I once ate Chicken Gepuk Pak Gembus in my cold city of Malang, I tried to order level 100 sambal, after eating, I drank hot tea then 1 hour later I drank Adem Sari Ching Ku. Thank goodness my stomach is safe..don't ever try if you have gastric disease.

Jengkol is bean, people call it stinky bean because of the smell and after eating it, your urine smells not good but it's rich in anti-oxidants which can prevent cancer. But I recommend you not to eat it too much because it's also high in compound which makes your kidney work hard. Pare is bitter gourd. It tastes a little bitter but if they can cook it very well, it's not that bitter; however, it's healthy.

Bitter melon and jengkol is really a "unique" ingredient cos not all 'cook'/chef can remove the 'bitter' from them and make them tasty And the vegetable named in english is chayote or in indonesian language "labu siam"

Jengkol, if processed and cooked correctly, could taste like potato. Pare, if processed and cooked correctly, could taste like chayote (labu siam). Labu siam is the one that you have in your sayur lodeh

a few days ago muslim in indonesia just celebrate islamic holliday that's called iedul adha, were in that day muslims who are financially capable will buy a goat, lamb, or cow. then they slay them and than they distribute the meat to the people around them, especially to the poor people. usually when people get meat, they will cook rendang, tongseng, gulai, satay, soup and so on. but i believe you has try rendang, tongseng, gulai and satay. but have you try sop iga sapi (beef rib soup)??? it's very delicious and i recomended to you. thank you for introducing Indonesia to the whole world susan, i wish you all the best, sory my english is terrible, stay safe and have a great day...

Pare tastes bitter even when cooked in any way, but tastes very good when eaten with dumplings & peanut sauce. Just like papaya leaves, if you can't process it properly, then cooked in any way it will still taste bitter. For lodeh, try looking for a Javanese Warung in Bali, it's a good idea to try Lodeh Tofu Tempe, Lodeh Bambu Muda ( Young Bamboo or Sayur Rebung), Lodeh Kotokan Lele ( Catfish Lodeh ), Shrimp Rempeyek, Lodeh Labu Siyem (Lodeh Chayote), Lodeh Terong (Eggplant). For Lodeh Bambu Muda, usually someone adds crab. Also try Lodho Chicken, in East Java usually Lodho Chicken is served with Young Jackfruit Lodeh. Invite Jill again to try this food. Hello, henry from the netherlands. I speak with you on netherlands , is that ok? Ik ben Indo-nederlands en kijk de laatste tijd naar jou videos. Ontzettend leuk en met veel plezier en ook interresant om naar te kijken. Helaas is mijn moeder niet meer bij ons, ik mis heel erg haar kookkunst, she is the best to kook indonesian food. Leuk dat je het eten uitprobeert betreft smaak en geur. Wat ik alleen probeer uit leggen is dat je wel voorzichtig moet zijn met bezorgen van eten. Je weet niet of het vers is of ,schrik niet, bedorven. Restaurants betreft Koelkast of vrieskast in Warm-indonesie , weet je niet 100% zeker of het vers is. verder blijf ik graag en met veel gelach naar je videos kijken.

Thanks for trying guys. Eating ayam geprek, you def need rice. And sweet ice tea, if you okay with sugar for drinks. Pare dish, probably you got not a good cook, because it depends on how good the chef/cook cooking, it would not taste too bitter but super delicious. Jengkol, best on West Java/Sunda style while Lodeh, eat with Lontong, some regions in east Java has its signature taste for Lontong Sayur Lodeh, like Surabaya and around.

You must try sayur asem, another flavour of sayur, but much more like sayur lodeh, and semur Jengkol in west , or middle java, not spicy but sweet. And Petai stinky bean, olso popular in west java

Hey hey hey, pare or in Sunda called with PARIA. pare absolutely sp bitter but is so healty..btw we like paria because by bitter taste. If you buy siomay, you can found paria. Bitter taste can balanced by other menu.

Something like pumpkin called Starfruits raw (blimbing wuluh)..he (Febian) means jengkol is stinkybeans but not peanuts or Beans but it vegetabled like Pete (stinkybeans junior)

12:07 I believe it is chayote/choko. The earlier one, jengkol is in the pea family, they're from the pods, similar to peas.

12:08 That veggie is called chayote that came from a squash family, in Indonesia we called it “Labu Siam”, 4:50 that jengkol thing is came from a pea family and it’s literally called jengkol also, but some people named it dog fruit or blackbead, correct me if I’m wrong but really appreciates your effort for being adventurous for trying some of Indonesian foods

You should try Pete Balado, this's one of the minang kabau food. I stayed at NY, USA I'm from Bandung. It's hard to find in here. Bravo for your explore.

Pare is bitter melon, jengkol is stink bean, and the last one is a fruit that they have in Mexico too. I like it too, with coconut milk and bungis.

Jengkol memang makanan yang sangat tidak enak bagi yang gak suka dan sedikit bau. Tapi bagi yang menyukai nya bau nya seakan tak jadi masalah.Walaupun saya jarang berkomentar, tapi saya selalu mengikuti aktivitas mu susan, moga makin banyak followers nya.

12:07 it's chayote or LABU SIAM . Try jengkol cooked in different way, namanya Semur Jengkol. It is sweet and not spicy.

I think the sambal for ayam geprek is using tomato beside other ingredients and a little bit of sugar on it so the taste is not too spicy but it looks tasty and yummy ... damn I'm drooling

Hi Susan and Jill, keep on trying new dishes while you were in Indonesia lol, both jengkol and pare are some of the exotic dishes in Indonesia, not all Indonesian like both including me, but sometimes both could be very nice, it depends on how the chef executing both into the dishes, different grandma different recipes, there are still tons of Indonesian dishes that much more tasty that you can try.

12:07 indonesian green pumpkin/ Siamese pumpkin, i don't know who recommended jengkol and pare he/she should try and confirm it first if it with the best chef cooked or not, before recommend to first timer, most the time all local warung can't process it to remove the smell from jengkol or the bitter from pare, it will make first timer trauma while if it best cooked it will be "enak"

If you like sayur lodeh, you should visit warung kopi klotok in north jogjakarta.. Anyway, Not many indonesians like to eat jengkol. Personally, i prefer pare than jengkol.. pare is more healthy, could lower your blood pressure. You could find pare in siomay and some gado-gado (not every seller put pare in gado-gado). the peanut sauce will cover the bitterness of pare.

Terkadang kita harus makan makanan yang terasa pahit karena yang pahit rasanya belum tentu tidak baik untuk kesehatan. Check khasiat dari jengkol dan pare. Seperti kehidupan, tidak selamanya berjalan manis. Eyekadang kita juga merasakan kepahitan dalam hidup supaya kita bisa belajar.

Jengkol is the favorite of Indonesians, it is a little bitter but if it is mixed with rice it will taste delicious, don't forget to eat Pete with Sambell, it's delicious
