A little explanation on why they didnt go back for Anastasia as a kid. They were actually running away from an anti-monarchy revolution (That is based in the real history, without the magic part obviously) So, the grandma, as queen (not exactly the title but kinda) is being force to stay safe at the train, even when she tries to jump down for anastasia (If you rewatch it, you can see it). This is part of a protocol used to save important people in this kind of situations (it works like that with presidents, royalty etc) and its based on saving the head of the institution so it can be preserved. In this cases, the institution its seen as more important than the individuals. The kid, falling and hitting the ground with all people running in terror, is supposedly dead and they wont risk the queen just to try save her. They then take the queen to paris as an exiled and from there she keeps putting money in people to find anastasia for 10 years. People suspect she is dead but the grandma has hope and keep trying. Now, in real life the story wasnt so happy. The real Romanov family was murder but Anastasia and his little brother's bodies were missing for a while, so people didnt know if they escaped and they were actually alive. That myth of them being alive after the revolution was the inspiration for this movie. It was a well known urban leyend. Actually at that time there were actual people pretending to be Anastasia for the money. Unfortunatelly the bodies were found years later and it was confirmed that they died as their family, at the revolution.

I would argue that the Dowager (Grandma) is not part of the institution as she maried into the family, so she is not a Romanov by blood: hence why she is not concerned by the Romanov curse from Rasputin and has no pretention to the Russian Throne. However I do agree that fervant monarchists would do anything to protect her out of respect for her nobility and her status as mother of the Tsar, even if she is not head of state :)

To be fair to the grandmother, she was already "up there" in age, and you can see everybody on the train holding her back when she was trying to get back to Anastasia. She tried, but the family was the enemy of the entire country because of the Russian Revolution. Anastasia was the youngest of the children and was 8 when that happened, so the grandmother was probably already in her 60s. What could she have done? I don't blame her for saying she won't see anymore girls claiming to be Anastasia, either, at that point. That's ten years of trying with repeatedly getting her hopes up just to have her heart broken again after losing her son, her daughter-in-law, AND the rest of her grandchildren? She's not superhuman. Edited to add please remember this takes place in 1926 and even with money she was still a woman.

I adore you but the grandma slander is killing me LOL It's safe to assume that the grandmama COULD have used her resources to find Anastasia but from what I remember from the movie, the reason they had to flee was because Russia was essentially in chaos from Rasputin's curse and was revolting against the royal family. That's why they stormed their castle. It was hinted that their people also could have turned on them so that might explain her distrust with Dimitri (especially if she's been conned multiple times before). ALSO her being heartbroken at being conned multiples times is enough proof that she's been looking for Anastasia all that time! ANYWAY LOL love your reactions 🤣 The soundtrack as a whole is a one big bop and At The Beginning is a staple wedding song 😂😂
@AnnekeOosterink9 ай бұрын
There weren't really resources to use in Russia, all the friends of the royal family had been killed, or had fled, so there wasn't really anyone left who could do anything. And the borders were very closed off, so getting anyone in or out was a big issue. Someone looking for the princess would be super suspect, and wouldn't get very far.

And would you remember every kitchen boy in your son's palace or even knew how many there were there or even recognize them after 10 years? I think not.

This movie has one of my favorite soundtrack of all time. The movie is loosely based on the rumor that the grand duchess (Russian title for princess) Anastasia was alive after first Russian revolution. So the Romanov family was the ruler family of Russian since the 1600’s. The last tsar (king) of Russia was Anastasia father Nicholas II. Nicholas and his wife Alexandria (granddaughter of Queen Victoria of England) were second cousin and both these factors contributed to their 5th child (and only boy) Alexei to be a hemophiliac (blood clotting disorder). Rasputin comes in, as he was in the confidence of Alexandra because he seemed to be able to heal Alexei and bring him comfort when his hemophilia acted up. Some people think he was able to help Alexis because standard care of the time would be bleeding and hemophiliac is a disease where the blood cannot clot and this would only worsen Alexis‘s condition not help.Rasputin was a religious man with a strange background and even crazier death. Anyways people thought that Rasputin had to much power and influence over the royal family and eventually was killed (after like 5 attempts). Political issues after the First World War lead to a revolution lead by the bolsheviks and they captured the royal family and imprisoned them. One thing lead to another and the whole family was secretly executed. Anyways for what I’ve learned is that the assumption was the the tsar and Czarina and the heir would/were killed because the power they held as political symbols but many people weren’t aware what happen to the duchesses and the political power in Russian were actively hiding the fate of the Romanov’s. Anastasia would have been around 16 when she died and since information about their deaths were shaky some people thought she was alive. Nicholas mother was able to get out of Russia and was in Europe. This lead to people trying to claim to be the missing members of the Romanov family. In the 1991 the bodies of the tsar and czarina and 3 of their daughter were found. The bodies had been shot and stabbed and there were evidence of many failed attempts to destroy the bodies. They were dna tested and proven to be the Romanov. Anyways since the body of one of the Daughters and the son was missing it sparked again the rumor of the surviving duchesses and tsarevich. But the bodies were found in 2007. Sorry for the long post but that’s just a little history of the family.
@AnnekeOosterink9 ай бұрын
Small correction: bloodletting was already on its way out in the late 1800s, and completely discredited by the 1900s. So Alexei would never get treated with bloodletting in the 1910s. Speculation is that Rasputin made him stop taking aspirin, which is basically a blood thinner. Not because he knew aspirin would do that, no one knew that at that point. They didn't even know what hemophelia was at the time.

