LMAO literally just posted that same opening sentence, haha. Yeah I was 18 and I;m pretty sure that every ass in the theater was pretty much clenched - that is between the occasional chorus of jump-screams. Nice to see these oldie greats still scare the pants-pudding outta these youngsters just like it did us - except WE saw everything 20' tall, lol and surrounded by darkness, lol.

My dad went to see this by himself in the theater in 1979 without knowing anything about it because he’s a big sci-fi fan (like Star Trek). It scared the shit out of him and he’s a Marine that served in Vietnam. People now don’t realize that this was like the scariest movie that ever existed at that time period. Great film! Great reaction! I wish you would make more!

The reason they aren't trained to deal with stuff like this is that they're basically just commercial space truckers. Also, special effects were BETTER before they started using cartoony CGI to do everything.

To add to your comment: Not only were they just commercial space truckers. The Company basically forced them to go to the planet to investigate otherwise their pay was forfeit. No investigation meant all the work they did which is possibly a year or more worth of space travel and work was for nothing. It also meant the Company didn't waste manpower or work on such investigations if some craft of theirs just happened to be in the area. In other words loopholes.

Eh. Sometimes. The chest burster 'runs' across the table like a windup toy and the alien looks like a guy in a rubber suit doing jazz hands in the vent. I've seen people praise the 'superiority' of practical effects that look like rubber puppets to me in other movies, too. Yeah, early CGI was painfully obvious, but it's getting better. I can still tell where the seams are, but aside from that they look *much* better than most practical effects.

Effects were good back then in movies that had A BIG BUDGET. Today thanks to CGI even modest and low budget movies can have really good special effects, like the movie Ex Machina proves (it even won the oscar). The issue with CGI today is not it' quality but how it is integrated in the movies. Most bad CGI you complain today is due to very thigh shrot time allocated to make the special effects, ence why they look cartoony. There are movies that have a lot of CGI made recently you have no idea they are even there. Try watch the movie Zodiac and notice the CGI in it. It has about 600 scenes with CGI, try notice where they are.

@@CapedInformer The sequel, Aliens, is fun, but not in the same league as this one. Just my take on it.

“Are they paying you enough to do this?” They don’t get paid at all if they don’t. They’re unprofessional and don’t have the proper equipment and training because this isn’t what they came to do. They’re space truckers, with an old ship, with the basic necessities. They’re not an exploration or research team. And even if they were, they couldn’t have anticipated acid blood. It wouldn’t have been a good idea to kill the chestburster right then for the same reason they couldn’t kill the facehugger, the acid blood. Would’ve eaten through the floors. Their official mission was never to investigate the planet, it was to tow a supply of ore. The company knew there was something on the planet and secretly selected their ship to “discover” the signal on their way back to earth and investiagtezm. And Ash was a plant to make sure they got something. That was its tail that it was using when killing Lambert.

I've seen this movie dozens of times, but I've never given much thought to the selflessness of the crew. You're right! Also, Dallas goes into the vents because, as the captain in charge, he feels responsible for letting the Alien onto the ship (deservedly so!) and refuses to put that burden onto Ripley by rejecting her offer to volunteer. Check out the next two sequels - they're great! Well, one is great, one not-so-much, but still worth reacting to IMHO. If you do react to them, please watch the special edition of Aliens and the assembly cut of Alien3.

"Parker was not the first to die." This whole movie's social commentary! Parker and Ripley constantly say good advice, but 'cause he's African and she's female, they get blown off. Dallas is in charge 'cause he'll do whatever the company says. Five minutes with the computer and Ripley found what he missed. Folks in the late '70s knew the fix was in. Ship's top level is sterile, middle is so short you can't walk upright, and bottom's dark and grimy. Wonder what that metaphor's about. Real horror's that, forty years later, the only things that seem weird and dated are the computer graphics and the smoking. Naturally a monster that personifies unleashed male lust, unfettered rapacity and mechanical dominion's still scary.

