I was a convert in 2014. I had been studying Christian apologetics from Apologia and AO ministries with Dr. James White. Missionaries met with my (then fiance, now wife) and wanted me to meet them. I was so eager to debunk them. We had a contentious meeting and they left me with a copy. I went into it with the intention of debunking it. By Mosiah, I called the missionaries and wanted to be baptized! This book will change your life and bring you closer to Christ if you desire. Good luck on your journey. ❤

@@ChrisTheCasualreading both books is a great idea! I love reading both books everyday. The Bible is a miracle and as you just read in the intro, the Book of Mormon is too. Each book was written anciently by prophets, and these golden plates (part of which were sealed) were painstakingly kept safe over hundreds of years then treasured up “in the ground” to be translated by an “unlearned” man. Joseph Smith Jr. was a simple farm boy obtained only 3 years of schooling because of his family’s poverty he had to work throughout his youth. All of this was prophesied anciently in one of the books of the Bible, Isaiah chapter 29.

There is a special spirit in the Scriptures.. especially the Book of Mormon. I love reading it. It is inspired by God. It's purpose is to bring everyone to Christ. He is our Saviour and where we receive Salvation. The reason the Book of Mormon is so special is because it's so clearly focused on teaching us of Christ and bringing us to him. 30 times before you turned 19?? That’s amazing and good for you! I read it on and off from 12-18 yrs old. I read it cover to cover when I was 19 and was 100% convinced on my own and through the Holy Ghost that what it contained were truly words from ancient times on the divinity of Jesus Christ and his dealings with people from the new world vs the Bible which were his dealings with people from the old world. Good stuff! Thanks for sharing.

The guys on the Stick of Joseph channel keep track of every "anachronism" the Anti crowd have accused the Book of Mormon of containing. They said recently that since 1830, enemies of the Church have published lists that amount to around 200 unique items. Over the last decades, however, archeologists and historians have slowly debunked point after point, and we're left now with around 30 that have not yet been disproven. But it's only a matter of time. The more the World tries to bring it down, the stronger the Book of Mormon stands.

Back in 1976 after reading the BoM I was told by a couple of Baptist ministers from the church I went to when I first started seeking Jesus, " don't trust your feelings". So I had to make a decision, is it true? What are feelings? We must learn to discern between truth and error. Nobody can do it for you. I made that choice. Today I still feel the same. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only church that has the Gospel of Jesus Christ in it's Fullness. Other churches are good and have some of the teachings of Jesus. If a person lives those teachings he/she will be led to the fullness of the Gospel. Those are my feelings and beliefs.

Well, your ministers are kinda right. Jeremiah 7:19 says that our hearts are wicked. But also, the Book of Mormon in no way contains the fulness of the gospel because it leaves out key doctrines that are essential for exaltation according to LDS beliefs. Those aren't elaborated until JS later books and teachings.

@@dougstaker2934 Right, like the two disciples on the way to Emmaus in Luke 24--they knew they had walked with the risen Lord, not because they recognized him, but because "their hearts burned within them". This is the same phenomenon we see in Acts 2, when the multitudes at Pentecost were "pricked in their hearts". As you say, our own feelings can be deceitful, but when the Holy Spirit testifies to us of truth it is unmistakable, and (since God is a perfect communicator) cannot be misunderstood.

@ChrisTheCasual You're going to see a lot of ex Mormons speak poorly of the church. Missionaries that go out and never really had a testimony are going to fail. They go home because they choose to or get in trouble while serving. What I find sad is how hateful and bitter they become. Doesn't make the gospel of Jesus Christ wrong. Missionaries from other religions go home for many reasons. Also note that there is a profit for some of these antics. They rake in the donations and youtube profits from their misconceptions about the Mormons (as they call us). There is opposition in all things. I think the stronger towards the truth, the greater opposition from the counterpoint (Satan, evil) And no one has the same companion for 2 whole years! They rotate about every 4 months.

