Had a Restoration Hardware outlet open close to my home around 8years ago. Found the same kind of vibe there. Decor was not enough of a discount to be worth it imo. Purchased one piece of deeply discounted damaged furniture that I still own and love. Think these places shine for the possibility of finding a treasure amongst average items?? This vlog reassured me that I wasn’t alone in these feelings about high end outlets.

When Crate & Barrel first opened in the late 60s in Chicago. They were great deals to be found. It was a couple of steps up from Pier one and appeared to be a more higher end. I got some Beautiful wine glasses there. The large round kind. They were just under two dollars each. We bought nine, an extra one in case one broke. It was quite a splurge as newlyweds.I still have them, all nine. You could get some great deals back then. Now everything is overpriced even at the “outlet“ store.

Hi 👋! I purchased a sofa from wayfair for my new house 2 yrs ago. After waiting 5 months they deliver the wrong color. After a few calls…they said they were going to deliver the correct color but it’s going to take another few weeks. 🤦🏽‍♀️. After seeing the sofa I wasn’t too happy with the material. It looked kinda cheap. Anyway while waiting for the replacement sofa I decided to check out a local outlet mall and I happen to see a C&B outlet store so I decided to check it out. Well the moment I walked in I saw the sofa of my dreams. I quickly went to it and other than a small dent (barely noticeable) on the arm it was perfect. The original price was $2100 and after a few markdowns it was price at $1300. 😮. The Wayfair one was $1800. While sitting on this beautiful sofa of my dreams 😂I immediately called Wayfair to cancel my replacement order. It was meant for me that day. And I’m still in love with it. So I was definitely lucky. Also Wayfair told me to keep the wrong color sofa. I have that one sitting in my sunroom. Win win!

I have a coffee table, a dining table, 2 credenzas, and 2 end tables. People think I have lots of money and it all came from Crate&Barrel …. Opps outlet… 😂Amazing in New Jersey

This happened to Williams and Sonoma my favorite store ever. A little pricey but I loved the store and the quality.Once a year we would go to. Vegas and the highlight for me was the outlet store in State Line.Beautiful stuff and more than half the price of the Mall WS. Knew what I was looking for and knew the prices. Then on the trip about 3 years ago I was shocked at the prices of the Outlet store. Same prices as the Mall WS.I asked the staff , they said WS was losing money so they used the prices! Never went back I was Heartbroken. Same as CB. ALWAYS RIPPING YOU OFF.

We have a C&B Outlet in Asheville NC, but we dont have a regular C&B store. Ive had moderate success with small items at the outlet. I snagged a great deal on a lampshade and a reasonable price on some linen pillows with down inserts. The furniture is mostly too big and too pricey for my taste and budget. A friend lucked out with a great price on some outdoor chairs - no damage at all. Our outlet used to have upholsy fabric by the yard which was a good deal if you were redoing furniture.

There is nothing at C&B that is worth the price. Most outlets buy from discounters, and this is something you would never find in their nondiscount stores. Of course, they will also have their own merchandise. Unless you know the actual price of an item when in the ND store and you see it is the outlet, often the discounted price is taken off of a price that never was.

I've watched C&B over about 30+ years. They seem to carry distinct classes of furniture - some forgettable and/or less well made stuff, some pretty well made stuff, and some crazy expensive stuff. Their aesthetic also evolves and sometimes just shifts. Can't say I'm a fan of their current furniture aesthetic, but I understand the appeal. A nice video tour!

Long-established C&B outlet in Alexandria, VA, near me. Very similar furniture: catastrophic gouges, wonky cabinet doors, stains …. Okay deals to be had, if you’re willing to keep going back (and put in some work). My main gripe is the amount of things that aren’t discounted at all-glassware, notably. Like, they’re counting on you assuming everything is marked down bc it says “Outlet” out front.

Just found your channel bc this video was in my feed, right after we were at a Crate + Barrel Outlet two days ago (solid algorithm, Google)! We went to the location in San Marcos near San Diego and had the same exact perception -- poor quality, poor selection, high prices. Now years ago (maybe as recent as five years ago, let's just say pre-pandemic), Crate and Barrel Outlet Stores were actually much nicer and in better locations. They looked and felt more similar to the actual stores, they had better products at better prices, and the stores were smaller. Since then, they've been shifting to renting cavernous, unimproved strip mall spaces left behind by former big box tenants and just randomly pile in a bunch of crap. Shockingly bad -- until you go to an RH Outlet! That makes Crate and Barrel Outlet look like Rodeo Drive...

Outlet stores are no longer like they used to be when I shopped them in the 90s. They’re no longer discounted good products. They’re overpriced products and a lot of damaged products. Or they’re a regular store just marked as outlet store, where they can sell last season’s products at still high prices.

There's a Crate and Barrel Outlet store near me. It opened more than 10 years ago and I've been there maybe 3x. Bought a total of three Christmas ornaments, a tiny beach chair and a matching umbrella. Everything else was overpriced, broken beyond repair or both. Not sure what gives with these "outlets". A recently closed Bloomingdales Furniture Outlet had the same kind of over-priced, damaged goods (plus mattresses) on their floor. NO one was buying. Like, can't these guys take a loss??!? Mark it down to SELL for goodness sake.

As they say, You went there so I don't have to. Never been to any of these places, they are just not convenient to get to. Never been to Ikea, now have no desire. It is meant to "look good", but no consideration of durability or any practical daily use. None of these vendors have any integrity, if you have a valid complaint, too bad. If I bought a dining table and within the first few weeks, it chipped because I put a plate on it, I would be PO'd. Like the stuff they sell at home Depot, it is meant to only last until you pay for it. There should be some, (however limited) warranty on this junk, against manufacturing defects. Most of their customer base are green activists, but don't see what goes into manufacturing this stuff only to go into a landfill or incinerated in less than a year. Does this increase "carbon footprint" and "climate change"? I stick with vintage as long as I can sterilize it; I figure if something even from the 80's has lasted for over 40 years, it is superior. Too often it is very easy to "update" for very low if any cost. See Kara's channel, "Lemons to Lemonade", and others like her. I understand what to look for to judge the quality of a piece, but they should have to state the materials before you buy. Obviously, most cannot or don't care to assess the probable longevity of furniture, rugs, curtains, etc., and they bank on it. A tabletop made of plaster will not last, but most do not know what plaster is. Thanks you have satisfied my curiosity. I want nothing they sell, even for free.

Haha if I am to go outside of my comfort zone and buy something “trendy” it’ll only be a piece of decor, not furniture. I think a good piece of furniture should be timeless enough so you can constantly change everything up around it and the furniture still works.

I had my time with Crate & Barrel about 30 years ago and it was great then. Way back, C&B sold small kitchen appliances, the better stuff. Today, so much of it seems to be the same stuff furniture wise across all the major retail outlets - a lot of the same stuff. I can see the look of disappointment on your face at the outlet store which looks like a lot of scratch and dent furniture destined for a porn set in some Porn Valley warehouse. There are some excellent finds at C&B if one looks. Glad that I have passed that point in my life. Loved the "Home Goods" comment. So much now is imported from China and other low wage counties. Sad.