Glad you liked it. Not meaning to sound like some English teacher, but if you ever watch ALIEN again, look for three themes. First, humanity's dysfunctional relationship with machines. People of the '70s were really scared about automation taking over. Look at The Terminator. The crew inhabits a world of machinery, the skeletal pilot is completely consumed by machines. The Xeno looks like living machinery. Second, what we now call the patriarchy. Ripley, Parker, and Lambert live in a male-dominated world. Dallas doesn't even bother acknowledging their good advice, or Parker's harassment (though Parker redeems himself defending Lambert.) Inevitably male domination means sexual violence. How does the Alien kill? Violation, penetration, and rape. This film drips with violent sexual imagery. The prop "skin" Brett found was made outta condoms, and the crew slathered the Alien in KY Jelly -- subtle! Last, unfettered greed. The Company (Weyland Yutani, 70's folks were scared of Japan) has no fear of legal consequences. The ship's a cheap rust bucket. They don't bother with a lifeboat that'll hold even half the crew. Ash is right out of a film called Metropolis where a robot woman is sent to infiltrate the workers. What defines the Alien? Rapacity, unlimited greed, "unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality." Still scary forty years later for good reasons. I strongly advise against any more Alien movies, but the computer game Alien: Isolation is first rate.

I don’t know how many different people I have seen watches for the first time, because I have seen this when I was a child when it first came out. Which makes me in my early 40s. But the truth is, I always I also saw the sequel that my grandfather let me to watch when I was no more than six years old. Because for some weird reason I loved this franchise and the fact that my grandfather allowed me to watch it, made me more brazen and so not scared of what happens to bullies versus dealing with actual aliens from a fictional story. I have to thank him for giving me a stronger skin and bigger balls to deal with reality on the earth versus those who have to give up if a single Rose panel from a flower falls on their shoe and they cry about it. So when I see someone like you watch for the first time, it reminds me of how I first watch something, gave long thought into it, and the only thing that I got out of the entire series which was alien and aliens too, was the fact that it made my skin stronger. And this is also because the fact that the protagonist was a woman who was not perfect, who was also vulnerable but able to stand up against something that is way stronger than the most average man out there. It has so much to do with the fact that this franchise which in the first two movies first completely perfect they should’ve ran that same kind of idea no matter what. And I think they failed on the third movie but kind of tried to redeem themselves on the fourth movie which I didn’t really like too much but still love the fact that Sigourney Weaver was in it. But all I have to say is Sigourney Weaver is one of the best heroines in any story I’ve ever seen. Because she has actually dealt with the negatively, the corruption in the industry in the movie, and also have to take everything upon herself to go reach after the fact that she had to stop this creature from ever being close to any administration out there that’s trying to make money off of it as a biological weapon. To me, Sigourney Weaver, is one of the best actresses and heroes of any science-fiction film I’ve seen in my entire lifetime. To me, Sigourney Weaver, gives you true grit, with also vulnerability, that makes her stand out than anyone in the film industry. Because Captain Marvel had no kind of character arc, she was just blessed with the special powers, and no one could hurt her whatsoever. Which is actually why Captain Marvel is a failure in my own opinion. Because if you make a great movie, you have to give any person out there regardless if they’re female or male, vulnerability so that they can grow into that kind of respect that makes them better than they used to be. To all the sudden give anyone super powers out of the blue, makes them unrealistic in the world world, and makes them a part of Hollywood that in reality, it’s the American people who judge whether or not they are a good character or not. And it doesn’t matter if you lie on Twitter, lie on Facebook, and inject your own ideology upon people to say that it’s made for kids and adults under the age of 30, because no one else is old enough to understand the ideology, is a complete backlash and a complete dishonest distraction against great actresses like Sigourney Weaver. Because at this point, Captain Marvel, Bree Larson, Has nothing compared to what Sigourney Weaver did back in the 80s in the 90s because she proved herself to be stronger than most men out there who were undermined as a bunch of losers. And the only thing I could enjoy at this point, is that if we were back in the mid 80s, and Sigourney Weaver tagged up with Arnold Schwarzenegger to fight more and more aliens than before, would not only grease my gears, but play out as some kind of most amazing thing I would ever see. The problem we have right now with Hollywood, is the fact that they don’t know how to write real movies that can touch you and relate to every day people, because they want to remove all the weakness in all the lies that they’re trying to push on people so that anyone regardless of what they do, makes the wrong character worthless even though that the fact is, the best thing you can do to make a great character is to show their flaws to begin with. Without those flaws the character is flat, uncountable, ridiculous, and so over power that no one will want to watch a second or third movie about them. And in example with that all I can say is the last sequels of Star Wars, having a complete Mary Jane, that has no issues, no kind of definitive hurt or even dealing with the negativity when it comes to dealing with certain powers, makes her character so worthless is exactly why I will never buy episode 7 8 and 9.

