I really enjoyed your reaction-thanks for coming back to Voice Play! This is an old Irish folk song going back to the 1600's that has been covered by a lot of different folk singers over the years. Irish rock band, Thin Lizzy, covered it as a rock song in the 1970's and Metallica covered it as a rock song later. Don't worry about enjoying the different styles of both Home Free (Country/Folk) and Voice Play (very theatrical) as many of us Home Fries and Voice Players enjoy both groups. Home Free and Voice Play are actually very close friends since they competed against each other on the "Sing Off" in 2013 and toured together on the "Sing Off" tour after the show ended. They are very supportive of each other despite their different styles and approaches to acapella music ( Voice Play's Geoff Castellucci (bass singer) helped Home Free with their arrangement of "Elvira" with the Oak Ridge Boys and Voice Play's Layne Stein (beatboxer) helped Home Free with their arrangement of "Butts Remix"). There is a fun collaboration of Home Free and Voice Play together from the "Sing Off" tour that you would love- "Survivor: Zombies Vs Hillbillies (it is hysterical- please react to it).😃 You would also love Voice Play's "Valhalla Calling" and "In The Air Tonight"!

Both Voice Play and Geoff always put a smile on my face. Geoff's latest drop, Wicked Game, has some of the most beautiful low notes I've ever heard. It's not just that they are VERY low, but that his tone is gorgeous.

What a lovely reaction - as you can see they do it all themselves 😉. Such a lovely group of people. As usual they made it their own - and for the first time I paid attention to the lyrics!!! 🌹🕊

Yes, Geoff, the bass, has a voice that is naturally this deep. Bass voices only account for 5% of the male population... and I happen to be one myself.... my voice is slightly deeper than Geoff's; he just sings better than I could ever dream of. However, Geoff also has a 5 octave vocal range, as well, so he can sing higher than even most tenors, too.

I’m so old that I remember this from Peter Paul and Mary. It took a few times listening before I finally figured out where I had heard it before. Geoff will frequently insert a “ y’all” or “c’mon” when he’s singing. He was originally from Virginia before moving to Orlando and a lot of his solo channel releases have a nod to those roots. The guest artist this time was Omar Cardona (in the center) , who appeared on The Voice last year and made it up to the semi finals. He is Cesar’s best friend and occasional roommate. (Cesar is to his right). To see him again I would suggest their cover of Aerosmith’s Dream On and their cover of Dragonborn/Skyrim from the video game. Thank you for reacting to them so quickly. Since you are a fan of Home Free, you should know that they both appeared on season four of the Sing Off, which Home Free won. They went on tour together after the season ended. If they had ever competed directly against each other, they were going to be performing the song Survivor. They became fast friends while on the tour and decided to cover that song anyway. They filmed in two different locations because they live in two different areas and spliced it together. It made a very interesting video. You can find it under the song name or under “Hillbillies vs Zombies”. Guess which is which😂😂. It was filmed quite some time ago and their vocal talents have really expanded since then, but it’s a great video. It’s just a whole lot of fun. Because VoicePlay was required to add a female singer when they appeared on the show, they included her in this video. They were pretty heavily made up so probably the only person you’re going to recognize is Geoff because of his voice.🧟🤠🧟♀️🐴

Both of the pieces you've reacted to from Voiceplay have been arrangements done by Geoff. Try In The Air Tonight, Layne did that arrangement. They have been swapping months for arrangements with Eli (pronounced ellie), the bald tenor doing a few. He will be arranging more frequently going forward. Try his arrangement of Eleanor Rigby, it is amazing!

Thanks for the reaction. I'm glad you caught the ending and was able to answer your own question about Geoff's speaking voice. He had a few tutorials and Narates a few stories along with creating amazing videos over on his Solo Channel. A few songs I recommend watching from Voiceplay are Hoist the Colours Drunken Sailor Golden Hour We're Good From Geoff's Solo Channel Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold I See Fire 16 Tons Big Bad John Looking forward to your next reaction 😊

I am so happy you returned to Voiceplay so quickly! This was another great reaction. The song is a folksong originating in the 18th century they think. It was covered by Thin Lizzy and the Irish Rovers among others so there are a lot of very different versions and I love that VP did such a great job at paying tribute to the other version but still making their cover unique. Hope you continue to react to VP. You should check out their collaboration with Home Free called Survivor (Voiceplay vs. Home Free). kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4rdqK2Yprp9js0

Listen to their version of Drunken Sailor. Geoff actually wrote a bridge for the song. Well done. And don't forget to check out Geoff Castellucci's channel, too!

This one goes back to the 1650s which was the middle of the Irish/British war. Note: when you get to the end of VoicePlay or Geoff solos video, check the amount of time left because they may say hi, show some of the back stage, etc. Drunken Sailor is very much that way as is Geoff's "Jack's Lament". This year they were working on a mini video outside the studio, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, and were having so much fun that Layne (who was the project boss) extended the time to full-length. It is fun. Geoff did Wicked Game (Chris Isaak) a week ago and VoicePlay just did Sleeping in the Cold Below (Warframe).

You want a collab? Take a look at Voiceplay vs. Home Free - Survivor. But if you'd like a seriously big collab, take a look at Voiceplay's "Just sing". Just be sure to turn on the subtitles for that one.

Just Sing was produced in the first months of Covid as a fundraiser for musicians who had been out of work. It features about 15 to 20 of prior collaborators. They have always enjoyed featuring guest artists and a lot of the artists they show on that particular video they met while performing on the Sing Off. Each of the singers was given their part and required to film themselves which was apparently not easy for some of them. I recently watched the behind-the-scenes on how they did it and it was pretty interesting. There will be a guest that you will recognize😉.

Please react to VoicePlay In the Air Tonight by Phil Colins their cover. It is amazing. They don’t fit into one genre of music. The core of the group has been together since 1997, so working on tour, on the stages around Orlando, putting out music during the crisis that kept everyone at home for two years, it makes for an eclectic mix of music 😊

It’s not uncommon for a member of one group to go feature with another group…Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix ft with Home Free in Ring Of Fire, Tim Foust from Home Free ft with The Bass Gang, Kirstin Maldonado from Pentatonix ft with Vocative, Rob Lundquist of Home Free ft with Voice Play and so did Tim in another song. They all are known to each other.