How many NPD people it produces. My mom was a lot like Ruby Franke, and Jodi Hildebrandt's and Ruby Franke are semi common within mormon homes. Hey Chris. I got Baptized in 2020. My thesis on the Latterday Saints is this... you got a bunch of Imperfect People trying to do their Best, and that includes myself, but it is not to uphold some superficial standard of Cultural Conformity. As far as that aspect of Culture in any Group you, might as well put it on the Altar and Burn it. Wearing a Suit doesn't make you God's Man of Faith, and Power. None the Less a few years ago as an Evangelical Christian I received a Witness of that Book, and more importantly the Plan of Salvation. I wasn't pre-programmed to know what I would feel when I read it, and I had no intention to ask God if it was True, but a certain series of Conditions arose in my Heart, and Mind over the course of a Few Months after visiting Utah, and met a Friend who told me about his Church, which I asked my wife to read Lehi's Vision, and she became very angry, and called it essentially lower then dung, and had previously threatened to divorce me if I ever met with Missionaries, so I didn't, and I said. "How do you know if you have never read it?" and I didn't know what was going to happen next, but sure enough it is the same experience, and very Personal circumstances that others have told me was the witness they have received. So in any case Chris I wish you well in your reading of The Book of Mormon. I think there is upon occasion members to be found that are of the inclination to be Superficial, and to blend in, and look down upon others who don't fit into their Mold, but that said. The Book of Mormon is not at Fault in fact it condemns such behavior throughout the Text. God is no Respecter of Persons. "Doctrine, and Covenants 38. 26 For what man among you having twelve sons, and is no respecter of them, and they serve him obediently, and he saith unto the one: Be thou clothed in robes and sit thou here; and to the other: Be thou clothed in rags and sit thou there-and looketh upon his sons and saith I am just? 27 Behold, this I have given unto you as a parable, and it is even as I am. I say unto you, be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine. 28 And again, I say unto you that the enemy in the secret chambers seeketh your lives. 29 Ye hear of wars in far countries, and you say that there will soon be great wars in far countries, but ye know not the hearts of men in your own land." If somebody joins this Church and their Goal is to aspire to fit some superficial Mold, and expect others to do the same then they really need to Harken back to the Book which brought them to the Restoration. Yet we all need to be One in Jesus Christ. Your not my Brother conditionally. You are my Brother because we have the Same Father, and the Same Path we must Travel Home, and Jesus Christ stands at the Door. PS Naruto Rules!

