First time trying PADANG food in Bali, Indonesia

This is my first time ever trying Padang (sumatran) food!
In this video we try: sambal hijau (green sambal), perkedel (potato dumpling), beef rendang, sayur kapau (beans with coleslaw), ayam kari (chicken curry), tuna gulai (tuna curry), sambal udang (spicy shrimp), Ikan asin (salty fish), kikil (cow skin) and ayam goreng (fried chicken)

no wonder you guys love the perkedel since it was your ancestor who bring it to Indonesia and we adapt it with local wisdom. some say perkedel is originated from frikandel but the meat is in small portion and more of potatoes. and nowadays it is more difficult to find perkedel with minced beef in it.

Padang rice restaurants are everywhere in Indonesia. Easy to get in every province, and cities. So the food is very liked by the Indonesian people. I eat every meal looking for Padang restaurants around the house in Riau.

Nice choice, Natrabu is a foreign friendly Padang's food. our expats colleges mostly from Italy and UK like this Natrabu and have no problem with the stomach. I remember when we had lunch meeting and provided the lunch with Natrabu vs subway, and Natrabu won :)

The perkedel (potato) came from the dutch word of Frikandel.. yeap we improvised. Perkedel used to be a mixed of mince beef & potato back then but in the Netherlands it's a ham sausage serving with fries.. my oma told me hehe and perkedel is not specifically from west sumatera, it's just a general indonesian dish

You should live for a while (maybe at least a year) in Indonesia, travel around Indonesia and try a vast array of cuisine from west to east of Indonesia. Your channel can grow bigger here (and your fanbase) since your friends are also funny when reacting in front of the camera. If you go to West Sumatra, you definitely need to come to Bukittinggi City to, it just 1 or 2 hours from Padang. You gonna taste an authentic Minangkabau food at there. Mostly in different province in Indonesia, we eat almost all parts of cow. From the meat, organs, muscle, even the bone. We cook it for Bakso ( meatball ) broth to get a better taste. The cow skin can be a lot of different kind of food like Gudeg, Rujak Cingur, Lontong Cecek, Lontong Kikil, Tahu Campur, etc. We even can make a crackers from cow skin ( Kerupuk Rambak / Jangek ). So maybe you can try another time for eat a cow skin 😁😁

I am almost certain that perkedel actually an Indonesian interpretation of Frikadeller/Frikandel as quite a few Indonesian dishes were influenced by various cultures, in this case European, except Indonesians use potatoes instead of meat because it was/is economically more affordable and easier to get Just like many other 'borrowed/influenced' dishes, Indonesians came up with their own pronunciation of the dish. I did grow up eating (meat) frikadel with tomato/maggi sauce made by my tante...quite likely it was probably the Indonesian-Dutch version of the original frikadel.

the best rendang i've ever eaten was made by my grandmother from Payakumbuah and my father family from Kapau (bukittinggi). If you want to try the best minang food, you have to go to Bukittinggi. there are very kind of minang food. Try it, enjoy it the taste of minang food.

i suggest you to eat padangnese food with common indonesian way, first you have to pour the gulai sauce and a little bit green chili (sambal hijau) to rice and mix it, so choose the dish what you want to eat. enjoy!

when you eat nasi padang you have to mix nasi , bumbu/kuah rendang , kuah curry & rempah/bumbu from fried chicken... even you eat without rendang or chicken.... the rice will be the perfect combination... so that's why lot of indonesian like padang food coz of combination kuah /bumbu on rice /nasi... let's try it

Kikil or cow skin is very popular in Indonesia, and that's not pure fat, but it contain collagen too. People love the chewy texture of kikil. You should try cow skin crackers, and pour gulai soup or curry soup on top of the crackers, that's yummy.

I don't know much about you and who you are, but your opening video seems like some travelling destination in my district, we call it Puncak Pato located in Tanah Datar. You know what Tanah Datar, where the Minang tribe come from, we have 3 luak(some kind of original Minang) Tanah Datar(Batusangkar) is the old one, Agam(represented by Bukittinggi) and 50 Koto(Payakumbuh). Btw i have foreigner friends just like you, she's from Holland and she taught us English here. if I'm not mistaken, she is national athlete(longboard) in her country. we had great time here, miss that day. We always welcoming for tourists here and glad to see new faces all over the world with full of color, and really enjoy knowing each other.

You should try to mix it, in indonesia we have 3 major food every single day, rice+fish/meat+vegetables.we dont eat just only rice+vegetables, but sometimes its only rice+fish/meat.you should try rice+rendang/tuna curry+sayur kapau together

Some studies says several months of collagen supplements can improve skin elasticity, (i.e., wrinkles and roughness) as well as signs of aging. Others have shown that consuming collagen can increase density in bones weakened with age and can improve joint, back and knee pain. Try to think of it from that perspective while eating KIKILs,...the chewy textures are fun to chew (for me). Of course, a some contains fats left over from the cutting process, those you can leave.
