For anyone who is worried about looking like this the first time they ski - we all look like this, it is a time honored rite of passage, especially the jeans.

@@kylerucinski9171 Sonny Bono was a cool guy, married to Cher and had their own variety show in the late 60s, check out the Sonny and Cher show. Sonny later became a Mayor in Palm Springs, he was married to someone else later and had four kids. But it was really sad when Sonny Bono did die from skiing and crashing into a tree. There’s a video of Cher giving the eulogy at his funeral.

In all honesty, I love seeing new skiers. I've been skiing for about 8-10 years now, so I'll always stop and ski with them and give them tips and such. Met one of my best buds doing that.

The short black ones haha! And I have totally scooted down a slope on my butt. Like the time stepdad and stepbrother thought it would be cute to take me down a double black diamond. Joke was on them, as stepbrother had to laboriously climb back up the quarter mile of slope to gather the debris of my descent: hat, gloves, skis, etc.

This is perfection! He has every nuance of a new skier down to a T. The jeans, the bike helmet, the crappy gloves, the constant ski crossing, just needs to add in how newbs always have trouble getting on the lift and slow the line down immensely.

As an adult learner skier, I can attest that this is accurate. I cannot tell you how accomplished I felt the first time I got off the chair all by myself. And the first time you hit powder, well... "Are my legs supposed to disappear like this?"

Never been skiing - only ice skating. Having done that, it looks like this would be my first skiing experience as well. 10/10, would sing A Whole New World in the real life experience to match this vicarious experience.

If you do ever plan on going skiing make sure your first couple times you just do cross-country that way you get a good feel of your skis, boots and how to work the poles. Cross country is basically flat land w\ very small hills (and I mean small, they aren't high and\or too long). It's fun but to avoid unnecessary injuries always master Cross country before you move onto the skiing, especially if you're older and\or have joint(knees, hip and ankles) or back issues.

@@mandielou I don’t really think cross country is necessary, it would help but downhill isn’t that difficult to pick up, and if they can already ice skate they’d probably do fine. With that said, taking it slow in the beginning especially if you’re concerned about injury is important, maybe take a class or have an experienced friend show you

If you ice skated before it’ll be much easier to learn to ski. I was a ski instructor and everyone that ice skated was able to pick it up pretty quick.

I’m so happy when he said “can we take this down?” Last time I went Skiing I had to take the chairlift back down because I was tired of falling and hurting my back. All the kids laughed at me but it was safer that way.

"Those green ones look a little long, let's try one of the short black ones first." As a beginning snowboarder, having taken the long green one [North Road] and peeked down the short black ones coming off it on the way down [N. & S. Shotgun, Weasel, Lynx, etc.], that statement sent a dart of raw fear straight into my heart. 😰😂 I stayed on the short green ones my first 1.8 days out.😋 Last time (4th day out), i finally progressed to a long blue one [Easy Street]. 👍

i had my 4th day the other day and i’d only went down a few greens but had been staying on the bunny hill, went down a blue slope thinking it was green a few times and didn’t even know what i’d accomplished till i got him and looked at the trail map 😂

Can't say much I was the insane one, first time out I did the whole "Skiing school" thing and shrugged while everyone struggled and I got yelled at for zipping down the hill with no issues with control. Went down a few greenies, moved up to a blue then said F-it after watching a few come down the double blacks.... Had a blast doing it and had guys asking how long I had been skiing when I came down with them, they thought I was fucking with them I had learned maybe 3 hours ago.

"Anybody seen my cellphone?" Yikes. Tldr: Learned to always use a zipper pocket the hard way. Phone must've flew out of my inside jacket pocket when I wiped out while snowboarding. Didn't know it was missing til later when it was returned to me. I learned that lesson the hard way: always put your phone in a zipper pocket. Luckily this was back in the days of flip phones so there was no security lock to stop the person who found it in the snow from going into the contacts and calling the contact labeled "dad" to find out who the phone belonged to. Worst part is it wasn't my phone. I'd lost my phone so I borrowed my brother's phone on a middle school ski club trip so I could call my parents to pick me up when we got back that night. Went to check in with the chaperone at the end of the night and he's like "missing something?". Boy am I glad that phone was a crappy trackphone and not something worth stealing cause my family would've been pissed. Can't imagine how much that'd suck if they same thing happened with a modern smartphone. That'd be an expensive mistake.