@@ChrisTheCasual A Few years Ago Chris a Young Navajo Man was Baptized in our Ward. When we confirmed him I was kinda following what my Bishop was doing seeing as Id never participated in a Confirmation before. My Bishop put his Left hand on his Right* Elbow. There were Four of us, and we followed suit. A few years later I come across this channel. Navajo Traditional Teachings, and I start reading about The Speaker of Peace, The Holy People, the Dineh. The Yei Bi Che. How this Speaker of Peace has 12 feathers on his Head representing the 12 Men who are called. "The Men who Bring Peace in the Home." the Coyote which is to represent the 5 Fingered Being in this ceremony sometimes will do what the 12 Feathered Dancers are doing in relation to the Holy People, but often deviates from the Pattern. In the Center of this Ceremony is the same Symbol we made during that Young Navajo Man's Confirmation. It is also essentially similar to what the Church Handbook says which is to put your Left Arm on the right shoulder of the person standing next to you. The Message however, and Meaning is the Same, "Unity" and this was not Cultural Appropriation because it can be found throughout the whole World Anciently, and in Present Day displayed openly in some Countries. So Perhaps the Question that should be asked is "How is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints the Only True Church on the Earth?" If you want a really Good Channel on this Subject id suggest reviewing a Channel Called "Temple Light." and even then its not complete, but it captures the essence of Latterday Saint Temple Practices in a Respectful way. @@ChrisTheCasual Depends on what your reffering too. If you referring to Polygamy I think that could be summed up pretty easily in the Book of Mormon in regards to what Jacob says. You could spend years studying that one particular portion. Or perhaps the Priesthood Ban that came to pass in the 1850s under Brigham Young. and in 1978 was lifted. As someone who was not raised a Latterday Saint I think the experiences I had with the Book of Mormon, and other curious events in my Life ultimately became more important too me then all of these other concerns I once had, and I live in North Idaho. Alot of FLDS people up here, and they just don't seem like they are having a Good Time...In fact I know they aren't...Its a Tragedy. But as for the 1978 Priesthood Policy change. Its interesting how this particular aspect was impressed very strongly on my Heart, and initially I saw it from a Purely North American spectrum, but later found out in the 1960s up to that time a Growing Movement of Africans though very small in Number there were African People who read the Book of Mormon as I did, and received the same witness I had received, and were mailing Church Headquarters to find some way. And it wasn't long after that Thousands of people in Africa were Baptized. So last year at a Family Reunion I met this Man who married into the Family. A Good Portion of his Ancestry comes from Africa. And we got onto the Subject of Jesus, and he gave me this kinda dodgy answer, and I said. "Well do you believe in Jesus?" he then opened up too me, and told me that he was an Ex Member of Our Church, and that he was Endowed as a Young Man. For some reason the only thought that I could muster was. "I am really glad that you are Apart of Our Family." So I respect your Concern there, and would like to say that I don't regard any Man as Infallible. Brigham Young none the less did something incredible getting those people to Utah. Even so what does the Book of Mormon say when the Amlicites chose to Mark themselves with Red? And why did Joseph Smith Ordain Elijah Abel to the Priesthood? An Argument that is then made by some Detractors of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints is that Brigham Young was a False Prophet, but even so the question I then have to ask is that if that were True then why is it the Temple Ordinances which were implemented largely through Brigham's Efforts to build Temples hold to Eternal Truths only Found in Glimpses of Historical Christianity today? I've seen the Pattern in an Antiochan Orthodox Church. I've seen it practiced in Ethiopean Orthodox. I've even observed similarties to the Mandaean Masbuta, and other Ordinances that they Practice. But their Teachings say that John the Baptist was the Ultimate Teacher...yet certain patterns uphold between them so am I to simply disregard one of them because their Ancestors rejected Yeshua and they don't know any better? As Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy best put it... "What is the Answer to Life, The Universe, and Everything?" FOURTY TWO. "But what is the Question?!" Come back.... in another 10,000 years....." Haha. Someone that you might find intriguing is a man who used to Teach at BYU that went by the Name Hugh Nibley. There is also another Lecture series about Joseph Smith taught by Truman G. Madsen. As for what is being taught in Temple Ordinances today. The Pattern, and Meaning of the Ordinance hasn't Changed, but sometimes the way its conducted changes, and I haven't found that to be a Problem because the Pattern clearly has been there Anciently, and since the First Endowments, and Sealings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, but if you really want to get down to the Nitty Gritty. The only way such Ordinances have any Meaning, or Purpose is through Jesus Christ, and what it teaches me is Union, The Wedding, The Sea of Glass, and it is only increased by the recognition that most of our time Spent in Temples is about Ordinances for those who no longer have a Body, and more often then not for me at least the people I participate in these ordinances for are not Relatives. In fact most of my Relatives on my Mom's Side had been completed over the past 60 years. I apologize somewhat for jumping around, but in conclusion I'm willing to say that I have shared similar points of View to what you just shared with me, and to be Honest dropped some pretty Hard F Bombs on the subject of Brigham Young, and Joseph Smith during that period of my Life. So I hope my Answer is helpful, and I think it was a Fair Question.

Awesome, dude! The Book of Mormon is the purest word of God ever put to paper, and it’s a wonderful companion book to the Bible! I love that God preserved the records of the ancient prophets of Jesus Christ in America, so that we could read them today and learn more of Christ’s love.

I'm not trying to be rude, but almost all the pro-LDS comments are predictable. I'm thankful for a living prophet, I get a burning in my bosom, god reveals truth to his children line upon line, etc. The probability that 95% the "testimonies" of 13 million members would fall neatly into ten or so categories is statistically unrealistic to say the least. Just seems like a bit of a red flag to me, no offense.

I had a friend bring me the Book of Mormon when I was 18. I was lazy about it, but I go to chapters 12, 13 and I really caught on fire. I remember I was reading chapter 11 in 1 Nephi and a voice came to my head...and I thought it was just me...but the wording was odd now that I think about it. I essentially ask myself, "do you know these things to be true?" I answered, I don't know, but I can't deny them.

I've really enjoyed hearing you read and hear your perspective and comments. You seem like an open minded dude, and I really appreciate that. It's easy to find mockeries and the negativity from people who don't fully understand the church. I was born into the church and have been pretty active my whole life (I'm almost 27 years old) but I've recently went through a faith crisis where I was questioning everything I believed and questioning the foundation of the church, but after doing a lot of research and getting both points of view of people for and against the church, it was revealed to me that nobody could tell me what was true. I had to put in the work to understand for myself, and I found that only God could reveal to what was true. By putting faith in God, so much has been revealed to me, and I'm learning (and still learning) that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true. But, I will continue to question everything just because I'm stubborn and imperfect haha!

