Just a bit of fun FYI: The opening in the desert is meant to invoke 2001: A Space Odyssey. Ken's official job, according to Mattel in the 1960s (I think) was literally just Beach (it was like on the box and everything). Weird Barbie does splits because the leg joints become loose if a Barbie is played with too much/roughly. The travel montage was practical effects from the 1920s, not CGI (there's a BTS video on it). The elderly woman sitting on the bench with Barbie who replies "I know it" is Ann Roth, an Oscar-winning costume designer. The montage of mothers and kids (towards the end) comes from the cast and crew, who provided their home movies for these scenes.

This was such a fun movie! My girlfriend and I done the Barbenheimer thing and the atmosphere was amazing for Barbie. Everyone in bright pink, some kid was even driving an RC Barbie convertible with a Barbie and Ken doll around the lobby, a group of elderly ladies all dressed up in matching pink outfits, all the worried boyfriends questioning their life choices 😂😂 it really was a great experience. I went in with low expectations and I enjoyed it more than Oppenheimer 😂😂😂😂

I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting to like the Barbie movie anywhere near how much I did. I went in thinking "Oh this'll be fun and silly and I'll probably forget about it in like, a week." and whoo boy I was wrong. While it's not perfect; no film really is, the amount of heart in it and the "What Was I Made For?" montage totally caught me unawares. I genuinely loved it. The casting was really solid too. Like, I can honestly say I enjoyed everyone's performances. Also, I don't know if anyone else has already confirmed it with you, but the travel montage was indeed a practical effect. The backgrounds were hand painted and there was like a hand cranked track to add the movement. I believe it was something old films use which honestly is so cool and I would love a design book about the making of this film. There's just so many little details that I would love to understand better; including all of the weird Barbies and Co. But yeah. I'm so glad you seemed to enjoy the film. Hope you're doing well!

Fantastic, fun reaction! This has quickly become one of my favourite movies. i think there are two theories about who the woman at the bus stop was. one was that she was the first old woman that barbies ever seen before and she was purely just admiring the features she’s never seen before. the second theory is that the woman was meant be be a girl called Barbra who was the daughter of the creator of barbie as well as the inspiration for the doll and that’s why she said ‘i know it’ because barbie is literally her and her beauty