Im sure they did send word and people to try finding her but looking for a child in an whole other huge country would be next to impossible even if the child didnt smack her head and get traumatized to forget her old life. Edit: Since I have it up I'll just respond to more questions cause why not. I 1000% hear Corpse Bride and Nightmare Before Christmas in her song I think its the chilling atmosphere. And I cant be certain its been awhile since Ive seen full length but I think she didnt know/recognize Dimitri as staff was she hadnt been living there at the palace for a long time she lived in Paris hence the necklace she gave her about being together in Paris.

I love this movie. And the people that were in that dream scene I’m pretty sure that was her little brother & sisters & dad. But when I found out that it’s based off the real story I was like “that’s so sad but the movie is really really good. Just wish that the real life story didn’t have a sad ending but wish it ended with a happy one. Also just realized as I was watching this vid that the dog represents or symbolizes (or whatever the word I’m looking for is) is the dog that used to be her sister Maria’s dog but during their quarantine/lockdown the pup became more of Anastasia pup. If I remember correctly I read that in one of the books about their family and what actually happened. Also the live action is also really really good. Definitely recommend the live action Anastasia:once upon time. Love your videos!

I think I have to answer some of the things she said and asked in this. 1, the Grand Duchess, aka Grandma, didn't live in the palace so the people didn't work for her and it is understandable she doesn't know them 2, grandma couldn't return for Anastasia because she couldn't stop the train and her life would be in danger until she escapes Russia. This was the Russian Revolution. The aristocracy and nobility were captured and killed on sight. 3, The Grand Duchess couldn't send anyone back because it was a time of great peril for those who are on the side of the aristocracy. 4, She might have sent people anyway but where would they look? Finding a random child in the middle of political and social turmoil would be near impossible. 5, Drawing attention to a young princess who the revolutionaries wanted dead? A death sentence

11:23 - I don't think Dimitri was being entirely serious. I _hope_ not, anyway. But at least, he changes his mind by the end. 16:44 - I... _think_ he means something along the lines of, Love can lead to rough times, emotional turbulence, often to heartbreak. Vlad's worried what the kiddos may be in for. 20:18 - Did you not see him putting it together when she mentioned the boy from the palace? As you said: that boy was him; so, he himself, the Empress, and the real Anastasia are the only three people in the world who would actually know how the escape was managed. -- As for not being a fan of the Empress; well, everyone certainly has a right to their own opinion. However, I think you may be underestimating how hard she DID try to find Anastasia, the level of difficulty involved- yes, even as wealthy as she is- and the emotional toll that repeated disappointments were taking on her.

Idk how you expected to the grandma to go back IN A RUSHING TRAIN. Dunno, were she supposed to jump off of it and possibly kill herself in the process, or if not, hurt herself very badly? That would definitely not help the situation, because then they'd have the entire royal family dead, one missing, and the most important person still out there that's capable of ruling, being in a very bad state. Not to mention, it was the time, they were being pursued. Going to paris and getting back, Idk how you'd imagine that to work, because chances are it would take at least few hours, in that time, the girl either will be taken to hospital by passer-by's, wake up on her own and walk away or freeze to death. If there was a price for finding her, meaning, they probably have searched for her.

