When I was seven my Dad gave me a Savage model 24D in 1963. It was a .410/22. I loved the gun and took care of it as I ventured around the family farm in Virginia. As I grew and used other guns I learned that the Savage actually belonged to my oldest brother who took the gun when he moved out of the house. Many years later I bought an exact replacement of that old model 24D. It holds many happy memories.

The Model 24C Camper was my first rifle. I later sanded the wood and used a torch to highlight the wood and varnished it. 11:56 Then I inlayed the stock with 2 Indian head nickels. Thanks for bringing back memories.

The 24c is a cool version. It carries its value very well! I like that you added the 2 Indian Head nickels. Very cool.

@@daveshsb unfortunately I sold it decades ago. Looking at yours, leaves me with a sense of regret.

When I was 16, my dad gave me his 300 savage, lever action, rotary 6 shot. There was also a 3-9 Leopold scope. I once had taken a 6 point buck at 150 yards on the 1st shot, I loved the accuracy. Wish I still had it, beautiful gun

In the early 70's I bought a savage model 24 s , 22 wmr on top an 20 Guage on bottom. The barrel selector switch is on top of hammeran the button to open barrel is on front of trigger guard. I've still use this gun for just about everything. I saved my paper route money to get it. Like I said I still use this gun an it is in almost new condition

Wow! I love that kind of history behind the Savage 24. Saving your money to get one and still using it today. Well Done! I also like that combo - 22wmr and 20 gauge. Nice set up. Thanks for sharing and watching!

love those old savage utility rifles. I have that same model 24sd .22lr over 410 no serial numbers...firearms made before 1968 were not required to have serial numbers...that was a manufactures option before the gun control act of 1968. I also have a Savage 219L in 22 hornet also with no serial numbers. FYI the earlier 24's had a button on the right side of the frame that selected which barrel to fire but it was prone to breakage. It was replaced with the hammer select spur...a much better design. The model 42 is a modern cheap version. All polymer..not a fan of those but it would make descent truck gun for the farm.

Thanks for sharing. I am with you in loving the older Savage or Stevens utility guns. The 219 is an interesting firearm in its own right for sure! I looked at a 42 in a gun shop. Not overly impressed and I do not like that the barrels are separated. But most likely I will get one just to add to the collection. Thanks for watching!

The first ones did not have the barrel selector on the hammer, it was on the side where your breech lever is . A button that slid up for 22 and down for 410. The switch to open breech was on the opposite side from yours I think.

Yep, I have a 24 D with the selector switch on the side and the lever to open the breech is on the back of the receiver. Not sure why the change but you are right it is quite different. Thanks for watching!!

Yep thanks, just a slip of the tongue from an old man. I did put a text correction in the video that said rifle not range right as I made the mistake. Thanks for sharing and watching
