As a local based in Nürnberg/Nuremberg I am very happy that you visited "my" beautiful city. Also, I am very proud that you liked the "Nürnberger Bratwurst", it surely is the best kind of sausage you could possibly eat. Let me tell you a quick story about the origin of its relatively small size: A tale states that it has something to do with Nurembergs underground prisons from medieval times. They say you couldn't fit the big ones, nowadays called "Frankfurters", through the small celldoors' keyholes. So that's why family members of incarcerated men and women begged the butchers to make them smaller so they fit through a keyhole. That way they temporarily saved their loved ones from dying due to hunger. Anyway, I thank you for your interest in reading this and may y'all stay safe and healthy. Cheers from Nürnberg/ Germany :)

Fun fact that I never realized until a British friend of mine, who was on a vacation tour through Germany, brought to my attention. He was overwhelmed by the amount of different sausages here in Germany. When I looked up for it I found out that there where about 1500 different sorts of sausages which I never thought of. So if you want to try them all you should think about making Germany your forever home. 😁😂

Nürnberger mit Sauerkraut is soooooo lecker😋😋😋 I’m not so much into Sauerkraut usually but with Nürnbergers… such a Perfect combination. Nürnberg is really nice as a city and they really reconstructed the heavily destroyed city very thoroughly after WWII. They managed to capture the flavor of an old historic site.

I cant handle the "Bratwurst" without ABS (a bissala Senf /a little bit of mustard). Where possible choosing a mustard that you actually like is helpful. It/they also HAVE to be grilled over wood or charcoal. If "only" fried in a pan than they only taste half as good, so you choose the perfect locations to try the Bratwurst 👍.

Hi, you lovely little family ! What a nice vlog video from you. Nürnberger Rostbratwurst is a "classic" that everyone who visits Nürnberg should try out. For the mustard, I can recommend some very good ones. Try Düsseldorfer Löwensenf (Dusseldorf Lion Mustard). If you prefer a milder mustard, Thomy Nestle mustars (in the blue tube) is the best choice in Germany, I would say. There is also a French mustard (in different flavours), called Maille. The standard mustard, you can also get in German supermarkets, but for the special flavoured ones, you should rather go to France and buy them there. Also Fallot is an excellent brand when it comes to original Dijon mustard from France. I have been to Dijon and tried several mustards there, and they are ALL delicious. Best wishes : Gerry

Merry Christmas to me! I just accidentally stumbled upon this video while being a bit bored this Christmas Day. What an amazing surprise. You guys are living the life my wife and I often dreamed about for over 40 years - living in Germany. Admittedly I've been quite devoted to some of your other fellow KZbin travel vloggers, but you became my favorites already. Who would've thought watching two kids young enough to be my grandkids would be so entertaining? Normally I'd have no interest in two Millennials' vlog with their kid tagging along, but Willa is the star of the show. Such a precocious little girl. I'll be spending the rest of my day and the next watching you guys do what I've always longed to do but just never had the resources or guts to pull off. BTW, you settled smack dab in the area we have been visiting almost every year since 1979.

The Nürnberg Bratwurst as street food is typically pre-brewed (so they can react on changing demand quickly) while in restaurants they are roasted from scratch (which is imho much better). Also supermarket Bratwurst is pre-brewed (besides you get fresh ones like in Nürnberg supermarkets). The traditional add on for them is horseradish. My father (born 1935 in Nürnberg ) told me, mustard is only for tourists. But I think this has changed.

Those small Bratwürste have become very popular in German hotels, because they resemble the small British sausages that are part of the traditional "cooked breakfast". So you find them now at the breakfast buffet next to the scambled eggs and fried bacon. When they are labelled "Nuremberg style" (Nürnberger Art) every butcher or meat producer can sell them.

Hehe, that Willa wouldn't even take a bite out of the bun / Brötchen is completely understandable to me. Why bother with the side if you can have only the main course? That would have been me as a kid myself at her age, chomping down the sausages. The Nürnberger Bratwürste (they are always delivered in multiples, as they are so small) are one of THE best known types of sausage in Germany. I am truely, desperately sorry to the British with what I am saying now, but their breakfast sausages that seem to be at least visual carbon copies of the Nürnberger, is like comparing card board pictures to the real deal. Once I had the absolute pleasure of getting my hands on some real, hand-made Thüringer Bratwurst from a specialized butcher in Thüringen / Thuringia. Made to perfection, an incredible delight. Similar to many other styles of Bratwurst, but ooooh so subtly different in flavor. Comparing the Thüringer with the Nürnberger would be like comparing two cars from different brands for their aesthetically pleasing aspects. Both might hold beauty in the eyes of a single viewer, yet similar but different enough, yet both are still basically a four-wheeled vehicle.

Oh my gosh! I am sitting here and salivating, I can smell the sausages from here. So I just went to the Bavaria Sausage website and ordered some, but it will take at least 4 days to arrive here hope I last that long.

I know it's about travelling and experiencing new places and stuff, but you know you can get Nürnberger in almost every Supermarket in Germany. Same goes for Münchner Weisswurst. Granted: Fresh from the place of origin is always the better option. Happy you like the food here. :-)

It's so fascinating and lovely to see people experiencing German culture and Germany in such an amazing way. Most people think of Germany as this nazi empire and it's so nice to see people experiencing the exact different thing. Just so perfect. I hope you two stay in Germany 👌👌🇩🇪

When you are in Franconia you should also try smoked Bratwurst. But that's eaten cold, for dinner (+ horseradish and pickles).

There is no horse reddish in the mustard. Its only real mustard made from the brown mustard seeds. And that is spicy. I know US mustard, so i understand why you think it must be something in there....

Usally it comes without horse reddish, but there are some brands with this variety.

If it is not declared specifically as a "horseradish-mustard", which personally I have never heard of, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, then what you had is called "scharfer Senf" (spicy mustard), there is NO horseradish in there. You are used to the American style mustard, that is almost sweet, but for a German has really no mustard flavor. I've lived in the US for some years and it was very hard finding a mustard that was similar to the german one. The only one I could find as an imported french dijon mustard. In Germany you can find all kinds of mustards, which are "good" for different things. Leberkäse for example is classic with a sweet mustard, Bratwurst classically is eaten with a spicy mustard and then you can fin everything in between. Personally I prefer the very spicy Löwensenf, as grew up in the region where it is produced.

(German) horseradish mustard sure exists. I love Löwensenf, too. The original red one has no sugar added. That's unfortunatly very seldom.

@@Andreas_Cologne Interesting. Thank you! Never seen it, do you know a brand ? I love both mustard and horseradish. But I doubt it is something they would have at a regular "Würstlbude". I still think it was "scharfer Senf".

Hot dogs and Bratwurst on a bun are much different. lol Bratwurst in einem Brotchen is a German classic and staple. But, you have to put mustard and or Sauerkraut on it. Beautiful!!

What makes German sausages so good is that they are made of spices and, in the main, MEAT. Most, if not all, the flavour enhancers or padding you find in U.S. sausages are illegal in Germany.

@@Andreas_Cologne Considering that in some countries celiacs are unable to eat sausages because whatever they stuff into them contains gluten, yeah, that the German sausage is ONLY made out of meat and spices is something special. (At least outside of Europe).

The restaurant's sausages look very much "handmade" (uneven shape etc) while the "outside" ones look like mass-produced. Those you can buy in packs of like 12-20 pieces in every supermarket (not all are good, though)