Loved your reaction! And about the whole “not coming back for her” thing, the movie makes it seem that grandma and Anya fled because of a curse, but they say that the curse actually just provoked the Russian revolution, which got all the romanovs killed and Russia became a communist country. So they weren’t fleeting a curse, but the rebels that took the whole royal family. And after the revolution it was basically impossible to get in or out of the country (that’s why they had false documents in the train), so the grandma couldn’t just send for her. This movie is beautiful and so much fun, even though it’s a very American way of seeing the Russian revolution lol (Stalin wasn’t good to Russia, but the romanovs were also pretty bad, so it’s justified that the people revolted). Even with its problematics it’s still a gem and I will always have a special place in my heart for it

The biggest difference I know of is that Anastasia was not alive the whole time. She died along with her family. But for the longest time people didn't know this, and tried to dress up women to look like her for money, like they're shown doing in here. The main reason they believed she was alive was that when they looked over the bodies, they didn't initially find her. But they have since found her in the grave, thus exposing the scammers for what they were.

There was a con artist named Anya that did fool a lot of people (which is probably what inspired the character's nickname), but Anastasia's grandmother was too smart to be fooled. Decades later DNA was done on "Anya" and proved that the Grand Duchess was correct and she wasn't related to the Romanovs.

Technically Anastasia is a Disney Princess now since Disney bought Fox. It’s kinda sad since the animation team behind Anastasia originally worked for Disney but left because Disney wasn’t treating them right, only for Disney to end up buying their studio

You ought to check out The Secret of NIMH (1982). It was done by the same creative team as Anastasia.

One of my fave movies as a kid. Everyone calls it a Disney movie cause everyone thought it was one lol Also movie is based on the real Romanov family tragedy. So it’s the reason they never returned or went back. But the real family actually lived in isolation in hiding until they were found and murdered.

😡 Imma need you to NOT come for the Romanov family and the grandma and cousin. They literally searched for Anastasia for the rest of their lives even after they heard the rest of their family was murdered

My sister got a rescue puppy who looks just like Pooka, but she named him Pukka. Then she got pregnant in her early 30's even though she was told at 17 (with her now husband) that she could never have kids. They both desperately wanted kids but would rather stay together than split up. Same year I got sober, she got Pukka, AND SHE GOT PREGNANT!!!! Healthy gorgeous lil boy. My grandmother keeps saying I'm going to steal him 😂 It's tempting! Pukka is such an annoying ankle biter, but he I'd sooooooo careful near the baby. He's smaller than Leo(baby) now, but it was adorable ti see him being calm and gentle with Leo

Fun fact this is semi based on a true story Anastasia was a real princesses Rasputin was a real person who betrayed the Romanov family the theory was that Anastasia escaped but her family was all murdered because they couldn’t find her body they hate did find it so sadly the story isn’t true she didn’t escape and wasn’t a lost princess like everyone hoped

Anastasia and Dimitri are not Enemies to Lovers, They are two people with a common goal who bicker, it is more like Opposites attract than Enemies. Real Enemies to lovers in this movie would be Rasputin falling in love with Anastasia while watching her through his magic. And then woo-ing her away from Dimitri. That would be Enemies to Lovers... Just saying... Also, "He put in the work." No he didn't, he quite literally did the opposite, he sold his soul for a shortcut so he didn't actually have to try to kill them, he could just send magic to do it, and later in the movie when he did try he failed many times. XD Rasputin is a Clown in this movie. Also the constant hoping to root for Rasputin when he is literally murdered 4 children and is trying to murder the main character legit because he hates her dad. What did Anastasia do against him? literally nothing, she was 8 when all of that happened. XD I get it tho, I try to root for the villain for a bit too before I decide my side. (You can ignore this, I just got heated after hearing her say it for the 3rd time.) Dimitri didn't work for the grandmother, he 'worked' for Anastasia's dad/their palace, the grandmother was rarely in Russia, as was said at the beginning of the movie when she was telling her that she was leaving again to Paris, where she spends most of her time, and on top of that, that house is ginormous, what are the chances your going to remember every person who works in it. Including someone who works in the Kitchen, which rich people, especially back in that time NEVER entered, they didn't need to, because they would deliver it to the dining room. I assume he was a cleaning boy in the kitchen, so even less chance to see him. So being mean to the grandma because she didn't know someone who 'worked' for her is just wrong because he legit didn't.

I was 9 years old when this movie came out and my parents took all the kids to see this movie, I fell so in love with Demetri, it was the moment that I realised that I was straight and sexually attracted to men, Demetri literally helped me figure out my sexuality at 9 years old 😂😂, I am now 34 and I am still in love 😂😂😂. I honestly think it's John Cusack's smooth voice that gets me every time, I was also in love with John Cusack in Serendipity, he has such a bed voice.
