Durian in US mostly imported from Thailand...Monthong Durian....it taste worst coz they just plucked unripe durian from the tree...to make it last longer & to export , thats why their durian texture is firm, even worst maybe they put some preservative lol....Durian in Malaysia is definitely creamy & fresh 😁

They are also monthong & kanyao (Tangkai panjang) planted in Malaysia that harvest ripe. Soft texture like all durian in Malaysia. But its more common sold in northen states. Monthong usually pre-order at the farm, not much farm plant it. Ug you find these 2 at stalls, do ask them if its from thailand or malaysia. Imported thai usually plucked unripe for transportation, the fruits will ripe along the journey.

In Thailand, you can tell the seller that you want the creamy one or the firm one, there are many types of durians. You might think Thai durians are all firm because most Bangkok people like to eat it crispy outside and soft inside. In my province Surat Thani and my family love to eat it creamy so we gonna keep it few days after cut from tree without peeling to make it more ripe. I recommend you to ask them, there are levels of durian ripeness. The new cut will be a bit hard to let it slowly ripen while being transported to Bangkok. If you like creamy and sweet I suggest you to try Phaung Mani, Kan Yao and Chanee but Chanee has a strong smell than Monthong ^^
@ChovyTravel4 ай бұрын
We tried kan yao when we first had durian from Thailand and loved it! 😊 We both liked that one more than mon thong. Mon thong was good too but we both said kay yao was creamier. We should probably try softer one next time in Thailand. Thanks for the suggestion! 👍👍

Durian always get a bad rep because of those who tried the frozen ones . Thus "stinkiest" fruit . However , I would say its a sweet avocado , vanilla , ice cream texture . Durian has to be sweet , bitter , creamy . Also , Thai durians are harvested on the trees , while Malaysian durians are collected when they fall off the tree , the peak of its ripeness.

Finally u have try my recommendations - Malaysia Best Durian in the world. I never cheat u right? hehe.... Malaysian majority love bitter sweet durian. But beginner try the lighter taste 1st...so tell me which one is ur favourite? Malaysia durian are natural without injection or chemicals like Thailand. Expensive doesn't mean suit u, coz taste is kinda subjective to individual but 100% for sure world best durian is only in Malaysia because of our land, soil whether... No country can duplicate the same durian like Malaysia. Even China ppl come here try to get the tips n learn study n want to go back to china produce the same but end up they realise it's impossible!

You definitely did not cheat us 😉. Oh really!? How funny! Didn’t know people from China come to Malaysia to learn it. I do have to say, Malaysia definitely are experts when it comes to Durian.

Love the never ending durian rivalry between thai and m'sia durian. I think generally the longer you hang the fruit on the tree then of course it'll be richer and colour is more intense as it ages. But of course you have to sacrifice the shelf life. Considering 90+% of thai durian are for export to chinese market, and ordinary thai paletes dont like overripe durian it doesnt make sense to collect them after the fruit fall off the tree. Not saying which is better but I guess Thai durians are made for a broader and wider market but as for intensity got to give it to m'sia durian.
@ChovyTravel4 ай бұрын
😅 What you said definitely makes sense. Thank you so much for sharing! 🥰🫰❤️🙏. At the end of the day, It all boils down to preference.
@bartocastro36724 ай бұрын
Thailand are the bigger exporter. They pluck the fruits prematurely to carter the market. The ones you tried in US definitely Thais (or Vietnams) Malaysia harvest differently. We wait the fruits matured and fall naturally. We export the fruits about 10 to 15 years before, mostly frozen and processed durian. About a month ago, we imported fresh in big batches for Chinese market.
@ChovyTravel4 ай бұрын
Interesting! Honestly, the Durians in the states tasted nothing like Thailand. It was old, very sour, and definitely seemed like it was rotten. Had a horrible stench. I think that’s why a lot of Americans stray away from Durian. We get the worst of the worst rotten ones. At least the ones I tried… So the Durians in China are from Malaysia?
@noteh4 ай бұрын
If you want more local durian experience, go for durian kampung. You’ll never know what you get. I love the alcoholic ones. But if you’re unlucky, you will get the unripe one so we just ferment em with sugar, salt and chillis (like kimchi). Also, for rarer find, durian daun. Vanillary taste. You can also go to Temerloh, Pahang and try Patin Masak Tempoyak (actually you can find this in KL too but may not as good). Its fermented durian and catfish jjigae/stew. That’s my favorite dish!

The way Thai durian is harvested and preserved makes Thai durian the best in the world in terms of taste and export, and no other country can compete. Waiting for the durian to ripen too long on the tree will make the flesh mushy and bitter and taste unpleasant. Thank you so much for sharing! 🥰🫰❤️🙏 We found Durian in Malaysia pretty great too! The texture and taste are different from both Thailand and Malaysia. I guess it really boils down to preference. I’m really curious now to see the method of both countries on how you guys grow Durian. Going to have to look them both up 😁

@ChovyTravel Durian is native to Southeast Asia and is commonly found in countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar and the Philippines. Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam are 3 countries that export durian to other countries in the world especially to China. Arguably the most famous and sought-after durian is Musang King (D197)

Not true on malaysian durian. Malaysian durian is the best. Thailand durian sucks on taste.

We actually like both countries durians. They’re both delicious and yet very different. Malaysian durians are sweeter but Thailand durians are less potent. Texture wise very different too. Soft vs firm.

Historically, the quality and expensive Thai durian is the Mon Thong variety. The English word means appearance, which is Golden Pillow. Its origin is in Nonthaburi Province, a province bordering Bangkok. However, Nonthaburi has changed from durian orchards to residential areas. In terms of real estate, the old people have left, the new generation has studied and gone to other jobs. Therefore, Mon Thong durian has moved to the eastern part of Thailand. The quality of Thai durian is second only to Mon Thong, which is Kanyao and Chanee. Other durians are of poor quality, such as southern durians and Malaysian durians because there is a lot of rain. The durian flesh is mushy like fermented fish sauce. Chinese factories buy it to make mooncake filling. It is very normal for children and Malaysians to say that their durian is good, but Malaysians still want Mon Thong durians, including the Chinese, who make Thais eat expensive durians. When the durians start to bloom, the Chinese will buy up the durian orchards, pay the orchard owners, and hire Thais to take care of the durian orchards. As for the durian orchard owners, they receive the money and are not responsible if there is a storm that damages the produce. I still have a lot to learn from an 80 year old.

Thank you so very much for sharing! 🥰❤️🫰🙏. We never tried the Chanee one before but the Mon Thong and Kanyao were good! Also, the Durian here in Malaysia is good too! I guess it really depends on the person. Coming from the US, I can definitely say, best Durian is in SEAsia for sure 😅