Another top-notch reaction vid, sir! With some spot-in analysis too; especially about the contrast between the alien's survival instinct and the humans' instinct to protect each other. A couple of fun tidbits: Ridley Scott did indeed intend for the cat to be a little red-herring misdirection at the end, so the audience was wondering about whether it has been impregnated, rather than wondering if the alien was on-board the shuttle. I never latched onto that, but I've since seen several reaction vids that have picked up on it. onto And when you said that tensions were high, you're absolutely right! Scott encouraged Yaphet Kotto to annoy Sigourney Weaver throughout the filming of that scene, so when she yells at him it's a genuine moment!

The reaction of the actors themselves was genuine and it only took one take. Great scene and great tension building up throughout the movie. I have just seen your reaction to Aliens which you say was even better than the first one. @@CapedInformer They do that a lot in horror films, a year later Sean S. Cunningham did the same thing to Adrienne King in Friday The 13th. They did not tell her that she was going to see that fake dead body behind that cabin door and that scream we hear from her was real. In 1975 Susan Backlinie was in real pain and almost drowned when she was shooting Jaws. She had this harness on under the water that had three men pulling her from side to side and down and at times they would pull her at the same time, that would knock the wind out of her right before they pulled her under, they almost ripped the poor girl in half at times and her cries for help that you hear in the film are real because she was in real pain and thought that she was going to drowned. Of curse that one was an accident, no one on set was trying to harm her in anyway and every one just thought that she was a really good at acting. But they still used the footage because they know it would terrify the audience. There are many other horror films that scared the living daylights out of there actors to get a real reaction out of them. So if you ever get into acting and do a horror film there is a good chance that they will scare you.

Although the crew is initially portrayed as grouchy and selfish, nearly all the deaths occur out of love. Kane is brought back to the ship to save him, Ripley risks herself to save Jones, Dallas goes into the vents to protect his crew, Parker leaves his hiding spot in order to try to save Lambert.

And just as an info....they were reacting, as is standard with ships...if someone sends out an SOS, you HAVE to respond. It is not an option. Came from way back, the Titanic. We later found out, the company knew about the signal. but the crew didnt know that at the time. They only thought they knew it was an SOS.

I agree about the masterful use of sound, interspersed with dead quiet moments and the music. It all just builds the tension so well. Quiet dread! On a side note, it still amazes me that this a 42 year old movie. Damn, it still holds up. I’ll take the whole look of this film over the CGI stuff these days. Alien just has that gritty, organic feel to it. Freaking masterpiece. 😎👍

lol I saw this movie when I was 14. At that time no one had ever seen anything like it before. Nowadays I guess everyone who sees it it thinks, Of course that hand thing is going to lay eggs in him! Run away! The ideas of this film have become standard horror fair. But when this movie came out no one thought that. No one saw it coming when the monster burst forth. It was totally novel and unexpected. Scared the hell out of me at 14.

LMAO 'This movie was not good for my blood pressure.' 😆 Haha imagine seeing this like I first did - at 18 in a dark, surround-sound theater with like 200 other terror-clenched people, lol. Several times the entire place screamed, lol. I treasure that I got to see all these great 70's and 80's classics when they hit the theaters. Glad it still has the scare-power it had for me on its opening night in our little, town theater. What a top-shelf film. Great react and review. Keep up the great work, man. -Oh and hey - if you want to do an AMAZING and obscure one for us, consider *Bone Tomahawk* from 2015 with Kurt Russell and Patric Wilson - you will NEVER forget this amazingly tense and horrific film. Never. The acting, camerawork, stunts, pace -everything - is stellar. But.. be prepared for some gruesome scenes.. stuff you can't unsee, lol.

