I always bawl my eyes out when "Once Upon A December" comes and Anastasia just imagines her whole family being with her again, and her dad kissing her on the forehead, it's just too painful. One of the most beautiful movies ever, so underrated too.

Also a detail that not everyone catches is that the three girls that go to her when her gown transforms are her sisters, Olga, Tatiana, and Maria.

Anastasia was a real person. Sadly, she died during the revolution with her family, when she was 18. Women did claim to be her when her and her brother's bones were missing. But her bones later were found. The real story is much darker and tragic.

Rasputin wasn’t evil either. He was a close personal friend to Nicholas II and Alexandra. But he was a bit of weirdo (as was Nicholas) and the Czar was very unpopular. Many of the Russian nobles hated Rasputin, so they lured him to a dinner where he was poisoned, shot, stabbed, clubbed, castrated and then they rolled him up in a carpet and threw him into a frozen river where he drowned. Nicholas wasn’t a very good king and later he was deposed, then when the civil war in Russia happened after WWI, they had the royal family taken to the basement where they said they were going to have their pictures taken. They then murdered the whole family and later buried their bodies in the woods after burning them with acid.

@@LexisThoughts You should do a reaction to Oversimplified’s videos on the Russian Revolution. The real history is much more interesting.
@leadertaeyeon3013 жыл бұрын
This movie is inspired by the rumor which started after the Russian Revolution in 1917. The Czars of Russia, The Romanov family were massacred (in Yekaterinburg) after the Czar abdicated that year and rumors started to spread of Anastasia and her younger brother Alexei about they scaping and being alive (which later bringed a lot of girls to say they were Anastasia) then in the 90s when the bodys of the Russian family were found they discovered that it was not Anastasia but her sister Maria and Alexei's bodies that were separated from the others but everyone died in 1917 that night. It was a tragedy. (The movie is inspired by those girls who tried to make the Empress (the Czars Mother who was still alive) believe Anastasia was alive and it was them.

Whether it's in the movie, on Broadway, the soundtrack, or just a fanimation, I start bawling in Once Upon A December when Anya is in the ballroom. I know a lot of people say that scene was just a dream, but to me, it really did happen. The people coming out of the paintings, including her family, were the ghosts of those who once danced in that ballroom. Her sisters really showed her how to dance and her father really did appear to dance with her. It was almost like their way of finally being able to say good bye to her, all the while she doesn't recognize any of them😭 But I remember not watching this movie for a long time because it scared the heck out of me as a little kid! My kindergarten class put it on once in another classroom, but I was too afraid and just hung out in the little reading corner. I think I finally worked up the courage to watch it Freshmen year of college. I now love it and have even written a fanfic of the movie told from Anastasia's/Anya's POV

This movie , out to this day is the one animated film that generally gives me the chills a lot of the times. It just creates a very strong atmosphere. I don't think it needs one , but I'd love a *good* live action remake of it, unfortunately I don't think Disney can do it justice now that it owns it.

I have to tell you as a history nerd… They did pretty much conclusively find Anastasia. They found bones not far from where the other Romanovs were stashed. The DNA matched the line. One skeleton was probably her brother and the other was probably her. Sadly none survived.

Anastasia is one of my top favorite animated films ever. It’s so beautifully made and the characters look gorgeous and fun, the color palette is so bright and detailed, the songs are completely original and broadway level songs, Anastasia herself is such a strong and wondrous character who cares so deeply about family and other people and love, and will not hesitate to fight for herself in any situation and doesn’t need anyone to do things for her. Demitri happens to be the one to recognize her royalty, but still believes he’s not good enough for her til the very end when he fends off Rasputin to save her. That’s when Anastasia let’s herself love him.

As someone who's obsessed about the Romanovs (since I was 11), even watching the cartoon/ fantasy version of their fate still feels sad. I think if any of their close relatives are still alive to see this, they would've wanted this ending instead. About 8 months after this movie was released, she and her family were finally laid to rest.

I love this movie from my childhood I always did like Anastasia and Dimitri pairing lol they looked cute together and my absolute favorite song from this movie is Once upon a December when I was a kid I had my cousin sing this song to me everytime I spent the night at my grandparents when my cousin was visiting lol 😆 and Pooka is just an adorable dog, I actually remember that I use to have toys of the Anastasia movie including a book of memories that came with the toys it was really cool and another reason y I love this movie is cause it made me feel connected to the Russian side of my mom's side of the family cause I'm part Russian and I had learned that Anastasia was a real Princess/Duchess of Russia cause her father was the Czar of Russia and that this movie is the opposite of what really happened to the Romanov family they all actually died in the revolution against the royal family hence y there is now a Government in charge of the country and Rasputin the bad guy in the movie was actually a real person

this movie brushes over some really serious topics. I get its a kids film. not sure how you turn the rise of communism into a kids film but here we are. What is weird is that they put so much blame on Rasputin when he was a small part of all this. Rasputin wasn't a good man but people believed he held too much power over the empress, the revolution came after his death. Which I like the fact he ends up in the river as that is how they found his body. The Romanovs deaths were far more gruesome, The children hid their jewelry inside their clothes in case of rescue and these acted as bullet proof amour leading their their deaths being extremely painful. The oldest child was 22 and the youngest was just 13.
