I'm no pro, but here is a helpful tip for you! Your 3 point box blade can be tilted left or right by adjusting the left and right attachment points. You need to crown your driveway or it will hold water, turn to puddles and erode horribly. But with a tilted box blade, you can scrape right side low and left side high to put a crown in the middle of the trail and a ditch on both sides, this prevents erosion and will increase the life endurance of the driveway, and prevent erosion and washouts. The water will gently roll off the road and into the ditch, rather than running into the road and forming puddles (which turn into pits), or forming rivers (which erode ditches into the middle of your driveway). So run the whole length of your drive with the box left side high, and right side low which will cut a ditch on the right side of the driveway and shove the gravel into the middle, then turn around and come down the other side of the driveway which will cut the ditch on the other side and shove rocks to the middle, do this several times, then compress the whole thing by driving on it for a few weeks or months and you should be good to go. Oh, one more thing - you can take the rakes out of the box too, so when you want to scrape without digging, you won't be plunging teeth down deep. Just remove the cotter pins and pull the teeth out. Put them back in when you need them.

Scott Jenkins Thanks for your tips. The teeth were adjusted in this video at their highest setting and I'm surprised how much ripping it did. Theres actually one spot in our driveway that needs a crown put in. Fortunately, our driveway doesn't see much traffic. I have thought about putting a crown in all of our driveways but it would be a ton of work. Thanks for watching!!!

I think you could do it! The time you already spent would have done a good crown if your blade was tilted. There are videos on youtube about crowning driveways and it is a few hours work, Good luck.

to keep from pulling the scarfiers out just lower the blade with toplink

Tilt your box back where it sits even on level ground !!. Leave the ripper teeth where they are !!. What you want to happen is, The teeth will rip up the gravel, And it should pile up inside the box, And then it should fall out when you hit low spots !!. This will level the driveway as well as take out all the ripper tracks !!. You did good getting a Box Blade !!! They are the most useful Empliment you can own !!. You can also lower the right side (right side while sitting on the tractor) about 1-2 inches and run along the outside edge of the driveway, This will not only drag the gravel back to the center area of the driveway, But it will put a CROWN in it !! This will Prevent water from settling in the driveway !!. It takes a little practice, But it's easy to learn. Have fun.

Good suggestions. If you can find a good deal on a rear blade you can get a lot done with that on your gravel driveways. A land plane works good too.

My old Dodge truck has a battery drain that 2 repair shops and myself could not find. I bought a couple of lockout switches online and mounted one in the driver's side fender well. If I am not going to use it for a day or two I turn the switch off by reaching under the fender. Saves opening the hood. A shorted out diode in an alternator can drain your battery. Put a test light in your main positive circuit. If it goes out when you disconnect the alternator that's the problem.

Like you said it was your first time so ignore all those with negative comments! Only thing I’d add is to go over it a little more than twice cause if it’s as old as you say there is probably a lot more gravel you could bring up to the surface. Then like others have said tilt the blade to make a crown in the road. Otherwise, fantastic job. This is older video so you’re probably a pro at this point!!👍🏻

I have a TO 30, the only way to tell it from 8n is the serial number on the motor & check a chart. So it is the same, just different company, after Ford split. Also made in the 1950's.

To smooth out the drive way just tilt box blade back so it rides on the rear blade

dan 1 that is not a pasture harrow it is a Vibrating Wire Mesh Screen used for sizing material in mines or quarry's and the size of the material depends on the size of the square

@grumpymillenialmower5 жыл бұрын
If you extend that top lip no the box will sit flat. That will cause it to cut less and carry material. This will fill any unlevel spots and won’t leave those tooth marks. Short top link for digging, long top link for smoothing.

Yadda, yadda, yadda! Great video, thanks for sharing. Good ideas for thought and how to use. Just one idea, if you had planed ahead, spray the area, turn around, with weed and grass killer. It will expose more gravel in those areas.

Are You using a battery terminal disconnect device? Leave the cable attached and just turn a knob. Or something else in line with the battery cable to disconnect the power?

You should research on how to use this tool. You could have done so much more to improve your driveway with a few adjustments to your box blade. As Scott Jenkins already pointed out, you can adjust the tilt to put a crown in the driveway as well as make ditches on the side. The other thing that you could do is either remove or level the material by raising the "teeth" (scarifiers) and adjust the tilt front-to-back to either remove or level/smooth a surface. I understand that this was your first time using a tool like this, and I'm not criticizing you for what you did (I have made the same mistakes). I recommend that you search for "Dave Knows How" here on youtube and watch his series on using a box blade. He gives very good information that will probably help you.