The Book of Mormon will change your life for the better. It makes bad men good and good men better. It’s another testament of Jesus Christ. Which means it’s another historical book that proves Jesus lived, died, and rose again. Two witnesses (books, the Bible and the Book of Mormon) proving that our Savior lived and died for our sins. The reason why there’s that bold claim of it, being the most true book of all, is because it was translated by a prophet of God and is not missing anything or mis translated like what has happening to the translation of the Bible and its missing parts or mis interpretation that has been lost or changed throughout history.

Before reading the book of Mormon, research Joseph Smith. Scam artist. Mormonism is not Christianity. They teach in fact, that all Christianity aside from them are wrong. It's a man made cult who contradict the Bible they claim to also believe. Joseph Smith was a fraudulent man who introduced polygamy to justify taking other people's wives of his own. Some of the witnesses to the so called plates ended up recanting about ever seeing them. Joseph plagiarized whole parts of the Bible, and intentionally put the language in the same form of the King James Bible to try and make it as similar as possible. Men of God should be speaking truth and not saying judge for yourself.

That is a very real concern when it comes to giving up some things that you love so much. The good news is that the more one studies the Book of Mormon, the more one grows closer to Christ. Christ can help us overcome any weakness or struggle (Ether 12:27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.) Thanks for choosing to read the Book of Mormon. It truly is the word of God. Even if you don't get baptized, it will still bless your life! May you be a real truth seeker rather than just an opinion follower. Good luck!

You never know unless you try. 😊 We talk a lot about being "yoked" to the Lord Jesus Christ. It means that you don't have to do anything just relying on your own strength. In the Book of Mormon, a king becomes so convinced about the gospel and the saving power of the messiah that he declared that he would give up all his sins to know God! 😊 I think that this mindset is what helps new converts give up vices like cigarettes, alcohol or coffee. They get to a place where they truly believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and they feel like they would give up ANYTHING to know Him better. ❤ Just give it a try and see if you ever get that same feeling. If not, it's okay. I had an adopted grandma who never could give up smoking, but she still went to church and loved it, and we all loved her 😊.

There were actually more than these 11 witnesses. There were a number who felt or lefted the plates. Two who claimed the angel showed the plates to them personally. But the "witnesses" saw them with their "spiritual eyes", aka they were superstitious people who were convinced by JS that what he was imagining was real. These are people who believed in divining rods, magic rocks, and hidden treasures that "sink into the earth" if magic spells weren't done correctly when they were "excavated". When you understand the context of the time and place where the BoM came to be, the formation of this new religion makes a lot of sense.

@@3thingsfishing427 The witnesses who signed their names to their statements insisted - repeatedly - that they saw the plates with their actual eyes. As per the original comment, there were casual witnesses who caught glimpses of them or hefted them. There are several people who promote a naturalistic explanation of the whole thing, who go to great lengths to account for the bulk and heft of the plates as a well-documented object. I find their explanations convoluted, but if their prejudice doesn't allow them to admit anything "supernatural," at least they're taking more of the facts into account.

Here is my testimony of the Book of Mormon: “Nothing is greater than a personal confirmation to your soul that something is true than through the power of the Holy Spirit. Every other sense can be deceived but the surest witness is communication directly from our Heavenly Father to our individual Spirits. It has to be this way. Otherwise, people who do not have the intellectual capacity to analytically “discover” the truths through facts would be greatly disadvantaged and led astray. My personal experience, is as follows: I had a powerful, undeniable personal spiritual experience while reading the Book of Mormon that surpassed everything I had experienced before or since. It was a powerful, transcendent, beautiful, undeniable physical sensation that passed through my whole body and left me with peace, love, light, and profound joy. It let me know that God is very real and approachable. It changed my life dramatically. I can’t deny what I experienced that evening. The Spirit of the Lord communicated directly with my individual spirit to testify of the truthfulness of that book. Everything about that experience brought me closer to Christ and allowed me to experience God’s love in a very personal and sacred way.”