Dallas & Parker were my favorite characters, but yes- What was Parker thinking!? Argh! I was so frustrated first time I saw it. You wondered why they weren't trained or prepared? Well no, they were the equivalent of 'Truck Drivers' in space. No wonder they were outclassed at every point. Also, if you want some of that terror all for your very own, pick up a copy of 'Alien: Isolation'. Beautiful & terrifying game.

don't know if it was mentioned already but the script was written with only the crew's last names so that casting would be open for anyone to play any character. the casting of Sigourney as Ripley was awesome, she is truly a badass heroine. Part 3 of 4 I am not a writer, I am not a Director, I’m a nobody. But still, my passion has been writing my own stories in which I will never tell that anyone as long as Hollywood continues to pander to those who are too sensitive when it comes to dealing with the truth or dealing with the unknown in the science-fiction community. I know that the third movie of alien, could’ve been way better to begin with. There are a few things that could’ve changed and it would’ve been fine. But since they totally disregarded everything, because they didn’t wanna pay certain actors to BNN, or even do it to a point where they think that it was a good direction to do so, they failed to protect those that the American people want more than what the Director cared about, the story writer care about and also those in the department could care less about what was happening next. All they care about is making sure that a story was made in next and was played out for those to watch. In between alien and the SQL aliens, it took seven years to make the sequel. And that’s why the sequel is so amazing! And then after that it’s a no much longer before the third movie was made which was a total dumpster fire at a certain point. I can’t say that the special effects are bad, but all I have to say is the storyline sucked buttholes. Just like, terminator three sucks certain butt holes, and the only thing up there that made Terminator original after that third movie, rise of the machines, would’ve been terminator for salvation. That movie had more original value than any other movie that came before it because it was completely different. And if they stuck to their guns and made an actual terminator movie about the future war conflict with laser beams and robots killing each other with soldiers of fortune, would have been a box office smash to begin with. But instead they keep on trying to Tanger 2007 it comes to certain Hollywood actors because they believe if those actors are not in the movie, the movies dead in the water.. When the truth is, if you have a good storyline, a good synopsis that actually makes you feel for the characters, and also has to deal with humanity in a certain way when it comes to these terminators, you can make any movie be great. But you have to understand that you need action, great story and dialogue and without it you’ll end up drowning the entire series. And no matter what you do, what happens in the long run is, we have multiple of worthless movies we should be watching. They all need to be erase from existence, and need to be started over as a real franchise from Terminator one to two, an alien to aliens two, that would bring about a better serious than what has happened so far. I could do it on my own, make a storyline absolutely for free, and as long as they made that storyline, I’ll be more than happy to watch it in the theaters and not ask for any royalties money. Just as long as they actually made the movie to exactly how I wrote it, would make more money than just the stupid avatar project that obviously will fail when the sequel comes out. Because avatar by James Cameron is no different than Ferngully the animated movie from Disney. The only difference is the fact that they’re changing the ideology of these creatures in the forest living on a different planet and that’s almost about it. So when it comes to Pandora, Avatar, it has already been made into a cartoon from the very beginning. The only difference is, they made it into a live action film and change certain aspects of the film and everyone is all the sudden supposed to believe this is an original ideology? It’s not, because the original person who made this was using the Ferngully as a way, an actual storyboard to make his new movie into something greater that is actually not the truth. And I will not care if the sequel of avatar comes out. I’m more than happy to watch it on video for free at this point. Not because I hate avatar, it’s just the fact that between Covid and everything else, no snow point and spending money at the theaters when you could just save it a year later and just not listen to social media who tell you the plot line. Because I’ve done that for well over four years and still have watched things at home and I’ve been surprised at watching it on a very small television screen. The fact is, Hollywood and Cova 19, have completely converged together to spread their nonsense, but on top of it, have made it to a point where the majority of people out there in America would rather just grab a box of popcorn at their local store, microwave it at home, and watch whatever movie that’s available to them then being padd or two by the left. Because the people on the left have created their own nightmare. There are more people out there who believe in their own freedom then it is to spend hundreds of dollars to go to the theater, when they can share that same money to their entire family at home and have a good time without having to deal with other people in the theater crying, laughing, sneezing and spreading diseases and other bullshit, everyone else just doesn’t care anymore. The major main stream media every day is losing their own grip against the American people.
