My family and I laughed ourselves sick when we saw it in the theater. The running gag with the dogs did us in😂😂😂

The original nastier cut of the film that test audiences hated - Wanda doesn't love Archie, Otto gets mashed by the steamroller - had the dogs' deaths be much gorier, which apparently caused the laughter to abruptly stop. John Cleese talks about how quite a lot of work went into the film to soften it enough to be palatable.

The whole point was for him to kill the old lady. Although instead of killing the old lady , he killed all the dogs. That's why he felt bad. Until finally at the end he killed the old lady which was a witness 😂

The joke about Otto becoming minister of justice of South Africa was a dig at the apartheid government, which was still in power when this movie was made. It’s basically the same joke they used in Anchorman, where Brick - the immensely stupid guy - was said to have ended up a policy advisor in the George W Bush administration.

A great and witty comedy. All were fantastic in their roles. Watch the unofficial sequel, "Fierce Creatures". Nearly as good. So wished they would all come together again and give us one more ensemble sequel.

My dear late aunt loved this movie, but it took a lot of persuading to get her to watch it. She loved Kevin Kline, British farce comedies, and crime movies. But my dear aunt had a severe stutter. She said she didn't think she could enjoy a movie where a character was mocked and ridiculed for stuttering. But since Ken got his revenge in the end and Otto got his comeuppance, she was able to watch and enjoy it, even though the torture scene did cause her some anxiety.

I thought this was soooooo hilarious back in 89, I was 18. Wow it’s just not……really THAT funny is it? And now all those poor dogs dying I hated it then….now it’s 🙄🤮 And I couldn’t STAND that silly inane clinky plonky music that played every time Cleese & Curtis have a scene.