I was a Born Again Evangelical Christian Pastor of the Bethany Church when the Missionaries met me. I questioned them about why God chose white men to be His prophet and Apostle. The Missionaries answered that, i am a Pastor.and i know better than them when it comes to asking God about this matter. The Missionaries ask me if i believe that God will answers prayers. I replied that, the God of Christianitys will answers prayers. But i will not pray to your so called Jesus of Mormons. I was a bit rude unto them by saying them. But the Missionaries having the Spirit of God with them, humbly told me, i know better than them when it comes to prayer. In short, i humbly ask God, the God i knew all my life, before i met the Missionaries, is the same God that answered my prayers. I know with all the energy of my soul, that Prophet Joseph Smith is truly a Prophet of God and the Book of Mormon testifies of the divinity of his work as a Prophet. Im grateful we have a living Prophet today by the name of Russel M Nelson. I sustain him. I know this by the power of the Holy Ghost.

In the 1880s one of the kaumatua (old people) from the town of Cambridge was visited by the Apostle Peter and was told that LDS Missionaries were coming to visit him. He and his family were baptised and was the first Maori to be baptised into the Church. Ive been a member all my life and the Book of Mormon still blows my mind. It is a powerful book and speaks relentlessly of Jesus Christ. Look at the sermon of the Prophet Abinadi and the sermon of King Benjamin. Read the prophecies of Nephi. Enjoy!

Respect, brother, great to see someone with no fear when researching any religion. You're still a Christian if you read the Origin of Species, to understand it and other people's opinions better (for example). If there's truth in it, there's truth in it, regardless of our own personal beliefs. I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints but can't say there is no truth in other Churches, or religions. It's always a good read or conversation, and usually I learn something.

Stick of Judah and Stick of Joseph together will testify of Jesus Christ. ❤ Ezekiel 37:16-17 Good luck on your journey. I never served a mission but I remember taking a missionary prep class and the teacher asked all of us to find a missionary scripture. I found one in Doctrine and Covenants and got up to testify of the scripture. I felt the Holy Ghost testify to me that what I was saying was true. The Book of Mormon will bless your life. It has a lot of hidden treasures in it. You can know who the Lord is more completely.

Fun fact ALL of the witnesses testified up to their death bed and NEVER denied what they saw even those who left the church and never came back. Both the 3 witnesses and the 8 saw the plates. Just the 3 witnesses saw the angel, the plates, and the other objects.

12:00 The Smiths and Whitmers were some of the very few that were connected to Joseph Smith that believed what he was telling them at that time. Some of the others are either also in the 8 witnesses (Page) or the 3 witnesses (Cowdery and Harris). The group was very small at the time and a church had not been formed at the time these statements of the 3 and 8 were written.

Chris, there is a patern set throughout the Bible that I only realised a lot later in life. I am lifelong LDS by the way. In the beginning of Genesis we see God creating everything, and he creates Adam and Eve and they walk and talk with him in the garden of Eden but they fall and are cast out. They have children and they tell their children of God and what happened to them. Its up to each child as to how they act on this witness going forward. The pattern is they see and then they bear witness. Same thing with Noah being instructed to build an ark, Moses seeing God in the burning bush etc. For the sake ot space/time I fast-forward to Jesus asking the disciples who do men say that I am? There are various example given but Peter tells him - Thou art the Christ, the son of the living God! And Jesus tells him that this knowledge was given him of God. It was not 2 plus years of seeing his miracles or hearing his preaching that gave him that sure knowledge, it was not 4 years of study at the university of Jerusalem, it was not the rubber stamp of the Sanhedrin but it was the confirmation that he, Peter, got from God and it was his personal witness of the resurrected Christ that solidified him into the rock who bore strong and fervent witness that Jesus was and is indeed the Son of God. And in like manner we ask anyone to use that same pattern to establish the truth of this very message, you have the witness of the bible that he is and now you also have a second witness, that of the Book of Mormon, that he came to the earth and that he suffered for the sins of the world and took upon himself death but was resurrected because God so loved he world that he gave his only begotten son. Ask the author of all truth wheter or not the Book of Mormon is true and whether what we tell you is true. We testify it is but a more sure word will come from him in which case then it doesnt matter what anyone else says. Good luck and God bless.
