I just got done building my at home shop..... Don't save anything for later.. As you say, buy once, cry once... I have natural gas in my garage, mini-split was also legit. I did 12 gauge electric, outlets every 8ft. Spray foam insulation is clutch especially with how cold it gets up north. I painted my ceilings black, walls white. Amazon has T8 8ft LED lights that link together and have amazing light output. Husky tool boxes along the sloped side would be perfect for "at home use". I used rapid air 1/2" line with a couple air drops. Pro tip, have an air quick disconnect outside for filling tires, ect. Definitely record the content and share it. If nothing else, Jimmy Jr. will get a kick out of it in a few years. Don't forget to title it "amazing transformation" *que the loud noises*

I’d love to see a driving video of the cars you’ve “finished” A single maiden voyage video, Jimmy and Austin in the car, hearing Jimmy’s takeaways, what he would change, how the car feels, etc. Could mount up a camera on the hood, idk, make it cinematic? Man I always love it when Jimmy drives my local roads, especially that bridge over the reservoir. This was a good watch for my birthday today. 12:50 I don't have to imagine, I've driven by there and seen em parked out front. Kinda unexpected at first not gonna lie. A custom Oaks Garage neon sign would be dope. I got the hookup, an old friend of my dad's runs a neon business out of North Haven I think called Elm City Neon. Dude's name is Fred, been doing it for probably 30+ years. Just tell em you were recommended by pinball Alex's son and he'll probably take care of you.

Home garage could be such a dope hangout spot too. ABSOLUTE essential for the garage is a mini-split AC/heatpump unit. AC in the summer, heat in the winter. And more high-CRI LED lights than you can shake a stick at. You want them to be high-CRI so they actually show the colors of the cars off accurately. trust me it makes the difference!

Swisstrax the floors, Quick Jacks for a simple lift, modern LED overhead lighting, couple big tool carts and you’re solid. Nice detailing set-up would be cool as well. Toss a TV and a couch in there and have a super chill garage space. Big projects stay in the shop.

Then white with the brick centre column and a big Oakes sign on the brick! Hex lights or LEDs and tuff tiles would work well too. But that’s my UK garage styling kicking in.

In the process of (finally) doing my garage up. In the 6 years I've owned my home, the must-haves I have found thus far is a garage fridge/freezer combo, a futon or couch, a TV (invest in a decent used one, you want big but don't get anything fancy since it will see more of the elements than inside). If you don't want to do a post lift, look into quicklifts. I'm going to be buying one for my garage because they're easily storable and are phenomenal to use for small projects/tinkering. If you don't have one already, get a quality leafblower. Cleaning the garage will take 5 mins with one and it's so convenient. Also quieter garage door motors are 10/10 investment.

Really digging the hangout vibes of the past couple videos. Everyone needs a break every now and then, and knowing it’s just you and Spoon, most subs totally understand and accept a laid back video once or twice a week. The vibes are reminiscent of old school first shop jimbo. Like wire tucking and painting the calipers on the black Z lmao.

Three things I've gotta say: 1. Holy shit that 86 is amazing! 2. Please, at some point, give us full videos just on pov driving. I think a lot of us would love to see you rip the 86 or the Porch on a backroad for like 15 minutes. 3. A suggestion for the garage: Grey walls with white stripes along the bottom. It's an inverse of what Adam has in his main shop at the compound, and I think it would look sick with all the flags hung up. 4. I know I said three things, lmao. But just gotta say how much I love the videos, always stoke to watch. Also, I am kinda addicted to the atmosphere and personalities of Oakes garage. Really feels we (the viewers) are there with yall. Much love from North of the border. 🇨🇦

While I wouldn't do a lift in there *right now*, if you change out the garage door lifter system I'd go with a liftmaster 98022 jackshaft one that's wall-mounted instead of a classic over-the-car one. You can do 16 LED lights off of it to light up the whole garage, and also get an 841LM garage door lock. That way if you ever decided to put a lift in, you'd have enough clearance to do it, good lighting, etc. It would be a huge improvement for your available space to do stuff. I really recommend those rubbermaid FastTrack wall-mount tracks and doing a bunch of their small bins. I've got bins just full of 10mm sockets on 3 sides of my garage. but also you could use the hooks they sell to hang some parts that wont get messed up by hanging them (but also as a way to display them). I recommend getting a few slat wall panels, at least one shelf kit, some hooks, etc. If you go all-in on their system its sleek as hell and you can change it up at any moment - nothing is permanently fixed except for the rails. just keep in mind they don't sell the wall-mount screw kits typically with the rails since most people are going into studs and using their own screws. I bought one pack of their wall anchors just to figure out the screw size they use and go from there.

The 86 makes all the right noises. If I could copy and paste a build it would probably be the 86. Jim has the Best taste in cars on the tube!

I love garage renovation content. You’re gonna see non-car people gravitate to your channel because of it. Tips: go with roll up doors or if that’s too expensive, replace the tracks with high rise tracks mounted as close to the ceiling as possible BUT you MUST HAVE a side motor door opener. Get rid of the center motor. I would also pressure wash the brick and have a giant white neon Jimmy “O” in the upper half centered on the bricks. I’m NOT a big big fan of epoxy if it’s a home garage or low maintenance area. The Tough tiles are good and when the floor gets dirty the stuff falls in the cracks and you just vacuum it out. BUT, if you do a lot of work in there, epoxy would be the move. As for the hex lighting, it’s not only cool looking but it’s functional for good lighting. There’s a reason detailers use it. Great for content too. If you got the budget, skip sheet rock, just ProSlate every wall surface you can. Thank me later. As for workbench or tool box. Depends on how heavy your box/tools be but for most home set up, Icon from harbor freight is pretty plenty. For storage of cars, I know you said no lift. But you have the room for a 4 post and you can keep more cars there. Rx-7 is definitely low enough too.
Finally pulling out one of my GREATEST Builds..
