11:12 I appreciate when the manufacturer gives a little extra wind. Personally, I like to take the strings off and go over the instrument. Tightening nuts and screws, checking the pickup solder job, Clean the fretboard, examine and repair fret issues, polish frets, etc. Then If I can I'll reuse the strings. You can't do that with zero wind. I like to set up and play the the original strings as the manufacturer spec'd it.

@bernieboi89434 жыл бұрын
Sounds bad indeed. But I guess it depends on the genre. Not my cup of tea
@Pizvo4 жыл бұрын
Well, the thing with Orange amps is that they are not really designed for metal. Sure, a lot of metal guitar players use them, but that's because they have a very angry, dark and grindy British feel to them. The lack of tightness is a common trade off with them and so is the lack of gain (if you look past their dedicated "black" metal amps), which is not a concern in their sweet spot sound (listen to The Mars Volta's first album to get the idea of what that is). However, there is nothing quite like an old OR120 with a cranked master and a substantial overdrive boost. It's not just a sound, it's a physical sensation. The thing scares you, it sounds plain evil. That's kind of the origin of the "Orange as a metal amp" thing we have today. Orange as a company caters to that subset of players and it works to some extent, but they stayed true to two things - the tone character and the fact that you need to crank them so they can breathe better. And that's exactly the opposite of what today's VST-loaded tightness-worshiping proggy bedroom metalheads want in an amp. A lot of people tend to crank the gain, turn the volume down and expect the thing to behave in a room alone or with some backing tracks - it WON'T! Oranges are moody and hissy outside of a loud band setting. But in a live mix - oh boy... It's something else. But even then, you can't exactly play fast technical stuff on them. Not their vibe...
@bernieboi89434 жыл бұрын
@@Pizvo thx for the insight. I did dig the sound of the amp when he played a bit of slipknot suited it really well!
@nessearthbound31074 жыл бұрын
@@Pizvo I agree with this. I think a lot of people who are into extremely tight and 'not messy' distortion and fast metal will not like an Orange. If you are into stoner, sludge or doom, they are amazing. I honestly think the Orange has more feeling and soul than a lot of the VSTs and metal amps today, and the genres that it's used for have more feel than the fast, technical stuff that is the norm today, in part due to amps like the Oranges.

Just received mine. Harley Benton used to be that typical, super cheap in-house-brand and I've tried some really crappy HB guitars. But obviously Thomann is really up to something with the new Amaroks and the Fusion II. The Amarok baritone is probably the best playing guitar I've ever had and I have to say, I was always more than happy with my Ibanez, ESP and Gibson guitars. Everything on this guitar just feels good. Yes, the often critisized wiggly toggle switch seems to be a thing with the Amarok, but other than that I'm mindblow. Even the setup was quite good.I had to adjust the neck a little, but thanks to the smart trussrod system, that was done in a minute. I found some tiny minor flaws in the finish, but we are talking neck-"joint" and on the downward side of the fretbord. So don't be afraid to buy. This baritone is magnificent!

Hb are good guitars for the money but I wish reviewers would also mention flaws that we can expect to see just so people know that they will have to live with a few things or spend some $ to fix. Mine had bad buzz. Setup related issue. Pick ups rock forward/ back when you touch them. Binding had lot of glue residue at the bottom. The nut slots are cut too deep. You can see the entire string sunk into the slot. Should be half up . Frets are not jumbo. Frets are finished functional to not hurt your hand but aren't rounded on the edges. Add whatever it costs to get set up done to the cost of the guitar.

Serious question for Hunter: Do you know how Harley Benton view the American market (and I do mean all of NA, not just USA)? Because, shipping being what it is, none of their guitars are worth it, even as mod projects. The added price of shipping puts them out of the budget category and their local competition (which in most cases you'll be able to try given some patience/driving) will outmatch them, either as mod projects or g2g guitars. This is my opinion of course, but given the Roswell pickups (and to be honest, the EMGs in the Amaroks), I consider all Harleys are in need of a good 100-200$ in pickups, and some locking tuners. Now, I love the rest of what they offer and the initial price range, and if I happened to be in Europe, Id seriously consider bringing one home... but that might take a while, because pandemic, and because pandemic, broke. I also get that the point of Thomann with Harley Bentons is cut the middle man; associating with any American retailer/chain would spoil that, but breaking into the market MIGHT be worth it...? Basically what Im asking is if you can find out if Harley Benton has any plans to become more accessible to NA. Anyone answering 'just order a bunch of stuff it'll make shipping worth it', stop it. The point is saving money, not buying a truckload of goods to justify the shipping.
@BigCleverName4 жыл бұрын
I agree, the shipping has really put me off and even worse if the guitar comes broken: I think I would have to pay for shipping. Shipping is the only thing that is stopping me from picking up the Explorer
@Fidelitye4 жыл бұрын
Im from cali, their shipping can get up to as much as 70 dollars. They send it through UPS Express, and they handle them like crap. I've had a package with 2 guitars come looking like it went to hell and back. It clearly saw better days. one came with some big fret buzz issues (which i wasn't surprised seeing how the box came, it legitimately looked like they beat the shit out of it). Fixed her up in like 15 minutes and she played great. Dont get me wrong the guitars themselves they honestly feel like quality but with how UPS Express handles them, they need to lower prices.
@starkiller344 жыл бұрын

I had an RK50 from about 2007 that I used in two different bands in the late 2000’s. One was a downtuned metal band that i mostly used the dirt channel and a flying-V with. The other was an indie/alt/singer songwriter type thing. I used the clean channel with pedals and a telecaster for that. Both worked really well. That clean channel complimented the other guitar player’s sound, which was another Tele through a Fender super Reverb.

Nice review and I would agree that your opening tracks are getting better. Still liked the SG Modern track best! Perhaps the Harley Benton team should have someone in the US inspect and perform set-ups prior to the final shipment, like Schecter does. It makes a huge difference in value/quality perception! My Schecter jumped out of the box with none of your noted Harley Benton issues. Lastly, these budget guitar manufacturers seem to forget that their lovely 3rd party pickup signal goes through these cheap switches and output jacks! I say, spend a couple of bucks more and use the good stuff. Consumers notice crappy components that sound poor and at the end of the day, your rig is only as good sounding as that crackling tin switch is!
