Living in greater Cincinnati and having German heritage braunsweiger was a staple in the household. Liver turns a lot of people away but try it with Dijon mustard bread and butter pickles sweet onion and rye bread. Classic blue collar meal bud.

I mix it with cream cheese and make a pate'. I take it to parties and people dip chips in it and love it, I never tell them what it is. This is my buddy in the video trying it for the 1st time.

I first tried it in the early 1940's, during W. W. 2 and loved it, especially with mustard, sweet mixed or half-sour pickles on the side with dark rye bread slices....Yummmeee ! I'm now 89 years old and I'm still loving it but sometimes I open the wrap it's in and I start eating the slices before I make a sandwich !

It makes a great cheese ball too. 1 pack of Braunschwager, 2 packs cream cheese, and a couple drops of Worcestershire sauce. mix all on it by hand 'yes, messy' form ball (if you want to) roll ball in crushed walnuts. Serve to spread on snack crackers.

You can make a great dip with braunschweiger and cream cheese equal parts, some garlic powder, chopped onion and Tabasco or Worcestershire sauce. It's great on crackers or rye bread

It tastes like Vienna Sausages. I like the taste but get grossed out by anything organ. Imma try it with the toasted rye, mustard, etc and go all out. It's especially healthy with the vitamin A.

I believe that Braunschweiger does not have cornmeal filler like liverwurst. From what I’ve read recipes may differ but Braunschweiger is typically smoked, while liverwurst is cooked and formed in a loaf pan.

I like it on rye bread with a slice of raw onion and maybe some spicey brown mustard. Yellow mustard works too. Only thing is if your on a salt restricted diet you may want to pass. I like cold liver pudding and yellow mustard also.

Okay, here’s the scoop from a Wisconsin guy who grew up (and still does!) eating the stuff which comes from a local butcher/meat market. Don’t get me wrong, there’s commercially made braunschweiger that’s just fine, but if you’ve got access to a place that freshly makes its own (from an old traditional recipe), you owe it to yourself to hunt it down. I’m also a former executive chef, and while I appreciate the tastes I grew up with, there’s no reason not to tweak a sandwich with flavors that complement the primary ingredient. Mom, Grandma, everyone pretty much always used a good dark rye (Pumpernickel if possible) for the bread. I also like to toast the bread a bit, and brush some decent olive oil on it, then the braunschweiger, sliced sweet onions, a good swab of E coarse ground mustard, salt, pepper, H

When I was a kid you could go to little country stores that had liverloaf in big chunks they would slice for you. It had white fat wrapped around it......was great on soft white Wonder Bread with potato chips and a pickle.

This is the same brand I use and I LOVE it. You might try cutting the slice and then pressing it between your hands to make it big enough for the bread. I put mine on Walmart wheat buns with a slice of cheese and miracle whip on one bread and mustard on the other. You can also make the slice bigger by pressing down on it with a chef knife on a cutting board. Sometimes I put a slice or two of lettuce in with it. Sometimes I fry up a slice with my eggs in the morning. 😊

Been passing Braunschweiger in the store packaged meat sections all my life, never once placing one in the shopping cart, EVER. It has been calling out to me recently out of curiosity. I finally brought one home yesterday and it sits in my refrigerator unopened as I watch this and write this. I figured there has to be some people on youtube who made a video about it. I just made me the sandwich like yours but i toasted the bread on a pan with butter, then added some raw onion with a little grilled onions, and i didn’t have any Mustard unfortunately, but mayonnaise complimented it not too bad. The meat itself is so creamy. I’m a fan of chicken livers, has that same texture to it. Of course because it’s liver lol. 😁

Ah I forgot about that. A few decades ago I had a boss that would bring those to work. About 4 years ago I bought some at the store and had a few sandwiches. Wife thought I was crazy lol. Try my sandwich. A crusty bread like french bread, toasted. A good brand of liverwurst, mayo, sliced white onions, sliced kosher dill pickles, very thinly sliced cheddar cheese and dots of classic mustard. YUM!! Incidentally, as a child, you couldn't get me near ANYTHING liver. As an adult, I love liverwurst.
