The blonde dude in Marty's band -- he's the guy who taught Fox how to play guitar for this film. The "too darn loud" guy is Huey Lewis -- he's the man who wrote the song "Power Of Love"... which was the song Marty was playing. The writers didn't know how to pronounce "gigawatts," so they went to a seminar, and the German physicist pronounced it "jigawatts," so they assumed THAT was the proper way to say it.

I've been watching this movie for 35 years and never really noticed what you did on the first viewing: that Doc is more mellow in the "new" 1985. It makes sense because he knew for the last 30 years that his invention would work, so he was likely far less stressed than the original 1985 version of himself.

You're absolutely right about this movie aging well and being timeless. I was 7 in 1984 and loved this movie. I love it as an adult. And, when I was teaching some years ago, my students loved it as well. Classics never die.

I think I was nine, lived in a country town but when we'd visit our grandparents in Sydney I remember movies like these being those I'd goto with my big brother on our own. It's a category of its own thats comedy but also entertaining action. I loved all three but my brother was the more hardcore fan. He had "power of love" by Huey Lewis playing at the end of his wedding service (and he actually is a priest) haha :P. I was more of a Bill & Ted fan. If I ever get married the outro song from the service with be Two Heads by Powertool :)

At the start of the film, Doc and Marty meet at the Twin Pines Mall. When Marty arrives in 1955, he runs over one of two pine trees in Old Man Peabody's farm. When Marty gets back to 1985, the mall is now called the Lone Pine Mall.

Also, when Doc is up on the ledge, he slips and kicks out a piece of the marble. Other than a broken clock, the clock tower was normal at the beginning of the movie in the original 1985, and when Marty comes back to the "new" 1985, the ledge still is broken - they never fixed it.

I was 15 when I saw this in the theatre (like... Movie Night with my parents LOL). You are so on point that it is a feel good film and "timeless" since the majority takes place in 1955 and the bits set in the 80s are not too distracting (it's actually nostalgic for an old timer like myself LOL----- Which is ironic because the 1950s stuff was probably nostalgic for *my* parents!). One of my favourite 80s films. So- Doc is on the clocktower, pulls too hard on the electrical cord and it comes out of the plug down on the street. The lightning is about to strike, and the DeLorean is screaming up the street. My Father leaned over to me and said "I don't know HOW they're going to get out of this one!!" I get goosebumps every time I watch that scene as it reminds me of what my Dad said that night. So the coolest Easter Egg of this film is that you can "see" the second Marty arriving when Doc gets shot the *1st time* in the parking lot. It's a little hard to describe- but when Doc tosses his pistol away- just to his right and around the height of his butt is a rectangular white sign in the background. As the pistol flies through the air you can see a "shadow" run past this sign. This moment coincides precisely when Marty returns to the Mall on foot at the end of the film to witness Doc being shot for the second time, and himself driving away- it was Marty's shadow on that sign the first time around!

The joke you did not get: "Make like a tree and, get out of here" is to show how dumb Biff is. The actual saying is "Make like a tree, and leave". English being my second language and me not being aware of many phrases of the sort left me clueless to its meaning for many years. Something that many younger viewers familiar with the trilogy do not realize is that this movie actually ended with a "The End" but when it finally got released on VHS they had changed it to "To be continued..." which got a lot of people excited about the sequels.

Fun fact: television reruns did not exist until the show I Love Lucy. Lucille Ball needed to take time off from her show because she was having her first child, and so they decided to run previous episodes as “flashbacks” making television producers suddenly realize that they could repackage old episodes of shows. When you watch part 2. Make sure you stop watching as soon as it finishes. Because straight after it finishes but before the end credits. It shows a trailer for part 3 that is very spoiler filled.

The guy that says "your just to darn loud" during his guitar audition was Huey Lewis and the News.. That's the band singing The Power of Love in the movie....

This entire trilogy is such a classic. Shame that Michael J Fox ended up struggling with Parkinson's, feel bad for him and will always wonder what he could've accomplished in the time after his diagnosis. Man, this entire trilogy had so much going for it. Even if the ending was a joke and they never planned to make a second movie I'm glad they made two more films.

"Make like a tree, and get out of here..." Biff constantly uses the expressions wrong. By the second film, his older self corrects him by saying "Make like a tree, and leave!" (which sounds like leaf)

Back in the mid-1980s, movie theaters were upgrading their sound systems from stereo to surround sound and Back to the Future was one of the first movies to truly capitalize on it - at the point when the Delorean first travels through time, the sound 'shifts' from the front to the rear. (If you have a good home theater with 5.1 or better, the DVD & BluRay editions also do this.) In 1985, however, movie-goers weren't accustomed to this and I had fun sitting in the very back row and watching all the heads turn to follow the sound and look behind them. Also, Jerry Lewis was a famous film comedian of the 1950s and 1960s - Jim Carrey is very much his modern counterpart. Jane Wyman was the sex bomb actress of the era who, at the time, was married to Reagan. Jack Benny was another comedian of the era (more for TV than film) and was a notorious miser - hence, the "Secretary of the Treasury" quip. Biff's an idiot. The line is supposed to be "make like a tree and leave" (because trees have leaves). In the sequel, he tops it with "funny as a screen door on a battleship" instead of "submarine".

@ 23:12 Not invent rock n roll because it was around a few years before, but to give the REAL Chuck Berry the song he would later write and make into the big hit song in the late 50s he's most remembered for "Johnny B. Goode". Then Marty, born many years later would hear the song Chuck Berry wrote and played, learn to play it himself knowing Chuck Berry wrote it and go back in time to give it to Chuck again, and...and... It's like the old "Chicken and the egg" thing. Which came first?! 😁 That's one of those time-paradoxes that convince many pros that time traveling into the past is impossible. But into the future, definitely. The movies are fun though! Keep 'em coming! Don't forget "Interstellar" someday for more interesting time travel. ✌️😎

This is another classic and you are right. It has such replay value. Sadly, I didn't get the chance to watch it in the theater when it was released but a neighborhood friend did. When it was released for video rental I talked my dad into renting it and it instantly became a family favorite. The sequels aren't as good, but well worth watching. So glad you got a chance to see this. Excellent film.

27:00 The McFlys are not rich. They saved and planned for the future and never gave up on anything. George McFly has spent the last 30 years writing his first novel because he had to keep his mind to it and he had to work out all the little details so it would be perfect. He also spent a lot of time with his kids and teaching them about life and being with them which means he could only write when he had tme for it but he always made time for his family. Also, Biff's willingness to help George over the years probably made life easier than if he resolved to make his life trash as in the previous iteration. This ending was executive produced by Crispin Glover who explained to the production team that if the McFlys were already rich they wouldn't live here and Marty might never get home; also their original idea of succes was something Glover couldn't pretend to be proud of.

Well if you compare Biff's clothes in the orginal timeline and George's clothes in the altered timeline you could assume that they have a similar wealth/income level. Which might bring you to the conclusion that George is simply having Biff's job or in other words that he is getting paid for the job that he was already doing in the original timeline as Biff was foisting off/"delegating" his work. But they might become rich now if George's novel was selling well...
