Sebastian Bach might have been hard to work with, per rumors. But his larger than life presence & gifted vocals were worth working things out. Not taking away other band members’ talent, but He was the core of their music.

Yes, and when Steve Perry quit, at the height of their success, the reason was simply a major, major case of burn-out. Journey and also Steve Perry in solo format were a hit making machine for a while and without a doubt, Steve Perry is an exceptional talent. It's a good band, 80's cliché-ish music done well. Gotta love those 80's, there are real instruments (Journey's lead guitarist is great) but there's tons of synthesizer support and over produced dramatic drums. Journey is good stuff.

You've never heard this classic, well my dear you are in for a special, wonderful music video. Phil Collins is a master entertainer!!! This video is grand, so good!!!! And there is that great smile. ENJOY!!!!!!!! Please note how it appears that Phil is just out for a walk-about. YET, he arrives to his drum kit at the exact correct moment for one of the BEST drum riffs EVER!!!! Everyone in the western world knows this beat. AND have played the air=drums to it!!!! That is a vocoder.... WELL, did you love it????? BYE for now...............

I've been listening to them since the late 70s. This song still brings a tear to my eye. Try "Only the Young" "I'll be alright" "Open Arms" and "Who's Crying Now" Be sure to have some tissues nearby. 🤟

It's even more impressive when you consider that he is not a singer. He took over the role after Peter Gabriel left Genesis to pursue a solo career. I'm also not sure if the song was originally written for it but the way it is performed now it does act as a long build up to that drum hit that he performed when he sat at the kit. It became pretty iconic and Phil, if nothing else, ain't a dummy at marketing. So the drum hit became the crescendo not only for the song but for the concerts.

Everyone should do themselves a favor (especially true of new listeners) and go buy Journey's Greatest Hits. Listen to the whole thing. There's no filler. 😉

To wit of your comment of us putting ourselves in their shoes. On the contrary, with this song they reached out, pulled us in, and shoved us in their shoes...and we were blessed to feel every note of it in the very pit of our hearts. SO many more Journey songs you should do. But don't let Steve Perry's solo song "Foolish Heart" get away from you. You'll never forgive yourself. Love your videos.

Aileen, you are going to love this rabbit hole. All great voices and they all sing lead depending on the song. People can agree/disagree but my picks. Best cover - End of The Road, Best solo - When a Man Loves a Woman, Best arrangement - Do YOu Hear what I Hear, fun - Butts Remix, my faves: One Man Band, Bless this Broken Road, Snow Globe?, best overall song. Mayday ,but save it for later. I could have listed a dozen more, they never disappoint.

This song will always be in my top ten list. The raw emotion and honesty, the pain and joy are unmatched. It also has special meaning to those of us who spent so many years deployed to combat zones far from home.
