This was a fun watch. :) I think it would have been great to see you look up the movie at the end and react to discovering the answers to some of your own questions. It becomes 10/10 when you get the perspective on it. It's not a straight comedy, but rather just as much a social commentary. He does that with his Ali G character just as effectively. If you want to see more with this quality, you need to watch his old UK/HBO show called "The Ali G Show". Each half hour episode was split between his three characters: Ali G, Borat and Bruno. The individual clips are on youtube and they are even better than this movie. If you hit a few of those with Taniac(especially the short Ali G and Borat clips), I think it would be a great reaction. I would avoid the Ali G and Bruno movies. He was already famous by then and they don't hit nearly the same as they did on his show. The Borat sequel though... somehow they pulled that off. It's from 2020 and it's actually fantastic.

The church service was a United Pentecostal Church meeting in Lousiana. They talk in tongues and run around during the service. I came from this church background.

This movie was extremely well received at the time. It's still a classic IMO. One of the college kids in the RV tried to sue him though because it made him look really bad.

If you want to see some more stuff from Sasha, check out the Ali G Show and Bruno. He's the best character actor I've ever seen, how he manages to never even give a hint of breaking while he's doing the most ludicrous stuff I'll never know. Ali G taking a police training course even got my stoic, no-nonsense, fun-is-banned grandma to lose it.

The woman who played Borat's second "wife" (the African-American lady) was not in the sequel (watch that too, it is great!), but Sacha Baron Cohen paid her anyway. I think it was because they shot the sequel during Covid-19 lockdowns and she was not able to attent, but "Borat" still wanted to show her he had not forgotten about her.

Many people seem to think 'you couldn't say that today' because social media has full control over what is morally acceptable and it has large corporate influence, and vice versa. The loudest opinions rule, and people online have a group led mindset.

Regarding your bit at the end about the humor and how it was received, literally nobody was offended by it except the country of Kazakhstan. They just made a sequel a couple years ago. It's pretty good, too.

The rodeo scenes- welcome to 'Merica. Sacha Baron Cohen is incredibly brave. There is a scene at a wrestling match in Bruno where he would have been literally killed by 'Merica.

I grew up in a church like that - mine was Pentecostal church. It's like the neuroscience/nuerosurgical research has shown: it works because they believe it does. They get so worked up - just like tribal people with the medicine man beating drums in a circle. And in regard to the language, linguists have studied the supposed language of Tongues, but there is no sense to the language itself. As someone who has seen a few sessions of people "speaking" in Tongues, it was a bit frightful. Honestly, it looked like lunatics rolling on the ground just making random noises. I hate to say that because the science shows that it's in their head, their is causing it because they're too worked up.

America had the biggest porn industry in the world, but prostitution is illegal. So unless you film it, it's a crime. That's crazy.

Oh man... Tania really missed out on this _masterpiece_ of a movie, didn't she? On a side note, Sacha Baron Cohen truly is an absolute comedic genius of our time and we are blessed to have him.

Can't believe Tania didn't watch this with you. I think she would have loved it. You should watch Van Wilder with her. I think you both would enjoy it. It's a rom com starring Ruan Reynolds. Watch the unrated version, if possible.
