I have had Haggis my whole life and it really is great with buttery mashed potatoes and mashed neeps ( Swede ), personally i never liked the whisky sauce as it takes away from the other flavors. I have never thought to add it to a curry but I think I will try it as it looked good, also if you have left over Haggis stick it in the fridge and the next day it will have stiffened up letting you slice it ( assuming you did not mash it all up ) and you can then put it between buttered bits of white bread. Personally I do not think it is an acquired taste but people that have not tried it have an image in there head of what it is and the organ ingredients scare them or the fact that traditional ones are cased in sheep stomach ( normal supermarket ones now usually use a plastic casing, even tho these people will happily chomp down on sausages that to this day are encased in intestines and more than often have organs mixed in just not listed on the label,

You don't need any sauce with Haggis. It's packed with flavour and typically lovely and moist. Some creamy mash potato with mashed carrot/turnip and you're jamming. A Haggis supper from the chippy is also a thing of beauty. Haggis Pakora started appearing at every wedding up here a few years back. Nothing better than being on the dance floor breathing in the burps of other guests as it repeats on them...🤢😂

This is the polar opposite to jellied eel's, haggis is lovely, not sure how I'd feel about a haggis curry but go for it Keith, when I live in England I use to be able to get them from Aldi I believe back in the day But if your ever up in Scotland get one there, there's something special about a fresh haggis in Scotland that blows the shop bought ones away

Yes mate I would love to try a proper Scottish one

Big Daddi. Our local butcher does the fresh haggis expensive but worth every penny.

Definitely will give the recipie a try. Mashed swede, mashed potato, a third of each, including the Haggis is a great way to serve Haggis, a separate pile of each on a plate, no sauce, just top with a dusting of ground white or black pepper. Always cooks fine by any method, listed on the pack, microwave is quickest.
@IainTwin12 жыл бұрын
Keith when buying haggis again try and get the good stuff from a butchers and have it with mashed potatoes and neeps (turnip) and pour a nip of whisky over it, i'm Scottish and thats the way to try it.
@PotatoPirate1232 жыл бұрын
Apparently swede is the one to get, as the sweetness balances the saltiness and it’s the more traditional pairing. My mum always insisted that ‘neeps’ means just normal turnip, but apparently in Scotland they call swede ‘neeps’. I guess that’s why you always get loads of swede on sale before Burns’ Night

I've tried haggis twice... 1st time I thought it was revolting and can only assume it was an inferior make. 2nd time, I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, Keith... good review... Definitely have it with 'neeps and tatties' (swede and potatoes). Just in case any of your viewers wonder what the difference is between swede and turnips (Hairy Bikers did this) a swede is bigger than a turnip and generally an orangey colour flesh, whilst turnips are smaller and have a whiter flesh. I do believe it may be a geographical thing 😉