Modern smartphones are harder to see (more thin now) also the glass will break so much if people run over them. Good lesson. I hate boarding with my phone in my pockets at all. Also they get too cold if you put them the phone might turn off.

First time down the bunny slope with my friend coaching me. I got 2/3 of the way down and realised I had absolutely no idea how to stop. I sort of slouched over into a slide. He came up next to me and said "good, you fell down. If you hadn't I was going to pull you down. First rule of skiing is how to fall down." Me: "Nailed it."

I was 15 when I went skiing for the first time. At night. I was on a “bunny hill” that felt like Mount Everest. I fell a million times at first. I finally picked up speed and managed to stay up when I realized I didn’t know how to stop. I ended up skiing into the fricken parking lot before I slammed into someone’s car. No damage to the car or myself. Just utter humiliation. First and last time I ever skied.

Or, someone who is really good. At Telluride, the founder skis in jeans as well as a very notable staff member. Super fun way to spruce up the day. Also, I snowboard in a skirt almost every day. Out of place? Haha.

I first skied at Keystone wearing jeans and a cheap Shopko jacket in 1983. (I was 16) Some guys at the top of a double diamond bump run made fun of my attire and said my jeans would get soaked when I crashed and that I should get the Ski Patrol to take me down. I said '"You don't get wet if you don't fall down." I jumped in and owned that run. When they caught up to me, in the lift line, they asked were I was from and how I learned to ski like that. I said "I'm from Minnesota, everyone skis like this. Why can't you?" Arrogant pricks! (I was from Minnesota. I was also a certified National ski patroller at our small local hill who didn't plan on doing any skiing on that trip so I didn't have my own equipment and patrol gear with me) You can have the most expensive gear on the mountain and still suck. Just stay safe. Have fun and don't be a jerk. Rock on Charlie!

I grew up in the Poconos, was born during a snowstorm in the early 80s, lived 10 minutes from Camelback ski lodge, to this day, I still look like this, take me sledding instead 😂🤣

My one ski trip, Boyne Mt. Mich., the slopes were solid ice. There was 10 of us. Half knew how to ski. We dropped like flies, Every run down we had another casualty...we all went home beaten, broken and bloody......good times...

I was just at Keystone December 6th-16th!!! I live in FL so that's a big deal for me lol. That's where I learned to ski. I absolutely love it! Good job Charlie 👏👍

keystone!!! Probably still my favorite mountain. I did over a hundred thousand vertical feet in one day here lapping Starfire then finishing with night laps on the front side. Super fun.

Gotta learn somewhere Charlie. My first time on downhill skis wasn’t anywhere nearly as nice as Keystone or on any kind of modern gear, 1986 I think at Nordic Mountain, Wisconsin. Rope tow shredded my gloves and the Poma lift kept sending me to the snow because I’d try to sit down on the frisbee instead of letting it pull me. Life long adventures when you really start skiing, so fun.

I was on the ski team for years so I love to ski everything that I can get to. When he said, let’s go do the blacks I kinda freaked out. I took my friend skiing for the first time last year and she said something similar to me and I was like, we’re gonna stay on the bunny slope for now.

I used to ski all the time when I was younger but then I moved to the south and they basically had no idea what that was. No snow, no mountains, no nothing. I'm moving back to Idaho soon and I'm looking forward to skiing again. Hopefully I can remember how lol

This is all too reminiscent of the first time I went skiing in the Poconos. I felt like I had no control, so I made my way down the slope by falling every few feet. Didn't have a cool conveyor belt though.

I'm a Utahn and skied since I was 3, so, safe to say I have seen many a friend wanna give it a go to only pay for a full day, walk down the first kiddy run and chill in the lodge for 6 hours while I enjoyed my day. I ain't throwing my day away for their bad decisions and lack of willingness to try!
