The reason why everyone matched with their clothing was for a couple of reasons, those clothes were affordable for the low income and it also served as a uniform of sorts, to let the people know that you were a Chicano from a Barrio and you weren’t one to be taken lightly, because Chicano’s were treated with extreme prejudice just like the riot scene with the navy, if your a Chicano your not really accepted amongst the true mexicans, and yet your weren’t really accepted by the caucasian Americans either, during these times Chicanos were on their own, so they organized and is the reason and origin of Chicano gang culture in California.

My respects for you reviewing such a graphic and violent movie like American Me. Definitely does not sugar coat anything about the gang/ criminal lifestyle . As Mexican American growing up I remember watching this because my folks wanted to scare me straight from running with a bad crowd at school, after watching this film I did not want to do anything with gangs agains. Join the military instead best gang ever 😄🇺🇸

Hi to the ladies @Habitual Cinema, Great movie reactions. Love the content. Want to share some info. Olmos actually had a murder hit out on him because of this movie. Several cast and production members were killed because of this movie. There was a wrongful depiction of the leader of the mexican mafia. He was not raped in juvenile hall like the movie depicted. There was also several other embellishments as well as some of the secrets within the organization and how the operate exposed. This movie made the mexican mafia look like booty bandits because of the gang rape scene. In the California prison system, rapists and child molesters are seen as the worst of inmates and are dealt with. Rapists are not allowed within major prison gangs, like the mexican mafia.

"Zoot suiters" or "Pachucos" were Mexican-Americans who wore baggy suits. Americans resented them during World War 2 because there was rationing of cloth, and the zoot suiters' clothing was seen as excessive and the Mexican-Americans as not patriotic.

It was a trip how the girl on the left mentioned that she thinks the ones making the Nuestra Familia gang/ organization, were norteños the complete opposite of these ones. (La Eme) wonder how she knew that, and who she has hung out with before.🤔 Also the girl on the right, I was so attacked to her voice. It’s just soothing to hear. I Dnt know what it is. But it was nice hearing her talk whenever she did. 😊

If you find yourself going down the rabbit hole of the NF vs EME. It happened in the late 60s and early seventies where it bled onto the streets even were affected me in the 90s and I was caught up in it as well in the streets. The movie depicted Edward James olmos is character taken out by his own crew but that's not how it happened it was actually the NF that took him out. The NF started off as Southern but later is now known to be dominant Northern Mexicans from California. I was caught up in a street wars in the 90s from Northern California that got me shot and almost died at 16 yet i was on my way to YOUTH AUTHORITY INJURED AND SHOT BUT I BEAT MY CASE. I am here alive TODAY at 43 HAPPIER THAN EVER. MY goal is to be a leader for the youth out here. Oh BTW I'm 99% sure Edward James Olmos had to pay the EME to stay alive for that rape scene he created that never happened. It was a sign of disrespect to the EME. There were many murders committed because of this movie. You ladies are pretty cool and this was a cool video to watch your perspective of what my culture is like. Most people judge and dismiss folks who are misunderstood. Goodnight. :)

Many people who made this movie were killed by the Mexican Mafia making this movie' as the story was innovated La Eme never ever raped or got raped in Prison they took this as an offence and disrespect and put a green light on all the cast crew' a lot of people was murdered.
@libertatemadvocatus1797
@libertatemadvocatus1797 4 ай бұрын
Something like a dozen people were murdered over this movie. Mostly former and current gang members. They were killed for a few reasons. Mostly regarding Santana (who was based on Cheyenne Cadena) getting raped in juvvie as well him being murdered by the Mexican Mafia when he was actually killed by the rival Nuestra Familia. Considering the then head of the Mexican Mafia was Joe Morgan (who JD was based on) was portrayed as ordering the killing; that also angered the Mexican Mafia. Also the rape of the mob boss' son is also fictional and the Mexican Mafia had good relations with the California Mafia Families and worked closely with them on the streets. These three things (especially the first two) also got Olmos killed. Although the movie is true over a lot of things that take place in prison; there's a lot of inaccuracies in relation to the Mexican Mafia. In real life JD (Joe Morgan), Santana (Cheyenne Cadena), and Mundo (Mundo Mendoza) joined the Mexican Mafia nearly a decade after it was formed. And even though he dropped out in the late 70s; Mundo wasn't too happy about his portrayal either. Particularly portraying him as murdering Santana. Mundo is still alive and is actually now a KZbinr who does vidoes on the history of the Mexican Mafia and Aryan Brotherhood.
