Whenever your dish come with rice in Indonesia, you should eat it together, not separately. That's why when you eat it, either it's too spicy, too salty, or too overpowering, because originally you must eat it with rice. There's nothing called side dish or main dish in Indonesian dish, you must eat it whole together. Even Indonesian people put some rice or lontong (rice cake) when they're eating bakso, you know 🤭

Chicken taste a bit of salty because it supposed to eat along with rice. That's Indonesian style. The mix between chicken and rice will adjust the salty level. The same concept with spicy. Rice usually neutralized everything in some certain level. But of course rice can't handle spicyness level 5. 😅😅😅

LOL, the one told you about richeese was absolutely trying to lead you. I don't really like richeese, it is good, but I won't look for it. It's like, challenge dish, not something you would eat for regular basis. That's why the restaurant is empty despite lunch time. I would say, one of the best fried chicken in Indonesia is Ny. Suharti. It's crunchy one, but not "american" crunchy. We call those "fried chicken", while we call ours "ayam goreng". Both translates to the same, but "fried chicken" denotes that it is american style. I also love ayam ketumbar or ayam kuning. Padang fried chicken is also good.

For us it was fun to try what fast food from the Richeese Factory actually tastes like and of course their famous sauce and drinks, but we agree with the bad it's more of a once-in-a-lifetime experience! In fact, there were so many different types of dishes in Indonesia (including fried chicken) that we went from place to place discovering culinary specialties as we went! We can't wait to return as there is certainly much more to visit!

It means, crossing regional or city borders within Indonesia is like crossing country borders elsewhere. Each region preserves its own culture and laws without central government interference. For example, Aceh follows Sharia law, Yogyakarta is a sultanate, and Papua is tribal. This diversity is reflected in their languages, habits, and cuisines. Different cities have different languages, variations in the same dishes, and distinct eating customs. Therefore, the dish you enjoy in one region may not be the same in another, similar to how Norwegians don't cook spaghetti, and Italians don't prepare noodle bowls. All of them might look similar, but they are different. All region has fried chicken, but they are not the same. Even their tea and coffee preference are not the same. So if you find some indonesian cuisine outside Indonesia that you want to try, you need to identify which part of Indonesia does it come from. Landing in wrong region won't get you that dish. There might be similar dish, but not the one you are after.
