coin. Hope to hear it soon. Peace and love

Hey Aileen 🖤 !!! I am absolutely loving your Tool journey! I can't describe the sense of excitement I get to see you discovering, appreciating, and fully emersing yourself into the spiritual experience that is Tool. I wish I could go back in time and hear each song again for the first time like you are now! But the joy I get from witnessing how you fall in love with it is just as amazing 😁 Thank you for the great reactions and all the effort that goes into making them. This totally uplifted me once again when I was feeling super down! Thanks! Peace & Love ✌🏼❤️ from Cape Town, South Africa 🇿🇦 Rock On lady! 😌🤘🏻🖤

Alex Grey is one of my favorite artists. I love the album art on this how it basically dissects through the human body as you turn the pages of the booklet

You were 8 years old the first time I saw Tool perform this live(you were 3 the first time I saw them). I’ve seen them perform it two more time over the last 20 years. It never gets old. ❤️
